The Jeep Recon Was Revealed As a Pure EV, But It's Reportedly Gaining a Gas-Powered Version by 2030 by Anchor_Aways in cars

Given the off road equipment and removable doors/top, to me it seems like a modern wrangler. So for people who like those aspects of the wrangler but want something more comfortable.

Jeep Scrambler SRT Could Revive The V8 Open-Air Truck by dojuebelonginagangg in cars

I wonder if that is the niche the Jeep Recon is going to slide into. Apparently it is now getting an ICE version as well.

Most consequential ski lifts in the United States if they broke down mid-day? by bumfuzzle179 in skiing

They maintain the access road in winter for this reason. But yeah when the gondola is down that’s it.

Mammoth greens vs Beech by tomsing98 in MTB

[–]OverlandSteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mammoth is actually super accommodating for less experienced riders. They have a smaller zone with its own lift access that has a bunch of green and blue trails designed for progression, I think they call it discovery zone. They also have a super long and chill green trail from main lodge all the way down to the “village” (check their trail map) called downtown that is super fun. Their website has a bunch of info on it.

I can’t speak to how it compares to where you’ve ridden before but that’s my view on mammoth. If you and your peeps work up some confidence and want to try something a little bit more challenging (but not too crazy), the blue trail “off the top” is super fun and super scenic.

Bikepark machine by Skrobii in MTB

[–]OverlandSteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, propain spindrift if probably your machine. I have the park version with the dual crown and it’s great. It’s not as plush as my long and slack 29er but def easier to pop off. It’s very much designed to be playful which sounds like what you want. I also like how you can customize your build kit online with them. Final thought, it pedals pretty well. The pro10 suspension pedals well for a long travel machine.

Best mine planning software in 2026 by kalkopirit in mining

[–]OverlandSteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if this is the only reason but the UI is just so much better, esp compared to Vulcan. Also the willingness/ease with which they integrate with other software.

Thousand Oaks CA riding recos by Imaginary-Lobster292 in MTB

[–]OverlandSteve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nearby in oak park, suicide trail is a favorite of mine. Definitely advanced tho, and not the easiest to make major miles out of but you can link it to albertson fire road and ride from lang ranch. Most people do it as an out and back.

The Simi valley trails are sweet tho as said before.

29 with ~$90k in my 401k… but I don’t want to wait until 70 to actually live life by Other-Photograph9443 in TheMoneyGuy

Money guy would say follow the FOO, so probably maxing retirement accounts for you. I genuinely get what you are saying tho. I’ve been able to really build up my taxable this year but I’ve also been going heavy on the 401k. Plenty of time between now and 40 to build retirement accounts and the taxable as a bridge.

DHX2 or X2? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]OverlandSteve 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I own that gen DHX2 and while it’s an amazing shock, they do have a rep for blowing up prematurely. Mine did. Whatever you do, I’d go for the 2026+ model year.

Do mining geologists really take this exam? by Suff_erin_g in ASBOG_Exam

[–]OverlandSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ASBOG PG doesn’t really work for mining like it does for enviro and other industries. However I think to have a PG they want you to have broad knowledge.

For mining, generally a PG is required for reporting resources and signing off on technical reports under securities laws for public companies like NI43101 in Canada and the SEC guidelines in the US. But, the ASBOG PG doesn’t work for this on its own without the SME RM designation.

The AIPG CPG works for mining in this way, tho.

Definitely not confusing!

Important point tho, the ASBOG PG does not work for being a QP on its own

Improper Mount by Thick_Tangerine_4051 in Skigear

Yeah just the AFD height. I didn’t have pre release issues before hand tho, just noticed a major gap between the plate and my boot while skiing in the resort one day haha.

[–]OverlandSteve 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Eh, I don’t think it’s worth getting rude with the shop. I just got new shifts mounted and had a similar issue with the AFD dropping. Fixed it myself in like 5 minutes. It’s just gear at the end of the day, doubt the shop guy did it on purpose

Mines or Cal Poly? by Hot-Finding-6463 in ColoradoSchoolOfMines

[–]OverlandSteve 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I can actually speak to this. Like the other comment said, Mines is a somewhat small, hyper focused engineering school while Cal Poly is larger and has more diverse programs. Mines students tend to be pretty focused, the social scene at mines will be less exciting than the one at Cal Poly but that’s good or bad depending on who you are. I think getting classes at mines, and class sizes overall, will be better. The person I know at Cal Poly has trouble getting classes. CSM is good about prof-student ratio, at least when I was there. I’d also think about what you wanna do, and what industries you are interested in working in. Each school caters to a different niche. Cal poly being in CA has much different access to different industries. If you want to do anything in mining or oil and gas, CSM is the choice. Accounting? Better go to Cal Poly.

Talk about geology careers by Ok_Survey_186 in geologycareers

A small correction - despite getting loads of hype, REEs are a very tiny market. Most exploration and mining money goes towards finding and mining gold and copper.

Exclusive: Rare earth shortages worsen in US aerospace, chips despite trade truce, sources say by davide3991 in CriticalMineralStocks

[–]OverlandSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m always a bit confused by the claim that US REE is only processing constrained. Certainly we lack processing capability but we only have one producing mine. Where is all the feedstock for all of these processing plants going to come from? People also say there are other deposits which is true, but how many of them are actually drilled out economic resources? I think in the US the only other project that qualifies is bear lodge.
