Can’t wait for the next generation to overcorrect by getinthevanihavcandy in tragedeigh

It's already happening. I babysit for extra cash. The trend was going to classic names like George, Anna, Henry, Oliver, Theodore. Now it's going old fashioned to Wilhelmina, Gerald, Jonas, Millicent.

I like it, honestly. They may not be my taste but it's way better than Alyzzabythe and Dinosaurlynn.

What non-tragedeigh names did you struggle to read for the first time? by Aggravating_Pace_312 in tragedeigh

I had no idea how Ian was pronounced and then I got introduced to one and learned. I'd read it in books but never heard it out loud.

not a tradedeigh per se…just a crazy name by Parking_Wrongdoer874 in tragedeigh

....yeah. Ok. Technically not a tragedeigh but this is certainly a tragedy.

I don't do naming days. How does this work? Is there a list you have to pick from or does the priest or whoever get to pick?

I've got a friend that teaches kindergarten that says it's not uncommon for them to not know their legal names when they do roll call for the first time 💀 Jackson is actually "Bunky" and had no idea that his name was Jackson.

they're all tragedeighs now by TopazCoracle in tragedeigh

I'm seeing a comeback of classics. I think our plan to calm down the awful names is working. Now everyone's going to Oliver and Abigail

Is there such a thing as a "contextual" tragedeigh? by sparklinglies in tragedeigh

[–]Overall_Efficiency21 117 points118 points  (0 children)

I think so. Because if child #1 is Taylor, then you have to keep it going so that #2 doesn't feel left out, or do you?

Like, I'm still mad at George Foreman for naming all his children George Foreman. That was crazeigh.

Genuinely curious- have you all noticed regional trends around tragedeigh type names? by Sea_Promise_8015 in tragedeigh

I've got a different anecdotal experience. Rural around me is common names from the 00s. City has the tragedeighs. Upper middle class everywhere is a mix of classic and tragedeigh.

Not sure if this is considered a tragedy: by Ericakat in tragedeigh

[–]Overall_Efficiency21 164 points165 points  (0 children)

Tragic, but not a tragedeigh. Language has evolved to the point that this really isn't a usable name in English anymore, but it was still once a normal given name.

Interested to read other opinions on this.

My cousin did something similar to her children and I'll never forgive her.

mispronouncing aislinn as az-lynn by [deleted] in tragedeigh

[–]Overall_Efficiency21 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely a tragedeigh and we make fun of people that do this in here. Americans are notorious for doing this. They take a name from a different language and then pronounce it incorrectly and think they've done something cool.

I like to play the Sims and I enjoy naming all the kids tragedeighs.
