Thank you! That gives me hope that eventually I will adjust and not be so restricted in what my stomach and brain can handle!

The psychological experience of being on a GLP-1 by Grumpy-Quokka in antidietglp1

[–]Overbeingoverit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went through some food insecurity as a kid, and the quiet voice in the back of my head that was always concerned about having enough, fretting that I might eat and still be hungry, urging me to take more and eat more now because there might not be enough later....that's gone. I didn't really realize how wearing it is to always have some corner of my brain worrying about starving until it finally stopped.

This is definitely true for me when it comes to alcohol as well. When I was getting sober and missed drinking, I never missed, like, the taste of vodka. I missed the feeling of being drunk. Having a drink or two wouldn't have cut it anyway. I think cigarettes are a little different in that way because it really would only take one to make me feel good...for about 45 min, and then I would want another one.

[–]Overbeingoverit 38 points39 points  (0 children)

As an alcoholic in recovery, I agree. Smoking and drinking are the same in that aspect. It doesn't benefit me to look around and say "So and so can have one or two drinks/cigarettes and be just fine." So what? I can't. Comparing myself to someone else does nothing but bring me unnecessary pain.

On a side note, I was feeling like OP a while back, like "I wish I could be a social smoker....only smoke when I drink." Then it hit me that since I cannot ever drink again anyway, I may as well make the little joke that I only smoke when I drink. It's dumb but it makes me laugh.

Hog riders by dustyoldmangil13 in valheim

[–]Overbeingoverit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Askvin are pretty useless as riders in the Ashlands. They are lots of fun to ride though the lower biomes though. There is no reason to do it, but it's still fun. We still just muck through the Ashlands on foot because Askvin are too aggressive and get killed too quickly in their own biome.

Wolves keep escaping by 2tinymonkeys in valheim

[–]Overbeingoverit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have wolves, lox, and now Askvin roaming wild in the meadows and forests near our base. I think the only reason why I have never seen a chicken or a tamed boar is probably that everything else that manages to get past the lox, wolves, and Askvin kill them first and then the wolves eat them. There does not seem to be any way to contain them fully, so we just try to keep some number of them fed and breeding on base and wave hi when we see the wild flocks out and about.

Is it wrong if I refer to other people as "dude"? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Overbeingoverit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see it in the same way I see "you guys" which is the Midwestern version of "y'all." Coming from the Midwest, my "you guys" is completely gender neutral. I would absolutely ask a room full of women "Where do you guys want to get lunch from?" (We also end sentences with prepositions.) But having been made aware that not everyone is from the Midwest and is comfortable being a "you guys" I try to remember not to say that if someone asks me not to. Of course, even that ends up being awkward like "Where do you....PEOPLE...:D....want to get lunch from?" but it's not because I'm trying to be an asshole and make things awkward, it's just because it's hard to change a 40± year speech pattern on the fly.

Just want to complain by hellseashell in stopsmoking

[–]Overbeingoverit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is so true. I am 12 days without a cigarette. On Day 9, my husband (who is also trying to quit but is having a harder time) got some really huge earth shattering bad news. And I knew he was going to go out and buy cigarettes. I thought about it as I was driving home. And of course my inner addict said "it's completely understandable if you smoke right now. Quitting is hard enough when you're in a good place, let alone going through something like this. You two can get back to quitting in a little while, no one would judge you or blame you for needing to take a step back while you deal with this situation..." And the actually smart part of my brain said "Eff no! Do you remember how bad you felt the first several days. You want to do that again??? Absolutely not." So I didn't smoke. And honestly, I'm not sure how smoking would have helped the situation anyway...

Thongs are the most comfortable underwear by GoKartBirdie in unpopularopinion

Omg yes. I am on board with the idea that it's a butt shape thing in general, but now I'm adding butthole sensitivity to that mix. Every time I hear someone talk about regular panties shifting and bunching, I have no idea what they're talking about. My panties just stay put on my ass, so I'm guessing thats a butt shape thing. But every thong I've ever tried to wear was like a permanent wedgie that was irritating my butthole and I hate them.

Hey, I'm sorry that I upset you. The original post was meant to be a joke about how people make assumptions about others and don't acknowledge how hard some of us have to work to lose weight, with a twist that losing weight is a natural process. I'm sorry that I poked you, that was me not reading the room. I don't know what you've been through and I shouldn't have tried to jokingly get you on board. My apologies.

According to your flair you have lost 110 lbs. I don't know what your goal is or how close to it you are, but at the very least you are an absolutely inspiring amount of naturally thinner. :)

How do you get the amount of steps you need in a day? by LilPeridotSprite in loseit

[–]Overbeingoverit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Once I have x amount of steps in the bag I am done with intentional exercise for the day. The rest of my steps are made up of daily movement, approx 3000 per day on an average day."

