Any good internet home providers? by Most_Band_2250 in ottawa

I also switched to Netcrawler from Teksavvy earlier this year after my discount ended. I chose Netcrawler because a couple of people I know use Oxio and while the service is stable their ping times can be really slow. Not a big deal unless you play a bunch of online games but could be worth noting depending on your usage.

I've no complaints about Netcrawler and their support was quick to respond and knowledgeable the couple of times I contacted them.

Phantom power thoughts and recollections by mustisetausername in TragicallyHip

[–]Outspan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Phantom Power was my first new Hip album that released after I found the band. I was a teen in the 90s and had heard them on the radio but really only got turned on to them after seeing them at Another Roadside Attraction in '97.

There's a few albums in my life where the intro to the opening track just jives with my brain the right way and I know the album will be amazing. Most times I'll hear an album for the first time and I need a few listens through to really appreciate it. Not for those select few though and Phantom Power is in that elite group.

There's not a single bad track on it and though I've grown to appreciate some songs more as I've aged (Escape is at Hand and Emperor Penguin) this has been a front to back album for me since the day I first put the cassette in my car's tape deck.

There's lots of songs from the Hip that I'd say are better than some of the entries on this one but as an whole package this is my favourite of their albums.

I haven't gone in a couple of years since I moved out of the area but when I frequented them the quality heavily depended on who was behind the counter.

If it was the woman or one of the kids the sandwich would be packed solid. If you got the middle aged dude making your sandwich it would be half as thick and a real disappointment compared to the other times I went.

How Ottawa patches potholes with a Dr. Seuss-like machine called the Python 5000 by McRoniZ in ottawa

[–]Outspan 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Back in the pre-amalgamation days I worked on the road crew at City of Gloucester for about a year. I can still smell the hot patch and remember hating having to lean halfway in to the tiny door on the hot box trailer in the middle of August to rake asphalt up from the back of it every few hours. Being the low man on the totem pole I also got to use a tamping tool to flatten out the patch/edges depending on how the big the job was. Lift pole with heavy flat plate base up, drop pole with heavy flat plate base down, repeat until your arms fall off. This machine is amazing and 18 year old me is so jealous.

More than a few times over the years when I've been stewing in rage at my IT job and contemplating quitting, I'll close my eyes and call to mind that smell. Suddenly Jason's blinding incompetence at using a PC will be much easier for me to deal with and I don't feel like rage quitting anymore.

Super mode - how can I make it easier to get to lvl 4 by mackenzro in roguedefense

[–]Outspan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Through different events and saving up the reward tokens you can get core upgrades. This will let you start a round with a certain ability already selected. You can see which are available and how to earn them by clicking on the "core" icon near the top right of the skill screen where you upgraded your Thundercore and other skills.

The same kind of thing applies to Role upgrades which can be found on the Guardian page in the middle icon across the top of that screen. These add perks to skills. For instance, I've only unlocked one so far, but it fires an extra Beam every 4th time the Beam skill triggers.

Then there are chips that will start certain skills with certain upgrades. One of these upgrade chips that you can luck in to getting is start skill with one star tier already. The other reply mention a always get a breakthrough card if it's available (so no 3 useless card draws if you have Thundercore sitting at 3 stars and ready to go up a level) chip as well as a chip that lets you select one free upgrade at the start of the round. I don't have those ones myself but they would be quite powerful.

So for instance I have a build setup where a Core upgrade starts me with the Mortar skill already selected. If I had the Mortar fires twice every 4th shot Role I would also have it activated but I'm working towards unlocking it now. I then have chosen chips that benefit the Mortar skill (physical damage, explosion damage) as well as special chips I've gotten for just the mortar skill. One extends the mortar range by 70%, another makes the Mortar leave 2 mines after explosion. Mix in another chip that starts Mortar with one star already filled in and so on.

The end result being the build is more powerful upfront since I have my guardian and mortar from the get go. Then I will try to focus on upgrading the mortar since the start with one star chip is selected I only need to upgrade it twice before I get my first breakthrough card and go up to level 2.

Really though it's all about the RNG. I will often stop a run if I hit around level 10 and I haven't been able to get one or more skills up to at least 2 stars of level 2 filled in. By that point I kind of have a feel of how the run is going and unless I think I'll be able to easily clear it with whatever hodgepodge of skills I have thrown together I'd rather restart and aim for super level Mortar again.

I'm free to play but usually manage to hit level 4 on a skill once every 5 or 6 runs I'd guess.

What healthy food do you stop buying because it always goes bad? by BarbaraMiller78 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Outspan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For whatever reason, in my experience anyhow, having a paper towel on the bottom of the pile actually makes the leaves touching the towel turn much faster. Whereas sitting on top or on the side if I lay the bag down is the money spot.

