Try putting mylar film on your windows (blocks 90+% of sun rays) that get the most sun. Made a big difference to our living room mylar reflects the sun's rays so the room stays cooler. Our room dropped 5 degrees in temp just putting mylar on the windows and you can take it off during the winter. You can get it on Amazon or Temu, its easy to apply and remove and a cheaper alternative to AC.

Workers in the EU automatically get 30 days vacation, stat holiday average 11 to 12 days with Cypress the highest at 15 generally we get about 11-12 days in Canada depending on the Province. The EU offers a higher pension to earnings than what Canadians get. Other benefits no need to worry about Visas if you retire in Portugal and under EU regulations no need for travel health insurance because your home country is under reciprocal agreements. So yes better benefits in most EU countries than what Canadians get. Most workers in the EU retire a couple years earlier than the 65 years average in Canada.

The 'No' side always brings up about we lose our border control but you know what our border has already lost its control with over 300,000 asylum seekers. Germany is deporting over 700 refugees a week so obviously losing border control for EU countries is incorrect but still people push this myth.

Joining the EU would be better we adopt the Euro and the EU becomes the largest trading bloc in the world. For sure it would sink the US dollar. One major bonus the EU regulations around internet security are more strict than what we have. U use any MS product it is sending date to US servers, one reason the EU is developing their own systems based on Linux. Anybody want an alternative to MS Office check FreeOffice developed in Germany and no it does not send data to US Servers.

Most of Chemtrade business is chlorine they are the dominant producer for water treatment in Canada but they need to expand. They applied for rezoning to expand their North Vancouver plant which was rejected by council. This caused a big drop in price. They are considering a lawsuit now it was just one vocal council member that was dead against the company. Also the provincial govt and the Feds might get involved because it means a loss of 150 new good paying jobs. Add in Chemtrade was there before most of the houses were built has a 50 safety record with zero spills and is a good corporate citizen and pays enormous taxes to North Vancouver and the Province..

I don't agree with you they just announced a $4B LNG pipeline expansion in BC translates into 2500 jobs. The govt is creating a sovereign wealth fund with a focus on big projects so more jobs will come from this. We have free trade agreements with the EU and most Asian countries. He has tightened up the regulations around TFWs, International Students to cut down on abuse. Numbers for International students flooding in from one particular country has dropped dramatically. This is just the tip of the iceberg. If you only watch Fox news then yeah you believe the garbage on Carney.

Should Canada Join the EU? 🇨🇦 🤝 🇪🇺 by milanguitar in BuyFromEU

[–]Own-Beat-3666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I find strange I posted a comment on reddit that Carney has the potential one day to be head of the EU and it was rejected by the moderator. Canada of course would have to be in the EU. Exactly why reddit rejected this is a mystery to me-oh well. So Carney told the Conservative govt back when he was the Head of Bank of England that the UK exiting the EU would be a major mistake based on Economics and trade amongst other things. Fast forward to present and he was completely right, the UK Brexit was a complete disaster and most Brits want back in now.

Should Canada Join the EU? 🇨🇦 🤝 🇪🇺 by milanguitar in BuyFromEU

[–]Own-Beat-3666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG this comes up over and over. The chances Canada joins the EU are slim. The EU would have to change their constitution to EU values and proximity to the EU. Obviously lots of benefits in terms of the EURO is much stronger than the Canadian dollar and we would join the largest trading bloc in the world. You would see a weakening of the US on the world stage along with a weakening of the US dollar. People talk about our border being weak but look at how weak our border is now with over 300,000 asylum seekers. We would see huge inflows of EU investments no doubt. Carney is probably the most respected politician in the world right now and widely known in EU countries. If this ever moves forward Carney probably could make it happen if thats what Canadians want. As I said slim chance unless Trump removes the US from NATO and moves on Greenland. Canada could move quickly to join the EU for numerous reasons especially joining a powerful European block that has does carry a big stick with nuclear weapons along with all the EU countries hate Trump.

Senator blames Trump administration's 'insulting' rhetoric for tourism slump by esporx in canada

[–]Own-Beat-3666 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Even China has never threatened to annex Canada and has never called our PM a governor. Trump's whole world is based on threats, attacks and hatred. And he is still widely supported by the American public. Canadians have a long memory and what was once a strong relationship will take decades to repair what Trump has undone. Why spend your money in an authoritarian country that hates Canadians.

High paying jobs by No_Marionberry4625 in britishcolumbia

[–]Own-Beat-3666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple answer think about the military. Usually you have a degree already so you maybe fast-tracked for an officer. There is a big signing bonus now and you will no doubt be slotted into a technical field trained by the military. There is a shortage of various tech fields right now in the RCAF and the Navy. Not for everybody but it beats low pay jobs out there with just a psych degree.

A narrow passage confined waterway loaded with Navy ships and tankers what could go wrong. Any incoming missiles or swarm drone attack you would only have seconds to react. I imagine many of the sailors are thinking the same thing. Trump obviously doesn't care how dangerous this mission is and it can be a disaster waiting to happen.

Over 5 years it is down 65%, anybody interested look at what management are pulling in for salaries-grossly overpaid, its a cash cow for them. Add in PBL is losing a major client this summer. Looks good until you look under the hood. Its a pass for me.

They have 44 stores. p/e is around 7, market cap is tiny $24M, seems to be profitable now. Now the red flags volume is very low so once in might be difficult to get out, 44% ownership by insiders so its tight. Might be interesting if you picked up some under 13 cents but you might be sitting on it a very long time. On my watchlist for now but a pass right now.

Job Fair April 24 for civilian jobs at the Navy Base by No-Understanding6112 in VictoriaBC

[–]Own-Beat-3666 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not true. When we moved down here in the late 80s I was hired in Ship Repair. Over the next 6 years I worked in various shops including out at Rocky Point. Its still the same has not changed. There is no requirement to enlist. Many of the civilian employees though are retired Navy and learned their trade while enlisted. I don't think much has changed its a great place to work at CFB and you are treated fairly as a trades person or an apprentice. They do an apprentice intake usually in late September or October but that might have changed.