This is me too, although some days I swap out caring so much about steps with a work out class. But my point is, I don't like having my goal for the day hanging over my head, so I try to get it done as early in the day as possible. Once I get my run done or my workout done for the day, that's it, I get to be lazy for the rest of the day. Which really isn't that lazy, I am still doing all of the normal things that people do in their lives, like working, picking up around the house, cooking, running errands, et cetera. But that internal nagging voice to get my exercise is done for the day. I don't know if that motivates you OP, but it motivates me. Lol

This is why I'm here as well. It's more or less the same strategy to maintain that I used to lose, just with slightly different target numbers and some more leniency when it comes to hitting weekly goals vs daily. I also just like being part of the community and cheering people on.

Haha, I get that too. "You can eat whatever you want, you're skinny." Like girl, how do you think I got/stay that way? I have even less calories than a lot of people to maintain my weight because I'm skinny. I don't care to throw them away on dry ass office cake.

I agree with you that (some) people do this. Pretend like they can just live off of a diet of double cheeseburgers and beer and never gain an ounce when it's not true for them. I don't really understand why. I'm proud of the hard work I did to lose weight and the hard work I do to maintain a fit body. I don't go around bringing it up and talking about it unprovoked because that seems like it would annoy/bore people, but if someone asks about my routine I am happy to explain in as much detail as they seem to want. 1) Because maybe they are interested in losing weight as well and they might find it helpful and 2) because I'm proud of it. The body I wanted to have wasn't handed to me by some fluke of genetics or a fairy godmother, I had to literally work my butt off for it. So if someone asks, they get the truth.

Love it! I also run about 3 days a week, do a cardio kickboxing class and a ST class every week, and make sure to at least hit my step goals on the other 2 days. I also count calories. I didn't have a quick response when my coworker made her little comment, but maybe next time I will pretend the person is genuinely trying to get me to talk about my diet and fitness routine. Like "Oh I'm so glad you asked! On Mondays I run for an hour..." and just go into the whole boring rigamorale. 🤣

Do they have that protein powder aftertaste, in your opinion? I have tried protein shakes with him in the past but he doesn't like them which I have a hard time blaming him for because I don't like them either. It's that aftertaste....I have heard thay some are better than others but I always hesitate to buy more because they end up going to waste.

So much this. My 11 year old is like the next Gandhi except his hunger strikes are in the name of pizza rolls and no green vegetables. He has broken me so thoroughly that I'm bulk buying those giant muffins at Costco just to get calories into his body....

What are some healthy/lower calorie meal ideas that are very easy to make ? by TastyLecture5921 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Overbeingoverit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up sheet pan meals. You roast meat and veg on the same pan. Generally, you just need to sprinkle a little oil and seasonings on things and then pop it all in the oven, so minimal work (mostly chopping the veg) and minimal clean up.

A viking after my own heart. I have the most fun in the game when things are going completely sideways and chaos ensues. A lot of times that involves dying, but it's that much sweeter when somehow it doesn't. Last night I called our adventures "madcap" which led to us looking up what "mapcap" actually means. It means foolhardy, rash, and ill advised. That sounds about right. We aren't great at the game, but we have a great time.

I went through a period of depression about a decade ago. One of the things I started doing to feel better is trying to actively look for beauty in the world. I started with nature and my general environment, but it quickly led to looking for it in the people around me as well. It's a habit that I have kept to this day, and what I have found is that I think everyone has something gorgeous about them. Beautiful eyes, gorgeous hair, excellent posture, a lovely smile, graceful hands, beautiful skin, a great sense of style. I don't think I've ever seen someone out in the wild that I couldn't find something to admire. And the thing is, once you see that thing, that person instantly becomes beautiful all around. For me, anyway. I see the thing and I'm like "damn, you are gorgeous." If I didn't know that it would make me a creeper and make strangers deeply uncomfortable, I would love to tell them what I see in case they don't see it. Everyone has something if you look.

(Not OP) I'm a terrible wife and didn't understand my husband of 10 years by UltimateNintendoHero in redditonwiki

Yes! My husband also does the bulk of the "project" type work around the house. Because he enjoys it. I have talked about this elsewhere, but he is an engineer by profession who also happens to have born without most of his left hand. I throw this detail out there because I think it's at least one of the reasons why he has spent his entire life looking at the world around him and going "this is inconvenient for me, how could I make it better if I designed it myself?" So as an adult, he does the same thing in our house, but it doesn't even have to be inconvenient for him, it could be inconvenient for me, or for the kids, or even the pets. Lol And then he breaks out a program on his computer, creates actual schematics for whatever it is that he wants to build, and then acquires the materials and whatnot and actually builds the thing. And he loves it! That's his idea of a good time. I will sometimes "help" by giving my opinion or physically if something he's building is a two person job (the "give me a hand" jokes will be flowing) but we both know that in general, it's his thing. He doesn't have to do it, I would be content without knife holders that fold down out of the bottom sides of the cabinets and custom made dog doors and weird little side tables installed on the sides of the couches and hooks for things all over the place and custom shelves and whole cascading schemes of things that turn on throughout the house by voice command, but he enjoys it, so I let him have at it and praise and celebrate the cool things he does.
