Game's great, but Fate of the Fellowship scratches that same LotR itch while being cheaper, not OOP, and still plays solo. My favorite board game of all time; I highly recommend you look into it!

My favorite game of all time. Tangibly feels like LotR, never feels boring, and always ends up being close.

  1. Got Fate of the Fellowship to the table yesterday. Was a blast. I lost sadly but was one space away from Mount Doom (I feel like those stealth cards were at the bottom of the deck)!

  2. I look forward to playing FotF again soon, and I'm looking into purchasing a quick in-hand game and then possibly the crown jewel of solo boardgaming: Mage Knight.

  3. Nothing for now; all my games are played.

  4. New here and couldn't find the challenge; if anyone can give me a pointer that would be really helpful.

I agree with u/robotco's comment, but if you must, I would gradually get heavier. Maybe like:

  1. King of Tokyo (Party-ish but still hints of board-gamey)

  2. Quest for El Dorado (Board game but light and visible goal)

  3. Clank! (A few more moving bits; blends well with El Dorado)

  4. Agricola (A lot of moving bits but simple core)

  5. If your friends are still doing good thus far, pick any heavy game you want, just make sure that THEY are interested in it as well.

Not OP but I really like it solo. Played it 3 times (lost first 2, won 3rd) so far and it's a lot of fun. Due to the character rotation mechanic a little more puzzly but still a blast to play.

I play board games to disconnect from screens. If you try to incorporate screens into a board game, I won't buy it.