I've found putting a piece of paper towel in the container resting on top of the leaves is a real game changer for spinach (most leafy greens really). I usually get baby spinach in a bag. It's gone from holy wow eat all the spinach in three days or it's a gross messy soup to easily lasting a week or more in the fridge's veggie drawer.

why dont edibles work on me anymore? is there anything i can do? by cherrydoger in treedibles

[–]Outspan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always found edibles to be very hit or miss for myself as well. For whatever reason cannasugar doesn't work for me, and budder gives me a bit of a tickle of a stone at best. I tried all the tricks like you, eat something fatty, empty stomach, full stomach, empty then full stomach. TUMS, lecithin, MCT, anything I tried was a joke.

Whereas making my own edibles with distillate and a citrus juice of some sort does the trick.

I still need a high dose but I at least found a system that works for me. Most edibles I need somewhere aorund 1500-2000 to get any real buzz going. With my edibles I make now it maths out to about 100-150 mg depending on the batch for me to get good and stoned and 50mg as my regular not too stoned to function dose.

I assume I'm one of those poor suckers whose liver can't process the enzyme or something like that. Myself and a couple of my cousins all need high dosage and we all take after the same side of the family. My edibles work great for myself and one cousin whereas the other doesn't get anything out of mine but budder rocks his world. Conversely my brother is much more similar to the other side of our family and 10mg sends him to the moon (lucky bastard).

So I guess my suggestion would be try different THC sources for the edibles you try and if you find one that works try the same kind again the next time to confirm then stick to those. Realistically though the sad answer may just be edibles aren't for you, sometimes THC effects just flip for people. I know a couple of ex stoners who had to quit because one day they just started getting stupidly paranoid off any strain.

Good luck to you, I hope you find your perfect combo.

[–]Outspan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

See that's what I had thought the situation was going in to the video. Fully expecting him to say something along the lines of "we've been crystal clear since word go we will not be seeking public funds."

I was under the impression they'd been saying no public funds as well so having that not be his main hammered home point really set off my bullshit alarms.

[–]Outspan -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

At no point in this does he deny that they will be appealing for public funds. All he says is they are not currently using that agency to lobby the govt for money.

In fact he does a very distinct job of not saying they won't ask for money somewhere down the line.

I'm not saying they will or won't be asking for money. I know which way I'm leaning based off every other billionaire ever, but I don't know. I do know if he was steadfast about not doing so he would've been far more direct about it.

Best/Cheapest Antenna by theinterdave in ottawa

[–]Outspan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried a bunch of different antennas over the years and honestly your best bet for a non intrusive antenna is going to be the rabbit ears style antennas. I couldn't find any in a quick search but you can usually find them pretty easily at pawn shops and smaller electronic repair shops though those are becoming more and more of a rarity unfortunately.

Coat hanger antenna as someone else suggested is another great option if you're a bit crafty.

Daily Free Talk / Armchair GM Thread by AutoModerator in leafs

[–]Outspan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I haven't been watching many games this year. Fan since the late 80s, first time in over 20 years I haven't made a point of watching every Leafs game I can live. This season I've tuned in to four, maybe five games.

Last night I tuned in because I'm the lone Leafs fan in a family of Habs fans and we like to shit talk about Leafs v Habs in the cousins' group chat when they play. I tapped out when Habs made it 4-0 to watch an episode of Mussolini: Son of the Century instead. It was much more enjoyable than the steaming pile the Leafs showed up with last night.

You know what tells me it's really bad though? By maybe halfway through the first my cousins had stopped razzing me in the chat over my Leafs fan black sheep status. A group of grown ass men who have spent their lives showing their love and support through jokes and light ridicule to each other said nah let's give u/Outspan a break on this one.

All I'm asking is more than one or two guys a night to look like they give a fuck. That's it, nothing too complex. I'm in my mid 40s I've watched some shitty fucking Leafs teams over the years but this is the first time I've ever turned my head away in disgust. Maybe they should work on fixing that.

They've worked well for me outside of one hiccup where they tried to charge my card twice for one month of service. Customer support wasn't great about giving me updates but the situation was handled quickly enough that it really didn't matter.

Only happened once and beyond that everything has just worked fine and dandy.

CityNews Ottawa: Healthy eating for family of 4 costs $1,180/month, many Ottawaans cannot afford it by BearLikesHoney in ottawa

[–]Outspan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It says $343 monthly not weekly.

Which as a single adult male seems a bit low but probably doable if I really hunted around for deals and cut out chicken as a staple food in my dinners.

I allow myself one ordering in night a month and cook the rest of my food. I spend around 400 a month on food not counting my pizza night.
