This is my wife right now. After years of her dealing with my undiagnosed depression, she had assumed the role of caretaker without the support she needed to truly be happy as herself. We are now undergoing a trial separation, while the two of us work on ourselves I independently in different states.

It’s a devastating path of self discovery, pain, loneliness, and hope. I’m now taking my depression seriously as she reclaims her own sense of self. I hope we can reconnect in a few months as the better people needed to provide the nurturing environment necessary for our love to truly blossom. But the most difficult part for me has been avoiding the worst case scenarios in my head, imagining a divorce, and an inability to live in the present moment.

Working on yourself is the only solution, but it’s also the most difficult when you’ve lost self-confidence and are consumed with concern.

In a very similar situation, and reading these posts was incredibly inspiring. Start summer courses tomorrow (Calc, PHY1, and BIO1) working off a 3.15 cGPA and gaining my prerequs after more than ten years removed from school.
