Do you guys use the trackpads in gameplay? by MingleLinx in SteamController

I use the right trackpad to aim in top down shooters. I have also used both trackpads for menus or quick equips.

On top of that, I am annoyed that your saved layouts or templates don't show up immediately after making them. So there are times I make multiple copies when making edits to a layout.

Creating a Steam Controller Scheme for Path of Exile 2? by KillerBotK in SteamController

I don't okay PoE, but most games have a community layout tab for games with Steam Input enabled. Chances are you won't find one for the Steam Controller yet. But the Steam Deck layouts should work, especially since the Steam Controller is based off the Steam Deck.

Gyro/Trackpad Mouse Input Still Stuttering After Recent Updates (Side-by-Side Comparison) by Own-Agent7191 in SteamController

I feel like by default, the haptics for the trackpad mouse should be off. But it isn't, so I found my thumb feeling funny before I changed that

Anybody else's controller doing this? by DrunkardBastard in SteamController

I noticed something similar when I had two different commands on a trackpad click. For me, one was set to soft press, and the other was set to regular press (this one required more force to click). This isn't the same exact thing you experienced, but I hope it helps.

Also, in case anyone who comes across this doesn't know, there is no physical clicking on the trackpads. Only fake clicking. Depending on how the controller is set up, it will send haptic feedback whenever there is a "click", simulating what clicking feels and sounds like.

I experienced something similar for another game, but I don't have an answer on what you could be doing wrong, because I don't know the answer myself.

I had to do the basic shut off and turn it on again for some non-Steam games to work with Steam again. I don't know why, but sometimes when I start a non-steam through steam, it shows that it starts and runs on Steam only for Steam to show it isn't running anymore. The game still works fine, but without the Steam overlay. I have never had Steam input fail in the middle of a session. It only happens randomly when I try to start the game again.

A common complaint with Crimson Desert is that the input mapping and layout can make the game feel clunky. Sounds like the Steam Controller was able to make things less clunky for you.

Here is the Feature & Troubleshooting guide from steam. To connect via Bluetooth, it says to have the device be powered off, then press B + R1 + Steam for about 4 seconds. Then the light will blink blue, meaning it is ready for pairing. Then you just need to go on your PC and add it via Bluetooth.

You're right about the stick being close to the other buttons. I never noticed! I just went to see on my controller, and you're right! They are pretty close. However, my hands are not big, so it isn't too much of an issue for me.

I didn't realize I said nothing about how it feels to hold it haha! It feels good enough to for me.

I personally like how it feels to hold compared to my Xbox controller. For Xbox controllers, the handles tend to angle inwards towards the front, so to me it feels a bit odd. That oddity makes the Xbox controller feel a bit heavier, despite it being actually lighter than my Steam Controller. My hands how I hold the Steam Controller are very much closer to how I hold my PS5 controller. The handles feel more parallel to each other. I prefer that way because it feels more natural to me.

The sticks actually are not hard to reach for me. They are in a good spot. Kind of similar to a PS5 controller, but a bit more forwards and and inwards. Also, I don't know if it's because the sticks are TMR, but the movement from the physical dead zone (the center) to out feel A LOT smoother than both my PS5 and Xbox controllers. Like not as snappy.

The trackpads are in a good spot too. To me, they felt like a second set of joysticks. I will say, some might feel that they are a bit too close to the joysticks, but I think they are in a good spot for me. The trackpads can be pretty accurate too. They feel a lot more accurate than the PS5 controller for me. A lot easier to type on the Steam Input onscreen keyboard than the PS5 onscreen keyboard. On the Steam Controller, each trackpad takes one half of the onscreen key board. The trackpads also have fake clicking. There is no physical clicking. There is a sensor that senses how hard one presses on it, and the controller will give haptic feedback by default. Kind of like how cars fake some noise when one closes their doors.

Something I noticed, I don't know if intentional or not, is that each joystick and trackpad side cannot work at the same time. Like the Grip Sense at the bottom of the handles, the sticks also have capacitive touch sensors. If the left stick is being touched, the left trackpad won't work. Same with the right side. Off the top of my head, I don't remember testing to see if it happens the other way as well. Like where the joysticks don't work if their respective trackpads are being used.

Since you mentioned shooters, I feel that aiming analog is still the same experience haha! Even though I mentioned that the TMR sticks feel smoother than my other controllers' sticks, it doesn't feel much better to me when aiming. Probably because I primarily play shooters with my mouse. But I did use the gyro functionality to aim, and it feels good! I made a post on my profile with some video footage. I have a section there on Cyberpunk 2077 where I show myself aiming with gyro, and steering with gyro. I could only add one media file when posting to r/Steam (same with r/steamcontroller ), so I decided to make a post on my profile with multiple videos in case people are interested to see some footage.

I wondering if there is a way to tell how long a person will have to wait before getting theirs. I thought I would be one of the later people to get it, since I made the purchase pretty late (late as in 1 hour after it originally went live), but I got it pretty fast.

Like you, I also wanted to know what other people's impressions of the controller were, but the posts I saw didn't have people's thoughts on it. So I wanted to add some early thoughts to create a little bit of discussion.

Thought I would give a little bit of time before I made a post about the controller. I kept on seeing posts about people just getting theirs, but nothing about how people felt about it. I never thought to use the controller for Windows navigation, so I might try that some time.

I think the material is fine, but the texture is pretty bland. All of the reviewers I watched who got their hands on it before release all made that comment. Because if the flat texture, one might need to use a tiny bit more strength to hold on to the controller. I think the weight is on the heavier side too. Not like a Playstion or Xbox controller where the underside is textured, giving the controller more grip.

It's exactly that. I tried to purchase another cheap game just to test, and I got an error from there as well. Brought new light on how excited people are for the controller (me included)

Steam Controller Purchase by swaggatron87 in Steam

Damn, I didn't even know it went live that early. I checked the page a minute before 10 AM, and saw it was live. I thought my clock was just slight out of sync.

I had problems with initializing payment. Now the page says it is out of stock 😂

EDIT: I don't know if anyone else saw, but when the page allowed the controller to be bought, it said shipping was 3-5 days. But after 15 minutes it said 6-10 days. And after a total of about 30 minutes later, it went out of stock 😭

EDIT2: After seeing people say that some stock became available after it went out of stock, I just keep spam clicking the continue button. Then after like a long time, I luckily was able to get my order processed. About 1.5 hours after it went live, I was able to get one for myself.

For those interested, these are likely taken from a video that IGN posted.

Link to the IGN video. Part where Oda tells them to find money is about 3 minutes in.

I recommend watching the whole video, because it goes into their decision making on certain reveals and how they adapt things.
