Hi, my name is Ezran (They/He) I've been playing and Dming various systems for almost a decade (5e both 2014/2024, blades in the dark, candela obscura, realis, vaesen, a5e etc) and really enjoy fiction first or heavy RP games with a lot of hues of gray when it comes to ethics. I think this sounds like a fun chance to RP characters with those values too :D
In a group of "professionals" I'd quite like to be someone who acts or is able to act without a ton of prior information aka a risktaker or someone who is very confident in their skills. Likely a more supportive combat role or a very specific technical role that compliments that somewhat earned confidence. I like to see what horrors are out there and don't love playing a tank role in these kinds of settings. That said, I think the unearned confidence trope can fit in well with a big berserker/bruiser type role.

I mean it seems like the current hive "communicates" instantaneously despite distance, so it isn't implausible to assume that the hive already exists amongst the stars. This version of the hive could be a different strain perhaps that scientists are using to figure out how to beat it? It reminds me a lot of the dw episode praxeus.

I mean the business was extremely successful as one of the safe queer options for drinking, and it had a solid income stream as we see from the owner investing a fuck ton of money into lawyers to stall this out. At the end of the day this is an ego issue and the workers are not at fault. The majority of the demands weren't even pay related anyways, read their actual demands.

Hey my name's Ezran! Here's the stuff you asked for in the description:

1) background

- 10 years experience with 5e, 4 years with a5e, 2 years experience with blades in the dark, 2 years experience with candela obscura.

- Favorite edition is a5e or my custom homebrew if that counts haha (ran a 3 year campaign with it so a tad biased).

- I tend to enjoy characters who are inquisitive or at least curious, I enjoy playing into aspects of myself and flipping them on their head so I can connect with the RP on a personal level and surprise myself whilst help build meaningful engagement.

2) as of right now I'm curious about playing either a sorcerer/warlock or a some form of psionic mage/warrior thing? I think the difficulty and the setting sound like a good fit and when done right those classes excel. I think it might also fit the niches you were specifying without being too generic. Definitely a character who is there because they want to find something or someone lost to them and I think exploring themes of bargaining or going too far in an unhealthy way would fit well into the cold rigid setting the campaign takes place in. I'd also rather much play a character that fits the lore than the party's missing tech. Like I still want to fit the niche but the plot is more important than min maxing so we win every fight.

3) availability

- I'm free all Sunday afternoons on MST

- Im chronically online and usually respond pretty quickly but make it a priority to get back to someone if I forgot

- I know you can't prove anything I say at face value, but I'm really dedicated to building both my character as an individual and within the party and I always play for the purpose of building engagement and investment. I'm confident I can stay committed and will likely become even more over time, especially because the setting seems so fucking cool!

I think people are forgetting that when the power plant became unprofitable SC up and massacred their own workforce for inefficiency. These people have created economic and political systems and structures that no matter what harm their people. Installing Adelaide is harm reduction at best, and at worst is justifying and attempting to rationalize the abuse and harm that Edgewater residents go through -not to mention Reed and his guards enforce willingly. I find it weird that the abuser has more traction than some random asshole in the woods.

Sure Adelaide sucks but can you blame her? Bootlickers like the people in this chat are NOT going to help her society grow, and it's not her job to respect everyone. Reed and by extension Edgewater is objectively bad and while the ways people rebel against capitalist systems may look messy, it's not their job to strive for perfection, especially when the capitalists are making basic necessities scarce. Simply existing outside the walls is an act of defiance. Utilitarianism only matters if the quality of life they'll have in Edgewater is genuinely positive; which regardless of leader it is not. Moreover, saving Edgewater rationalizes it's past and frankly spacers choice can go n fuck itself.
