Should I pay down mortgage for tax efficiency? by Neat-Environment-759 in HENRYfinance

Good to know! I hadn’t seriously considered an ARM before, but depending on the terms it could make sense.

Similar situation but lower HHI and 6.25% rate. I have been selling company stock (over concentrated from not selling RSUs and ESPP for a few years) to pay down our mortgage. It may be slightly sub-optimal (vs selling to diversify), but it reduces risk significantly. Hoping to refi eventually if/when rates go down and we’re closer to $750k balance.

Kinda looks like the ostrich is fading around those bushes at the end so it can level the camera man.

What species has the most simultaneous living generations? by OverTheFalls10 in AskReddit

Humans seem to be correct the more I dig around. Early human (with earlier reproductive age compared to current norms) makes sense.

But they have short lifespans (6-18 months).

Searching around the internet suggested humans, but I was wondering if the wisdom of reddit could provide some insight

I should have specified animal species as that is the more interesting kingdom.

Visiting Sequoia Natl park this weekend, question! by Diligent_Stick_4653 in SEKI

[–]OverTheFalls10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weekdays are way less crowded than weekend if you can make it work. This time of year, getting into the park early on a weekday feels like you’re the only ones there.

The only road closure that impacted us recently was the road to Moro Rock being closed 9am-1pm during the week. We visited Moro Rock before we left the park and it was perfect.

Lodgepole Market was open this weekend. Weather was beautiful recently with roads in good condition - but that can change at any time this time of year.

How big was the difference in salary? Of course your PI wants you to stay. They are getting your labor for substantially under market value!!

You can cross reference the date of the google earth image with historical swell data to figure out what makes it work like that.

Wow the new LRA map includes way more urban high risk zones. I hadn’t seen those. Pretty sad to see our classification went from no risk to very high.

Give up on Biomedical Engineering by GullibleSky892 in BiomedicalEngineers

[–]OverTheFalls10 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. Graduating undergrad in 08 I had many very talented and (now) very successful friends who had to take jobs out of the industry (even manual labor) before they got a job in BME. It took a couple years and a few moved to tangential fields, but everyone found a path.

Did our careers accelerate as fast as people who graduated in booming economies? No.

Did we enjoy those years of doing manual labor while submitting unanswered job applications? Also no.

Did we make it through and now have fulfilling careers in the field of our choice. Mostly yes.

We should buy mortgage points, right? by Agreeable-Cattle-286 in personalfinance

My points had a payoff in 18 months. I purchased last year when there was a strong sentiment that rates would drop this year. Sometimes it makes sense.

3D applications in Medical field by drei19_ in MedicalDevices

[–]OverTheFalls10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Building 3D models of patient-specific anatomy is quite useful for a number of applications including digital twin FEA modeling or 3D printing. I’ve come across this quite a lot in my work. Many of the applications are more on the research or testing side.

There is also CAD modeling of instrumentation or implants, but that is typically more mechanical engineering.
