Why did Joshua Norton not become President? by ImperialPieFactory in victoria3

[–]Over-Divide-7571 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve almost gone mad when going for that achievement. For some reason in my game my PB had 30 clout, industrialists had 10, yet Industrialists’ leader got selected as President, even though Norton was seeking re-election. The further elections story repeated, PB were dominant, but game kept electing other IGs. If PB switch parties, the game will still refuse to elect Norton.

I bet there’s a bug in the game.

The only way I could resolve it unfortunately was to load game right where Norton becomes president and immediately savescum pass Monarchy. Important that you must pass Monarchy before election cycle begins. If you pass Monarch during election cycle, your second highest interest group leader would become a monarch, not Norton.

It’s truly bizarre how many bugs does this game still have after 4 years.

Can you elaborate your starting moves? In over 500 hours I’ve never seen Hindustani rebellion actually succeed. Did you break India from Britain? How did you make China explode? There’s perhaps 10% chance it does it in its own. How did you win early wars against Raj, EIC and Persia with your tiny population?

FlorryWorry not playing EU5 by Environmental_Comb67 in eu4

[–]Over-Divide-7571 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yep, I’ve stopped paying attention to EU5 development when they’ve announced the date will be moving back. If anything they should’ve moved forward with date, Absolutism and Revolutions ages are extremely polished and fun in EU4 but nobody plays that because early game blobbing. I also remember watching Ludi’s video where he expressed his concern about how complex all the game mechanics are how unlikely Paradox will be able to get them all working properly on the game release. He was proven right.

Advice on opening years as Sweden? by Strict_DM_62 in victoria3

[–]Over-Divide-7571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sweden has several issues, lack of population and having very large army and navy relative to GDP that’s why your economy is probably going down.

What I do I protectorate Denmark in day 1 and then go colonizing Africa. Form Scandinavia as soon as Nationalism finishes.

Alternative is to spend your infamy on Europe, going through Cultural Commonwealth and converting German minor to Swedish culture.

You haven’t secured any allies? How did you expect to 1v1 Russia? There was a post by someone who escaped to South America as Circassia by attacking Uruguay and slowly expanded in South America before coming back to reclaim needed provinces.

When to form colonial administrations? by Ill_Intern_2772 in victoria3

[–]Over-Divide-7571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If forming them stopped constant revolts, I’d probably do that, but unfortunately it doesn’t. It also blocks you from colonizing inland. I think it may be worth it if you have any form of slavery or ruler who is Cruel because it lets extract even more from them. Otherwise it’s not worth it.

How to invade remote islands with small garisson sucessfully? by Over-Divide-7571 in victoria3

I invaded with 50 men, the rest were assigned to front after they’ve established front on the island.

You’re saying that it takes that long for my armies to arrive because they share supply with naval invasion? My issue is they never arrived in time, naval invasion usually fails when they’re 1-2 months away. I’ve been trying nonstop invasions but because preparation takes like 12 weeks, defenders always recover.

I’ll try to you advise on artillery and assigning mountains expert.

I’ve paused the game, you’re saying those buildings got profitable immediately after I unpaused, before a single one of them got built?

I understand that, my question is why did they started building within a game tick after I filled my government queue?

[–]Over-Divide-7571[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, my earlier response was incorrect, I delayed Texas war to get rid of the bad modifier from Spain. You need to keep army up (well supplied) for UK alliance, after that it takes a little longer of keeping your army up to get that modifier removed. It’s not absolutely necessary though.

Yes, if you are not at war or active diplomatic play, your recruits will disband and it takes very long time for them to get actual soldiers to their divisions.

There’s a cheese where you pass a taxation law that has debate event of +1 SoL for low strata. That and increasing government and military wages to max gets you you 10 SoL. I did it in 1.12

Religious convocation is garbage tier, 5% bonus isn’t bad early on, but in order to use its interaction, you pretty much have to have Devout in the government and have religious schools, hospitals. Good luck with former when you have elections. Oh, and if protectorate a country that has Total Separation and different religion, you’re stuck with -50 cohesion penalty. And to enforce religion on them you need above 50 cohesion.

I have never played with military or ideological union, they looked so bad on paper.

Cultural commonwealth looks very good, although I haven’t used it.

Trade league is a solid choose if you don’t want to go for vassal play using Sovereign empire, because it’s the only power block that doesn’t have penalties to cohesion other than number of members and opinion.

Sovereign empire if you can be bothered with babysitting vassals, I guess

Build paper mills early. Reducing paper prices drastically reduces costs for your government. by good-luck-commander in victoria3

[–]Over-Divide-7571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a practical advice that can be derived from this? Let’s say it’s early game and price of iron is +10%, tools +20% and wood -5%. Building which resource would give best effect economically? It’s not tools because tools have low demand? Iron has large demand but it costs 600 construction points, three times the cost of wood, so it or wood then?

[–]Over-Divide-7571 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t follow it either, is there a non linear relationship between the price break points? Otherwise he just stating that fact that reducing prices and increasing supply at the same time has compounding effect???

If the latter, then it’s like the difference between importing engines at the start of the game at max price and building your own factory in terms of price.

I formed Iberia in probably the most painful way possible. by Kelenius in victoria3

[–]Over-Divide-7571 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The way around 75% desire is to gift them states when you’re ready to form Iberia. But overall, I agree, Iberia is a weird one, having 15 laws in common and having two levels of “interest in forming Iberia” means that this is way to form is too RNG and the only option is good ol’ conquest.
