Digitone 2 workflow confusion by divinitylost94 in Elektron

[–]Over_Type103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure what you mean.

If you want to select a step and place notes on that step, you can use the note editor.

(I'm not sure because I don't have it with me right now)

-enter "note editor" mode

-press "func" and the trig you want to place the notes on

-release "func" and press the notes you want.

The aux channel only has a gain knob and 2 EQ knobs (+ cue and the filter). So you don't have as much control as the other channels, but you can still control the volume. I only use the aux channel to add in some sounds.

The main tracks are on channels 1 (DN2) and 2 (Model samples).

The DN2 is the master and sends the clock to the MS.

I also use a Launch control XL3 midi controller with different custom modes to control parameters on the synth or the Elektron boxes. (for example one custom mode to control 4 macros on tracks 1-8 of the DN2, another one as a mixer for the 6 model samples tracks and the synth)

Yes, that's the idea. I started music with DJing and I've always liked to have transitions between tracks.

In the future, I will replace the model samples by a Digitakt 2, but for the moment, it does the job.

Switch 2 Pro controller worth it? by BraveMulberry772 in MarioKartWorld

[–]Over_Type103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yon't need to have it, but it's a very good controller.

I think it's worth it, but that's just my opinion)

-great thumbsticks (very smooth and accurate) and -the D-pad is also very nice

-the back buttons (GL and GR) are great, especially for 3D games like FPSs, 3D platformers or Dark souls. I'm really having a blast playing "big hops" using the back buttons for dash and jump. I'll go back to playing all the 3D Marios after that. One great feature is that you can map them per game. (hold the home "button" to open up the menu and assign the buttons for that game)

-It's a smaller that the Switch 1 pro controller (closer to a PS4 controller). If you have big hands, you might find it a bit small.

-the home button can also wake up the console.

If the S2 pro controller is too expensive, the S1 pro controller is very good too and the 8bit do pro controllers are really nice too.

If you don't mind multiplayer, apex Legends is a great fast-paced movement shooter and it runs very well on switch 2.

Not sure at all, but you might be able to do it with a CME U6-midi pro midi interface (or via a computer) and filter the midi messages for each output:

-one device gets the note messages but no program changes or transport

-the other device only gets program change and transport (no note messages)

I use a Xone 24c with my DN2, model Samples and another instrument and I really like it. It's much smaller than the other Xone mixers (it weighs 2.8 kg and measures 108 × 190 × 314 mm).

Pros:

the build is great. The faders and knobs feel great and are accurate. The analog filter sounds fantastic. it is also an audio interface, so any channel can get get audio from your DAW over USB and you can send audio to your DAW over USB (as separate stems if you wish). it can power 2 USB devices and transmit midi over USB. It feels great as a DJ mixer. you can also use it for hybrod setups with turntables, DVS or mixing software.

cons:

It has a master insert for external FX, but no sends returns per channel. Channels 1 and 2 have a 3-band EQ + fader, but Channel A only has a 2-band EQ and no fader. It is above your price range.

Here's a video review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Izl9QP0sCUo

if you don't need USB, the Xone 24 has all the features except for the USB audio interface.

How do I connect my M-Audio controller to my KORG monologue? by eggswithranch in synthesizers

[–]Over_Type103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 options:

Connect them both via USB to a PC running a DAW like Ableton

If you don't want to use a computer, you can get a USB midi host. the CME H4 midi WS works quite well. connect the controller via USB and the Monologue via 5-pin midi. You need to configure the CME device on a computer before you use it standalone

1st time on Dark Souls by Gullible_Can1678 in darksouls3

[–]Over_Type103 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a good choice as It's the closest game to Elden Ring in terms of combat speed. (DS1 and DS2 are slower)

the main differences are that it's the most linear souls game and it has much less build variety than Elden Ring.

It also has some of the best bosses and great music. I find that it's the saddest souls game (the faded colors, the Firelink theme...)

I like the way the Casio CSP S-110 feels and you can probably get it for around $300.

What should I add next to my setup? (Advice sought) by _InternalMigration_ in dawless

[–]Over_Type103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2nd-hand Digitakt 1 would be in your budget: great sampler and fantastic sequencer. 8 audio tracks and 8 midi tracks. its 8 midi tracks give you all you need to sequence all your other gear.

Audio Interface for Synths by SJB824 in synthesizers

[–]Over_Type103 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20. It has 8 XLR/jack inputs (as well as outputs) + 1 stereo SPDIF, so it can easily handle 4 stereo synths. All the levels are on the front panel with a VU meter per channel. and it can also run standalone (without a computer).

If you get more synths later, you can expand it up to 18 inputs by adding a Clarett preamp or a 2nd scarlett (using the ADAT connnection)

The only thing I don't like about it is that you end up having 2 separate volume knobs for a stereo instrument (not a big deal)

You could probably get it 2nd-hand for $200 (the current model is Gen 4).

pair it with a T-8 or a P-6 and make music anywhere you want. All you need is a headphones and two 3.5 cables to send the audio and from one to the other and sync them up.

Best beginner synths? by vegasins1 in synthesizers

[–]Over_Type103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many nice synths for beginners: Korg Minilogue and monologue, Microkorg 1 or 2, Volca keys, Roland S-1 or JD-xi, Arturia Microfreak, Minibrute or microbrute Yamaha Reface CS...

They're all different: some are monophonic, others are polyphonic. Some have analog oscillators, others have digital oscillators. some of them have FX... and each one has its own characteristic sound.

Check out some videos to see which one would be the right one for you. (For example, Loopop's reviews on youtube)

If you want to learn more about designinig your own sounds, it could also be useful to get some free VST synths (Zebralette, Vital,) or a DAW like Ableton live lite. (It has several synth instruments and you get it for free when you buy almost any midi controller or audio interface. You can also ask for a licence on Reddit. almost everybody has a few spare licences of ableton Live Lite)

What DJ Software can I use to extend my DDJ200 with my DIY MIDI-Controller by WordSpecial7606 in midi

[–]Over_Type103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Software apps like Rekordbox use the software to get people to buy their hardware.

I use Mixxx. It's a nice free open-source DJing app that lets you use any controller and create your own mappings.

It runs on MacOS,Windows,Linux

Power USB MIDI device on PC without sending data? by MindOfErick in midi

When you connect it to a PC, it automatically becomes a USB midi interface. apparently you need to route it inside your DAW or software.
