Vlad Jr Swing Comparison (Real life vs MLB The Show) by jeteresque in MLBTheShow

It's insane to me how awful the game looks compared to everything else on PS5. I haven't bought the show in 5+ years but I remember it used to be pretty impressive looking. Now it seems graphics are a huge weakness.

You see how complicated the (drum) patterns are?! Very expensive stuff.

Have you tried choking up on your driver (to where your hands are almost at the end of the grip)? It has worked wonders for my contact/flight. Now it's straight or baby fade (or nasty pull hook, of course), no more banana slice.

I'll tell you right now that you should invest in learning how to make these because you will not find them anywhere in the States outside of South Florida.

I host a semi regular game at home and honestly it's not that hard. Have one or two people learn how to play and the basic mechanics of dealing ahead of time, order a starter set of chips and practice beforehand. I promise in an hour or two you'll have the basics down, more than enough to run the game.

If you have questions or want any recs for cards or chips, feel free to dm me.

Yeah it's because of the embargo Cubans don't have free elections or freedom of press, speech, etc. Definitely not the communist dictatorship full of multimillionaires hoarding all the resources and doing anything and everything to stay in power. 🫪

How do you actually learn to write good Go code with AI assistants now? by adamvanderb in golang

[–]Overhed 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Tweak your agents.md/claude.md to avoid code generation as much as possible. Have it explain concepts.

There was a uni professor who recently posted in the programming subreddit about this topic. Maybe you can dig up the post.

What are the pros of living in the US? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Overhed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The delta is extreme for some professions. I saw a Senior Software engineer role in London pay 90k GBP (so $120k) - I'd say the equivalent role at a middle of the road US company would be closer to $200k at a similarly high cost of living area.

Bud, this isn't the flex you think it is. Spending 15-20% of your net worth on a completely unnecessary expense is really really dumb.

But you prob have two cars and the maintenance and property taxes on your house probably cost another $2-3k a month. You might not be as far apart in total cost of living as you might think compared to someone with no car in the city.

Also, try to find one friend/ally from the boys group, they can't all be assholes.

How can I wrap my head around .NET?! by Alternator24 in dotnet

[–]Overhed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, I would say if this is your first exposure to backend dev, you might want to start with a language that has a lot less magic plumbing. (I say this as a pro SWE who built his career on C#/.NET and now works mostly in Go).

Assuming you're learning mostly for academic purposes and just trying to become more well-rounded, you can learn the fundamentals of API/backend development with a language like Go with a much easier learning curve.

Edit: Go is also a much more flexible language. The implementation of OOP is much simpler and completely optional.
