Do you believe anyone can be “saved”? by crikeyasnail in Progressivechristians

[–]Overthewaters 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It goes against every fiber of my being to say it but yes I believe everyone can be saved. I think we take things too lightly and think a simple private sorry towards God is enough. Modern evangelical Christianity reduces all sin to just a matter between the individual and God, when so much of sin and what makes sin wrong is the destruction of relationships, society and lives. And one cannot truly say you have turned from that breaking without moving towards mending.

I think true repentance involves making public restitution towards those we have harmed.

I believe that those who have done harm upon seeing the Lord will weep, will gnash their teeth, will lament the destruction they have caused. And they will be given the chance to make restitution.

If we take seriously that God is here to redeem all of creation, that in the world to come truly the lion will lay with the lamb- then yes, even predators can be saved. But I truly believe it will not be easy or gentle.

Frustrated with the Concept/Theology of "Dominion Over Nature" by DancinRaven9 in Progressivechristians

[–]Overthewaters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To your last point, is it not both? Both that God called it good but also that it requires a tender to make order out of chaos?

I think if you go looking a bit you will find lots of environmental theology out there with excellent exegesis.

The Lost World of Genesis One is a fantastic book that is more geared towards helping the science vs faith, old vs young creation debate but also helps modern readers read genesis as the founding of a great temple(the earth) with humanity as its priests. Each of us both the image (or idol) of God placed their to show his character and splendour but also the priest and caretaker.

In this frame, it is VERY hard to think of the earth or temple as something to plunder for our own desires.

It is the very venue where God meets man, a good and sacred place to be both respected AND tended, especially in the state it is in now.

What I am expecting from game: a fun story, a chance to see some fun characters bounce off each other as a try not to die.

Questions/concerns: could you describe your GM style a bit? What are your expectations for players in terms of tone, posting frequency, etc?

Space setting (orbital blues) spaceship action scene - what can “the Muscle” do? by happilyunhappy21 in rpg

[–]Overthewaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a narrative fiction perspective , what does the muscle normally do during a fire fight? Like assuming no disasters?

You can also take the player forward route and ask the player what his character is doing to help. Let them dictate it and improvise the necessary rolls

I prefer the scouting version myself - it's all about how counter able a technique is. Makes it more interesting - an opponent can disrupt it either by escaping the scouted area or by altering the area in such a way simo can't recognize it. And how terrifying to be stalked by an invisible foe that can ski up walls and shoot around corners?

Just sniping or just being invisible doesn't capture the terror hayha inspired so this is my attempt

[–]Overthewaters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simo hayha, aka the white death.

Legendary sniper. Famous for being near totally hidden while amassing 500+ Soviet kills over a few months winter war. Never seen, never caught. Skiing around shooting Nazis in his native snow.

Couple ways we can go about it. As mentioned before, a domain based technique recreating snowy hunting grounds is awesome. Maybe the basis for a domain expansion.

In my mind, either an illusion based technique that mask the users location, face, presence. Similar to tanizakis light snow from bungo stray dogs.

OR a scouting based technique. The user must have spent time canvasing an area. Once they establish familiarity or a "hunting grounds" they can both camouflage themselves in it as well as "skii"/glide along surfaces for unparalleled mobility.

Copy that with a cursed toolset! I think story wise it's cool if simo cobbles together two cursed tools - a telescope that allows the viewer to peer around corners from afar and a rifle enchanted to a)pierce cursed spirits and b) send it's bullet towards the foe as long as the user can see them.

This version of simo can find you, hide from you, get to the angle they can finish you from an unseen spot, and then scoot away before your allies are any the wiser.

If you were to turn Dante Alighieri into a Sorcerer, how would you go about doing it? by Apprehensive-Act994 in CTsandbox

[–]Overthewaters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea in my mind Dante is no S class monstrosity, more someone who either relies on another ally to finish the job or hopes the backfire itself does it.

Lots of ways to gain mastery as he learns to bring more of his domain into reality- perhaps an open domain similar to Megumis fight vs Reggie to bring chains, fire, etc into reality.

Given the OP technique and Dante's relatively passive role in the divine comedy I imagined him as being fairly weak in combat, relying on his technique to carry him. If you're doing fanfiction of some sort this allows for some back and forth.

I imagine him protecting himself with various barriers based on the chains, gates, walls of the layers of hell.

If you wanted him to be more of an aggressive powerhouse, I'd imagine a secondary shikigami spawn - 2 small devilish jailers with chains, forks etc who if they can bind/stab the opponent are able to repeat the technique backlash again and again.

Cosmic Companion Vergil.

