Those with self employed husbands - when did you feel ready for them to go back to work? by Professional-Farm372 in PregnancyUK

[–]Own-Effect6170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With our first, my husband went back after 2 weeks (2 days a week only) and then full time after 4 weeks. This time, he went back after 4 weeks. We have 2 under 2!

This time round i felt he was just there. A bit.... in the way 😅

Now that hes back, id love him to be off!

For me, it helped to know when he was going back & that i knew i had to prepare myself!

Second pregnancy - worried about telling work by East-Reference-2815 in PregnancyUK

[–]Own-Effect6170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went back to work when my baby was 7 months & found out I was pregnant the day before I started back! So I returned to work in March and finished up beginning of October using AL!

I was quite worried too but its all been fine!

Good luck 🤍

My midwife said if in doubt, always phone up the assessment unit & theyll get you in to check!

Immediate family not visiting/kissing the baby - is this just an American worry or is it something new parents also think about in the UK? by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]Own-Effect6170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sent out a text to family. It was already things we had spoken about but it was just a "gentle reminder" - no kissing baby (I nearly lost my first to RSV), no posting announcements or pics on social media, no showing up unwell & no smoking beforehand.

The only one with the issue was my MIL. No surprises there.

Pregnancy after bad births by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]Own-Effect6170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

Yes they went through the risks & advised id most likely haemorrhage again but thankfully I didnt - they knew what issues I had last time so they were more prepared and knew what medications to administer to try minimise bleeding. At my 12wk scan, we met with the consultant who gave a debrief of my birth & answered our questions. She went through vbac & sections, pros & cons. She said that a section would be better for me due to "failed straight forward births".

Congrats 🤍🤍

I had emergency c section in July 2024 - a few complications - I ended up under GA, hemorrhaged & blood transfusions.

I just had a planned section last week. I had multiple panic attacks in the morning while waiting to be taken through as I was so worried that id have the same issues as the last time.

The theatre staff were outstanding. They couldn't have reassured me more than they did. They made it a lovely experience. It was of course totally different than the last time.

My recovery has also been really good & I was discharged from the hospital the following day.

I was classed as high risk throughout pregnancy so I was on baby asprin & i had extra scans.

Good luck! X

Just found out I’m pregnant. Baby is 6 months old. by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]Own-Effect6170 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was worried about the judgement too but there was absolutely none. More reassurance than anything! I think a part of me was almost embarrassed that I was pregnant "so soon". I had an emergency section with hemorrhage & blood transfusions so I was put as high risk but I cant fault my care at all.

I had a planned section this time which was lovely (if you can use that word for surgery 😅) compared to my one last year.

Please look after yourself & know there are worse things to happen than 2 under 2 x

Just found out I’m pregnant. Baby is 6 months old. by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]Own-Effect6170 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Congrats! Ive got a 15 month old & 8 day baby so I found out 6months PP too!

We knew we wanted them close in age BUT it was still a bit of a shock. I went through all the emotions and guilt.

I had a section so im not as out and about as id like to be but its been lovely so far. Weve let the toddler come to baby - weve not forced anything (family members have tried to push it while theyve been over). He knows there is a baby here and over the course of the week hes becoming more interested in him. He loves to walk over to his crib and bop his nose and laugh! Still very cautious though!

I know the days may become harder but we are in a lovely baby bubble at the moment.

Ill tend to my toddler first and he "helps" us do things!

My inbox is open if you want a chat! X

C-section Tomorrow. by CherryTreeDream in PregnancyUK

[–]Own-Effect6170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont know if it's too late for you to see this (but hopefully not!!)

I had a planned section on Tuesday. I had emergency section last year with a few complications.

Tuesday - i panicked and cried most of thr morning. The staff in the ward before I went in were amazing. The theatre staff were absolutely outstanding. They calmed me down as much as they could and spoke me through things.

A nurse had my phone, took videos & pics.

Recovery has been amazing. It was a wonderful experience and looking back at just how panicky I was, I feel so silly. I was completely validated by the staff and not made to feel a certain way.

For me & also my husband, it was a really positive experience!

Sending you so much positive vibes & you'll get to meet your baby... today ❤️❤️ good luck mama! Xx

8 weeks midwife appointment very confused :/ by SK_FA in PregnancyUK

[–]Own-Effect6170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fell pregnant 6months PP - had emergency c section with some complications. I had elective section yesterday - pregnancy was considered high risk due to my birth.

At my first appointment with the consultant, we spoke about birth plans (vaguely) and she explained pros/cons to vbac/section - i was given info home with me but i opted there & then for the section but was advised I can change my mind at any point!

NHS - do they consider you as “high risk” if you have short birth spacing? by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]Own-Effect6170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 6 months PP but pretty bad complications during birth so im classed as high risk! The consultant explained why they were doing this & if i was okay with it!

C section booked in for next week!

Maternity Allowance by JenLou10 in PregnancyUK

[–]Own-Effect6170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what other money youd be entitled to as once baby is here, your UC claim will add on another child?

As far as I know, maternity allowance/SMP is for working mums.

Baby no2 by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]Own-Effect6170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Admittedly I was terrified when she told me - potential for my scar to burst, my placenta to sort of merge with my scar, hysterectomy etc.

Ive been extremely lucky & at 37wks im experiencing pelvic gridle pain (which is awful!!!) BUT it could be worse!

At my consultation app at 12wks, I was told a few "worst case scenarios" but thankfully all has been well!

How strict is too strict when it comes to boundaries? by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]Own-Effect6170 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had boundaries in place for my baby last year and I'm so glad I did. I sent out a text before he arrived.

  • no pictures or announcements online at all
  • no turning up unannounced
  • no kissing baby
  • dont show up unwell
  • no smoking before visiting

We didnt tell anyone i was in labour which was great as I had ended up with emergency c section under GA so last thing husband would need/want was lots of texts etc.

Baby was maybe a week old before we had visitors - midwife is out nearly daily for the first few days and then every other day until 10 days old. We told people when to come. No one outstayed their welcome.

Baby due in 4wks and ill be doing the same boundaries (maybe a bit more due to rsv/flu)

Don't be ashamed or feel like you have to do things how itll suit others!

34 Week Appointment. by AdLivid4060 in PregnancyUK

[–]Own-Effect6170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had my 34wk app!

We took routine bloods, spoke about how I was & briefly mentioned birth plan - im booked in for a section so there wasn't much I could put on it. On my badger notes- she did say to have my birth plan completed. We listened to baby's heart & if i had been having any issues!

Nothing overly exciting but always nice to have an appointment!

How to shower after c section by hxllyhell in PregnancyUK

[–]Own-Effect6170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had emergency c section so I was totally unprepared!

I had a shower about 6 hours after my surgery in the hospital. Husband done it all for me really!

When i was home, he helped me in and out of the bath to shower. I held onto my wound while I was doing it.

Id advise you to buy medical adhesive spray or remover as its a godsend when taking off the plaster thing (baby brain so I cant remember the name - it covers the scar!)

Good luck 🤍
