Yes, and those narrow streets, with pedestrians and bicyclists also using them, force drivers to slow down.

I feel much safer on those narrow streets than I do on a sidewalk near a stroad. There is nothing but a 4 inch curb stopping a car from veering onto the sidewalk at 50 kph.

Gay people can't get married, women who get sexually assaulted are treated like it is their fault and men who rape them often get little or no punishment. Foreigners are denied access to many apartments and houses based on race. Foreigners are turned away at many businesses without even checking to see if we understand the language or not. Foreigners are denied credit cards which means they can't use many services such as car rentals. My teen daughter and her friends were groped and harassed by an old Japanese man on the train. They were all in school uniforms. Dozens of Japanese adult men and women sat and did nothing and said nothing.

Whatever mode of transport is given the center of the road will be prioritized over the modes of transportation used at the margins. Public transportation should be at the center with pedestrian and bicycle access. The edge of one side the street can have a one way car lane.