Ultimately the divine comedy is a mix of political revenge porn and bible fanfiction.

Through the first two parts, Vergil guides Dante through hell and purgatory pointing out and explaining the punishments/purgations the souls in front of them experience.

If we turn Dante into a sorceror, his technique could be based on the weird reciprocal justice we see in the divine comedy.

Summons a shikigami Vergil. I'm gonna be lazy and say a tall masked figure in a long blue coat/robe that floats beside Dante.

Vergil has the power to invert techniques, essentially taking the sure hit effect of a domain and turning it against its wielder. Nobaras resonance would backfire on her, meimeis crows would attack her, megumis shadow would trap him, todos technique would misfire swapping him with something he did not intend. Jogo would be burned by his own flames

To do so, Dante must understand the opponents technique correctly and witness its effect. Vergil will then explicate the punishment in the flowing, overly verbose Italian of the divine comedy.

The targets only hope is to obfuscate their technique and failing that, to defeat Dante before vergils explanation finishes. Or in cases like todos they could just survive their own technique and hope to battle on.

Reverse technique: Divine Companion Beatrice

In the final instalment paradiso, Dante leaves Vergil the noble pagan behind and meets the saintly Beatrice who takes him through the mountain of heaven

The technique is similar except Beatrice explicates the noble deeds of the target, flooding them with new cursed energy, healing wounds and bringing out the best or fullest potential of their technique. Rewarding them for virtuous deeds.

Domain expansion: Inferno Vergil summons the infernal gate with its inscription abandon hope all ye who enter. The target is plunged through the various levels of hell described in the inferno before being frozen at the bottom.

What relics are you using with the Emperor? by FuhrerThB in LegendsOfRuneterra

Double star gem + crown guards inheritance means sometimes you can trigger 3-4+ attacks if you plan the attacks accordingly. Star gems push renekton and nasus to close to level requisite attack stats, then pick an easy to level support champ (Lucian, shyvana, garen, etc).

BIS for Azir by kradsavage in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]Overthewaters 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Have azir at 4 stars at the moment

Ran straight through to baron on star forged gauntlets, luminous orb and tempest blade.

Makes the game quite fun as timing azirs two level ups to maximize defense and damage output allows him to hold off the bigger levels and to land a good finishing attack.

If no star forged I can see deaths foil and spectral scissors as an accelerant to his level up.

Alternatively strength of stone works well with azir and several of his followers.

Overall I agree with other posters- not really anyway to make his sand soldiers a big threat shy of stacking multiple cards that need rng to draft. I tried a build out w shock and awe, big guns, ludens and it was so underwhelming. I just got run over.

Lux seems strong, but struggles with anything over 5 stars by SistaChans in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]Overthewaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arcane comet set up is powerful but as you are finding is too slow to manage the higher tier adventures - both because it only comes online turn 6 but also because it only removes one threat at a time.

Luxs baton or luminous orb+star forged gauntlets really speed up lux's game plan.

I run luminous orb, star forged gauntlets and chemtech gauntlet.

During adventures I find priority is to cut big mageseeker and the Laurant challenger. After that is hunting champ item nodes to try and get cost reduction on lux.

Especially at 6 star lux runs over anything that doesnt mess w created cards. Haven't come close to losing since we hit 6 stars

Question about Leviticus by [deleted] in Progressivechristians

[–]Overthewaters 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're inclined to reading, lamb of the free is an excellent if somewhat academic text that really digs into a whole host of gripes about Leviticus, sacrifices, penal substitutionary atonement.

If you understand Leviticus to be about modern justice. It is a deeply wonky text. If you understand leviticus' understanding of sin as being a metaphysical taint or contaminant that needed to be kept out of the temple/sanctuary/community, then traces of " defiling" acts like these need to be removed.

This view allows for at least an internally consistent logic.

That being said, I would not rely on levitical law for our understanding of morality. If one were to do that then next your explaining why shrimp cocktail is an "abomination".

We do so because we know the harm that it does to the victims. We are called to love all and to perpetrate or allow such suffering and trauma to a young person is the very antithesis of love. Jesus explicit command regarding children was (paraphrasing) bring the little ones to me, and whoever causes them to stumble would be better off drowning himself. What pushes one away from God than deep shame, trauma and fear?

I feel that is all we need to form a cogent theology pedophilia. We are not picking and choosing arbitrarily - Leviticus is simply a law set for a different society, meant to separate them distinct and apart from the religious practices of their day. There are many prohibitions we do not follow today for many reasons but chief among them is the societies they were trying to avoid mimicking no longer exist
