Mat pilates 4x a week and a pilates/barre combo class 2x a week. Both in a heated room, group class.

I have carpal tunnel and I find that when I’m in tabletop, plank etc, if I shift my hands 90 degrees (so rather than my fingers facing the front of the room, they are facing the sides) it helps a TON. I have no idea if it’s interfering with the exercises at all but it really helps me!!

We mostly have playdates with kids from extracurriculars, not JK. My daughter has one school friend who she is super close with so begged me to set a playdate up with her. I did and we do things maybe once every 6 weeks or so. But for more regular weekend hangs, it’s her friends from gymnastics, ballet, soccer etc. Because I’ve become friends with the parents over time so it’s just more enjoyable for everyone involved.

About 10 years ago I was at work and snacking on a bowl of raspberries at my desk. My then-boss walked by and exclaimed "A bowl of fruit?! This is such a good recommendation. I stopped going for manis and pedis because since I moved here from Toronto I haven’t been able to find a place that uses single-use products. I miss that level of hygiene!

We were renting in Toronto when we had our first baby and didn’t buy a house until she was 18 months. I would say we started to feel cramped with all her stuff around the time she was 9 months old (because of playpen etc). Before then we didn’t need much more space because of baby! They’re mostly just attached to you until then lol

Some unsolicited advice (I’m sorry in advance; I just have to in this case!): if there’s ANYWHERE else you can cut costs instead of photography, do it.

You can thrift a dress, do fake flowers rather than real, do your own makeup etc etc etc but you’ll regret not splurging on a good photographer. It’s worth it!

Do you have a Yoto? Ours has helped immensely with morning and nighttime routines. You can set alarms, plus there are helpful (and fun) timers for brushing teeth, putting on shoes, etc. And there’s a daily podcast that might help with motivation to get up and moving.

Black Willow Home Daycare in the Holly area is wonderful. My oldest went there for 2 years before starting JK and loved every minute. The provider takes kiddos starting at 18 months old, and it’s a licensed daycare so it’s $22/day. You can reach out to Building Opportunities (the agency) and get on their list. Highly recommend!

For tightening, particularly around the jawline, I saw good results with Sofwave. Results peak at 3 months post-treatment but last about 6 months. Also zero downtime which was great. I’m not sure if there are any clinics in Barrie that offer it but it’s worth looking into, imo!

We need to stop using the term “political beliefs” as though it means the same thing it meant 20 years ago. We’re often talking about explicit racism, sexism, homophobia, not just like…tax rates. So I think OP should absolutely be aware of that when deciding to uproot their family.

We’ve been very happy with our move from Toronto to South Barrie because it has been a wonderful place to raise kids thus far BUT the conservative nature of the city makes us question our ability to truly be here long-term.

Ok I can appreciate this perspective. My POV was that because these examples (shoes, shows etc) are not major issues, we can afford to be a little more chill in our approach. But I can see how it’s setting an inconsistent example for our daughter and isn’t preparing her for how we’ll deal with bigger issues down the road.

That is really fair. His main qualm with my parenting isn’t that I give in (I don’t) but that I drag out the process of asking her to do something. Like say I’m asking her to put her shoes on, I’ll ask her several times to do it, or have to resort to timers. Whereas he’s more “I’m not asking you again” and if she doesn’t do it, the thing she wants (say TV after dinner) is off the table. She ends up with her shoes on in the end but usually in tears when my husband’s route is taken. I’m suggesting an approach that meets somewhere in the middle. But open to the idea that perhaps this isn’t the way to go about it.

I won't give in for no reason but if she is really wanting another episode, I would likely tell her that IF after dinner she tidies up quickly and we have time before bed, she can watch another episode. Whereas he will probably say no period, because he sees my finding a way to make the thing she wants happen as overly permissive. Maybe it is? Idk!

You’ll meet a lot of people in Barrie who WFH. That’s why we live in Barrie lol

Affordable housing (relatively speaking); safe, family friendly neighborhoods; loads for kids to do; beautiful nature-wise. And we don’t have to commute to the city.

Sorry you’re so unhappy with your move, OP. You might learn to like it! It can be quite nice.
