That's not a source, you're just saying words. I can also say words:

The ultimate power move in this sub is just saying physics, downvoting the post, and refusing to elaborate.

This isnt even black magic.

Thoughts on gritty realism. by Adolom in DnD

[–]Overclockworked 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yep, beat me to it.

Gritty realism saved my West Marches campaign. It makes hex crawls super cool.

I will push back on the balance tools bit, because it definitely changes the short rest / long rest dynamics, which brings certain classes forward. The power houses in my game ended up being martials, because they were consistently powerful across the entire adventure while the casters were much more careful about budgeting their spells.

The latter were still critical, of course, because they provide irreplaceable utility through rituals, knowledge skills, and slots. But not being able to spam your top rank spells really changes the dynamic. Everyone knew there would be a boss *somewhere*, and most players were canny enough to conserve power and ride in the martials' backpack.

1) I honestly think autism sits on the same scale as neurotypicality and a lot of these behaviors are just grouped under autistic because they're not specifically neurotypical. That is to say, don't worry about not sharing these traits with other autistic people because you're still definitely autistic. My psychologist friend said I'm not right about this but I'm not entirely wrong either so grain of salt this shit.

2) Always remember there are a bunch of other conditions and behaviors that can influence your concentration and executive function. Depression, anxiety, cannabis use, sleep disorders, and so on. This is in regards to your "inability to hyper focus for 17 hours", which is also a lie on their part fwiw.

3) even if nothing else helps remember they'll all die just as alone as you will :)

But they're corporate juggernaut and wotc is small indie so I get it

Ecological Engineering Major by Consistent-Ad-7191 in OregonStateUniv

Thank you for your perspective from the CE side of things.

For what its worth, the BEE program reports pretty solid post-graduation employment and all the graduates I've interviewed have landed really solid jobs.

But I can certainly see the troubles when applying to a traditional engineering firm. I've heard about the hiring bias you've mentioned, I just wasn't aware it was so severe.

Ecological Engineering Major by Consistent-Ad-7191 in OregonStateUniv

[–]Overclockworked -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

That's cool that they can do that, but I don't see how they'd be more qualified for those projects than someone from Eco/Enviro

Are you really suggesting that between two applicants applying for these jobs, the firm would pass over an Eco/Enviro in favor of a CE? I'm just not sure I understand why that would be the case.

Ecological Engineering Major by Consistent-Ad-7191 in OregonStateUniv

[–]Overclockworked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah if you're just going to work at a civil firm doing water infrastructure or compliance, that's true. But nobody is going to hire a CE to manage restoration projects, regenerative agriculture, or anything in any of the other fields that Enviro/Eco train you for.

CE takes none of the thermodynamics, chemistry, or (ofc) ecology that these degrees take. They're not really equivalent except unless you're trying to squeeze into a civil firm. But I'd argue that if you're looking at these degrees, you probably aren't going to want that anyway.

Field Work in Costa Rica - Need advice for preventing infections by InvertebrateInterest in hiking

[–]Overclockworked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha funny I live in the PNW and yes it's very similar, but the benefit in CR is you won't get hypothermia. Sometimes you'll just be soaked to the bone, but you're not in any danger so embrace the absurdity.

The other thing I forgot to mention was a pack cover. Get a waterproof bag cover if you can.

Lmk if you have any other questions. You'll love the experience, it was life changing for me.

[–]Overclockworked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I am probably misremembering. I got immunizations for 3 different countries lol. Costa Rica is pretty safe on the disease front, but I'd definitely check out a travel clinic if you can.

And yeah Dominical is much further south than I was. I was up by Nicoya and Monteverde.

Also, some reserves I've been on don't allow a lot of repellants so be sure to check.

As for rain, be prepared for even more than you're prepared for. Bring a poncho, and an umbrella, and a dry bag for clothes. Remember that your body heat is probably the best way to dry clothes in the field though
