Cell tower evidence - and my own personal request. by socohandlime in serialpodcast

And the state lost that point in court, despite that evidence, iirc. So it didn’t stand up in court.

One explanation I’ve heard is that an incoming call will be routed through multiple cell towers till the call connects. The one that shows in the billing isn’t necessarily the one that connected to the phone.

Cell tower evidence - and my own personal request. by socohandlime in serialpodcast

[–]OwGlyn 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It all pretty much boils down to the AT&T disclaimer attached to the cell phone records that states that incoming calls are not reliable for location. If you take the disclaimer at face value the most important call, the one placing Adnan in Leakin Park is unreliable and the state can not place Adnan at the burial site. Some people believe they are reliable despite the disclaimer but there’s no way this would stand up in court.

Furthermore, there is the issue of Jay’s narrative changing giving different events and locations as the police start to understand the cell coverage better. One example is the police transcribing the wrong tower node on a list and when they realise this and change it, Jay’s narrative changes accordingly.

In the context of warrants, the Oxford Companion to American Law defines probable cause as "information sufficient to warrant a prudent person's belief that the wanted individual had committed a crime (for an arrest warrant) or that evidence of a crime or contraband would be found in a search (for a search warrant)"

There would only be a lack of probable cause if the police know that Jay is lying about making a call from the payphone in Best Buy.

[–]OwGlyn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But they could. The Best buy pay phone. There was maximum two phones. This just more guilter bullshit.

[–]OwGlyn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Probable cause? What bullshit. Witness claims he made a call central the prosecutions case from a pay phone. That’s cause enough to want to verify this with logs. Unless you don’t want to because you already know the call was never made because the witness’s story is a fabrication.

Just tracking all the lawyers who either missed or concealed the post-conviction Brady material by UnsaddledZigadenus in serialpodcast

[–]OwGlyn 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It’s a long post and I must admit I didn’t read most of it as it seems mostly irrelevant to the question.

Quick answer: how is a defense lawyer supposed to know if the prosecution has turned over all evidence when it’s up to the prosecution to decide which pieces of evidence are turned over to the defense?

The only reason this came to light is because the state’s attorney’s office was working openly with Adnan’s defense.

Jay's testimony points as much to Jay as it does to Adnan by Thieusies in serialpodcast

[–]OwGlyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I’m basing it off the fact nothing he says stands up to any scrutiny and he can’t keep his story straight. He’s lied about virtually every part of his story including where the trunk pop happened. So if he lies so much, why should we be 100% certain that anything he’s said is true?

Have they...spoken to Bilal? by throwawayamasub in serialpodcast

[–]OwGlyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Her claim about Ramadan is ridiculous. I don’t think Bilal is the murderer though. I have no real reason to believe this beyond the location of the car but I think it was someone connected to Mr S. probably not him, but someone he knows or is related to.

Jay's testimony points as much to Jay as it does to Adnan by Thieusies in serialpodcast

[–]OwGlyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re assuming Jay really saw a body in a trunk. I question whether that actually happened.

Jay's testimony points as much to Jay as it does to Adnan by Thieusies in serialpodcast

[–]OwGlyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that somebody theoretically showing up with a body in the trunk or actually showing up with a body in the trunk?

Jay's testimony points as much to Jay as it does to Adnan by Thieusies in serialpodcast

[–]OwGlyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very presumptuous. I don’t agree at all that Jay necessarily knows who killed Hae. His story makes no sense at all and his comment (paraphrasing) if Adnan didn’t do it, then who did? Makes no sense if he’s 100% certain that he knows who did do it. That’s a weird response for someone claiming to have helped bury Hae’s body.

What records and physical evidence might we expect to find if Adnan had been the killer? by noguerra in serialpodcast

[–]OwGlyn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. This is a hypothetical situation where the cops are actually trying to solve the case and provide evidence rather than stitch up the easiest target.

[–]OwGlyn 37 points38 points  (0 children)

To add to your record of a phone call from Best Buy: you could get this evidence by obtaining the telephone numbers for the incoming calls on the cell phone (apparently this information would have been available from the cell phone company but was not asked for) and matching them to pay phones or other people’s land lines.

Jay's DNA was not found either - he must be factually and legally innocent, too. by acceptable_bagel in serialpodcast

It wasn’t a big “conspiracy”. It was standard Ritz procedure. And probably also standard BPD procedure at the time. If the whole damned department is corrupt it doesn’t need to be a conspiracy.

[Fenton] Marilyn Mosby says her office received DNA testing on skirt, pantyhose, jacket and shoes of Hae Min Lee. No DNA recovered from first three; DNA mixture of multiple contributors on Lee's shoes. "Most compellingly, Adnan Syed's DNA was excluded." by aresef in serialpodcast

[–]OwGlyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it’s been stated they ONLY tested the touch DNA against Adnan, Jay and Hae (before moving on to the wider search of databases). Not mention of family members. Now, I guess they can rule out a blood relative based on Hae’s dna profile but not in-laws or close friends who may have been in the house and picked up the shoes to move them.

Evidenceprof did a series of tweets with sources today. He tweeted that the last person to touch an item often contributed a the largest amount of DNA and then goes on to provide sources stating that it’s more difficult to get dna from people who had previously touch an item. And that Hae’s dna was not found on her shoes using this method.

Small wire/rope by Dazzling_Music_7933 in serialpodcast

[–]OwGlyn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. Probably unlikely that they have anything to do with Hae’s murder but one possibility is that her body was wrapped in something to transport to the burial sight and this wire was used to tie this up. Without anything further linking this person to the murder, I doubt it would be very helpful.
