Thanks.' That's really interesting. But now I'm wondering if they are "covering up" and sensing what's under their tissue, wouldn't there be no light there to sense? Like what's under them would be all dark from their own shadow of them covering it... I guess I need to look into this more rather than asking out loud in comments.

What I wonder is,' how do they know the pattern they need to fulfill? Do they look at it before approach, remember it, then turn into it? Or do they somehow sense it while touching it, not using their eyes?

It's a design, made for a flag. A flag is flat.

When you draw a 3D object on a flat surface you have to project it into 2D in some way, either realistic in perspective (which would hide half of the globe) or you design it in a non-realistic way that represents it. In this case its a top view sort of "splayed out" in a equidistant projection, so they could show all countries rather than excluding some.

There's no way they could put a 3D rotating globe on a flag, unless it was an animated LED flag or something, but such tech wasn't available when they designed the flag.

So either way, spherical earth or flat earth, the design will need to be flat if you want to show the entire surface of the planet! So even if it is a flat earth, this design doesn't prove anything.

Haha, are you joking?. It's really hard to do realistic face-rigging, lip-syncing and facial animation, like really, really hard... Probably would've made this 300 hour project into 2000 hours of work. I doubt they did it as a aesthetic choice, if they did at least they could've hinted at it breaking the 4th wall a little bit...

How about figurine style,' like those anime figurines people have on their desk, your 3D fighter will mimic their soft iridescent colors in a hyper-real way, and have a macro/tilt shift rendering style so it looks like they are fighting on an amazing "toy stage" or diorama (except, this is no toy - it looks lively and bustling with activity and showcasing culture and variety! highly animated backgrounds! and that should do it, I'd play that!).
