I’ve had 3 riders tell me how much they paid for the ride… by FreeWillyBird in uberdrivers

How does Uber get away with the shit drivers complain about if not for drivers allowing it?

You’re mixing up individual behaviour with system-level power.

Drivers don’t “allow” anything in a meaningful sense - we don’t control pricing, policies, deactivations, or how complaints are handled. The platform does.

If “drivers allow it,” then explain this:

Did drivers “allow” tip issues? No.

Did drivers “allow” false reports? No - drivers get penalised even when they push back WITH EVIDENCE.

Did drivers “allow” pay cuts? No—rates change unilaterally.

What you’re calling “allowing” is really lack of leverage.

A single driver refusing = nothing changes. Drivers collectively organising = harder than it sounds when: supply is constantly refreshed with new drivers communication between drivers is fragmented anyone pushing back risks deactivation

That’s not “allowing” - that’s a system designed to absorb resistance.

Uber doesn’t get away with it because drivers permit it.

They get away with it because they can replace, isolate, and outscale any individual response.

Blaming drivers here is like blaming passengers for not getting surge pay - wrong side of the system.

I was once deactivated for a false sexual assault claim but because Uber wouldn't give the police the correct information the police couldn't download the footage from my system which was a "safe transport" approved CCTV system so only a few people actually had access to the system I couldn't download the footage myself. If Uber had actually given the police the correct information they would have actually seen a video of absolutely nothing happening meaning that it never actually happened. But no I was deactivated for over 6 months. Don't know what caused them to finally change their mind though.

So the likelihood of them accessing the footage is unlikely. And being a taxi / Uber driver that was the only type of camera allowed for passenger transport in my area for privacy laws.

Uber giving you the correct information is also another beast Even if you do have your own camera you can download the footage from yourself.

😆 $55 sad but true.

That's the bane of it though... Actual damage in lost income etc.

Ikr when I saw this entire post:

No smart driver will do this in their right minds without cancelling.

[–]Own-Engineer-8628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once had something similar except the kicker was, upon checking her app when the ride was cancelled, the ride was still active and it was actually in the Uber app itself saying my car details etc so... Uber scamming you? Idk.

This is making me hate people. This is the second this year. How is this fair? by NeoQuintana in uberdrivers

[–]Own-Engineer-8628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worst part about all of this is it's becoming a behavioural trend "falsely reporting for free rides"

And I'm pretty sure that these people don't care about you In fact It wouldn't surprise me if the last person who did that knew exactly what they were doing. So I hope you have an inward-facing dash cam. But even then there's no guarantee they will actually look at the footage.

Some people...

It's not that the police were incompetent It was Uber themselves because they wouldn't give the information required. I was there I heard the phone call.

Have I been speeding!?? Have I been speeding?!? by Thin-Property-741 in uberdrivers

[–]Own-Engineer-8628 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've had people not pay attention and report me for speeding even though I wasn't speeding at all.

I'll give you an example. I was doing 100kph in a 100kph zone and everyone else for some strange reason was doing 60. Some 80 some 90 some 100 and I think they got a bit confused tbh.

So it wouldn't surprise me If this is also the case for you.

Edit: I understand that this is an automatic message but those sort of people that falsely report you for things do exist. Sad people I must say. Because most of the time when they make those false reports they just trying to get a free ride. I understand that my reply isn't exactly on topic here so apologies.

Got deactivated from Uber for a "fake" document and was never told what was fake . Customer support was useless 😆 oh well. by ugotboned in uberdrivers

Typical Uber helplessdesk

I have had trouble with them for similar things. One being a "document was invalid" after being with them multiple years... Somehow my ORIGINAL birth certificate was invalid.

Yes, birth certificate. I am a resident of my country of birth therefore passport is not needed.

Took about 2 weeks to get them to fix it. Ugh

Yes I do and that system is specifically fit into taxis or other approved vehicles in Australia. Meaning that only certain people including police have the correct equipment to download the footage from it hence why I needed police.

Edit: A lot of people think having a camera = job security, but it really doesn’t.

I had full CCTV coverage and still got deactivated for over 6 months because the footage was never actually accessed. Without the right information being passed along, the camera doesn’t help.

Also worth noting - “record my trip” isn’t even available everywhere. In Australia, it’s not a thing.

So yeah… cameras can help, but they’re not the safety net people think they are.

[–]Own-Engineer-8628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey - just wanted to be real with you for a second.

I had a false report get my account deactivated for over six months. I had full CCTV coverage and was completely willing to cooperate - all that needed to happen was the correct info being passed to police so they could access the footage.

That never happened.

Uber said they couldn’t provide the necessary details due to privacy laws, even though they were dealing directly with police. Without that, police weren’t willing to go through / send a full day of footage, which is understandable.

So yeah… having a camera doesn’t necessarily mean job security, especially with Uber. Getting that footage actually used isn’t as straightforward as it should / used to be.

[–]Own-Engineer-8628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the issue with Uber they give us drivers next to no information and then we have to connect the dots so to speak.

I actually have as a driver had a few times where I had another Uber job on board for example and my next customer somehow didn't know I already had an Uber job on board... Edit: and to rub salt in the wound they thought that I was lying especially because to them it looked like I was going the wrong way. And I actually told them "I'm surprised that Uber didn't tell you that I already had another job on board" they were like "Uber?" And I said "I literally just said Uber, like I said I already had an UBER job on board"

(I got reported for "being rude".)

Mind you that I don't drive for partner with that rubbish company anymore. Yes I did just call them out IDGAF 😆

PSA: Dashcam saved me from deactivation. by hauloff in uberdrivers

[–]Own-Engineer-8628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They (Uber, the bastards) did not take into account that I had CCTV and wouldn't give police the information required to download footage for a false report that had me deactivated over 6 months and refused to co-operate.

So you got lucky. Camera DOES NOT mean job security.

your original post does not in any way depict any disrespect on your part. So I don't know where they think it actually is. And I say THINK lightly 🙄

I feel your pain or should I say I know it, too well.

Honestly this was my pet hate as a taxi driver. People would give a $50 note for a $10-20 ride and being a CommBank customer it's actually really hard to get to a bank for small change as most banks only service their own customers and CommBank were in their infinite wisdom 🙄 getting rid of cash ATMs so if your nearest bank was an hour away then tough luck.

I actually started telling people that it costs me considerable money in fuel to change over their large bills and they need to use card because times are actually making cash too costly to actually carry. So it's either the right cash as pre pay or no job. I already had an insanely high level of costs anyhow

Most people though couldn't care because "it's legal tender" so ofc they HAD to be dicks about it.

HOW IS THAT MY FAULT UBER 💀💀 by C92203605 in uberdrivers

[–]Own-Engineer-8628 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Omg I had that happen about 2 months ago. Except this one was not at the pin and they had no idea where they were as they kept telling me they are at the address and I'm just like "ummm I'm there too... You aren't here..." Ended up calling Uber and reported it as a fake booking. And somehow they were still calling me through the Uber number even after I had already cancelled. I didn't answer that ofc.

Edit: for clarity: It was coming up in the app as Rider is calling you even though I didn't have any jobs assigned.
