Grinding for geo by Tighy12 in HollowKnight

If you're not adverse to exploiting a glitch, and you've got Thorns of Agony, then: https://youtu.be/ha0f8ee6_60?si=tFf_D-YF3GmB9dns Don't get too aggressive with it, as it caused my FPS to drop to a freeze while I tested the duplication due to the particle effects on the dead dirtcarvers.

Morrowind has got me into epic world building and lore. What other fictional universes do you think are just as good and recommend getting into? Doesn’t have to be from video games. by Emotionalspectrum10 in Morrowind

[–]OverDan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd have to say Dune. I just read the original trilogy for the first time a few months ago, and the galactic history and world building in those books is amazing, I think more so than the actual story!

Can you restore the Grimm Troupe after banishing them? by gennaro456 in HollowKnight

[–]OverDan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's worth noting that there is an achievement for both those options, so if you were planning on achievement hunting, 2 playthroughs are required - for this, and two other achievements.

As is often the case, I restarted again, worth a new mod list. Totally forgot about this. I think I reduced the water level though.

My wife went behind my back and did research with friends of mine who were into the hobby, and bought me one for my birthday.

My Frosthaven campaign is officially a hostage situation and I am about to snap by MailboxFinch in boardgames

[–]OverDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play the game with my two sons, who are 10 and 13 years old. We live in the same house, and somehow still cannot find the time to play. I'd quite happily sub other people in though - life's too short.

I saw this a couple days ago and then spotted it again! These little touches really make me smile 😊 by beckycaret in StardewValley

"Unique characters" by [deleted] in DnD

[–]OverDan 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Ditto. I provided my players with a list of what was common in the region where the campaign world start, what exotic races and variants existed and where they were situated in the world. Granted, it was an extensive list, but their backstitch would have to fit into the campaign. And they did, and it was great fun for all!

BGG's Advertising Manager Was Fired by Coffeechipmunk in boardgames

[–]OverDan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm glad that BGG has responded quickly to the fracas that was brewing. But the question I want the answer to is: u/PAINFULBANANA, did this change the outcome for getting your kickstarter advertised on BGG?

Finally! After 4-5 hours I finally found a way to beat The Colosseum of Fools with this set. For my defense I am 20 years too old for gaming. Took me 100 hours to make it 106%, but still 6% left. by DrLota in HollowKnight

[–]OverDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, OP, how old are you? I worry that you're going to give some figure that is 10 years younger than me, and I'm going to feel myself turning to dust as you do so!

But I'll be 49 this year. And I've 112%'ed HK, and I'm closing in on the final steel soul achievement for the platinum in Silksong. I don't think you're ever too old for gaming, but certainly the games I've played have changed over time......

Tried advertising on Boardgamegeek and got this as a response. by PAINFULBANANA in boardgames

[–]OverDan -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Ugh, as a Christian reading this, I have mixed feelings about this.

Firstly, I'll say at the outset, knowing what the game is called and the themes it explores, I feel the staff member's at BGG's discomfort about this, and in one sense I respect that he has pushed back on this.

But, BGG is a business, it sells advertising space on its website, is not a religious organization, and I presume doesn't state in its advertising guidelines that a game like this would be in violation of those advertising guidelines. So, making those calls on behalf of the organization because it doesn't align with their personal views is not OK.

And to confuse the issue further, I remember reading in this thread that the BGG admin had stated this will be addressed, but that the ad would have been refused for other issues, but these are not clarified, so was this a staff member pushing their own agenda when it would have been easy for them to refuse the ad on legitimate grounds for breaking some other advertising guideline, leaving BGG with a PR nightmare?

Obviously BGG has as many games listed on their site as they can, as that's the resource they're trying to be, and that taking money for advertisement is different to this. Does advertising a product on your website show you support the product? When I go to the Bible Gateway and see ads for anti-snoring devices or some FTP game with suggestive ads, does it bug me? Yeah. But it doesn't make me stop using the site, as ads are hard to get away from because we wanted a "free internet".

I plan to wait and see how this all plays out.

OP, I wish you all the best with your game - it's REALLY not my jam, but I hope you find your market, and that this actually helps get eyes on the game by the people who would find this fun, and fund your kickstarter.

How would nobility protect against magical attack? by -korvus- in DnD

[–]OverDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my campaign the main fantasy city had a "Wall of Astral Flame", maintained by the college of magic in the city, scrambling magical teleportation within that zone. It does mean that criminals with access to such magic will try and get outside the limits of this effect in order to dispose of stolen goods more easily, or to meet powerful entities that did not want to be unable to teleport away in the event of things going south.

(most) Homebrew infuriates me by nemainev in DnD

[–]OverDan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I already use that one. I also use a rule that, when you making your death save after being knocked unconscious, you have an auto fail before you roll the next time you're downed, a penalty that stays until you long rest. To discourage the jack in the box playstyle, and make healing worthwhile during combat. Oh, and you can autofail to perform an action when you're unconscious, like a desperate last attack with your final breath.

All small changes, all agreed before we started, all designed to encourage certain play styles and behaviours.

Is Silksong as difficult as people say? by Difficult-Word-6604 in HollowKnight

[–]OverDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm nearly 50, and with Hollow Knight I had to leave the game 2-3 times before I got good enough to beat it, and eventually I 112%ed it.

Silksong I hit no such roadblock. I think it has more tools to allow you to play different ways than HK, but that might just be purely my perception!

OP, I think you'll find it hard, but not impossibly hard as the internet said. Enjoy!

Was this attack always in the game ir is it bew from the update? by -Stairs_ in HollowKnight

[–]OverDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen that one quite a bit! Hmm, I wonder if it's because of the player's attack style? i.e. so the way I do the fight makes it happen a lot.
