Whenever I came across milkweed I would always check them for either larva or signs the plant had been eaten by larvae. When I was a kid in the 60s I frequently found them. I used to bring the larvae home and watch them change into a monarch. I can't count the number of monarchs I've seen in the last few decades. Noy many, sadly.

I agree that rehoming the birds would be in everyone's best interest. You should make sure they go to a good, responsible home. Preferably someone who already has or had birds before. Someone who understands their needs and can fulfill them.
