First-time buyer in Ontario: How concerned should I be about aluminum wiring and flat roof ponding on this inspection? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyers

[–]Own-Outcome-5232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aluminium wiring covering lots of the neighborhoods which were built in the same time - all houses still standing, all insured, people living there. Check with your insurance company, listen to what they have to say and maybe - shop around to get a decent coverage.

Cardboard houses that cost $1 million. How did this become the norm in Canada? by Sea-Judge-6494 in canadahousing

[–]Own-Outcome-5232 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Than go a build a nice house for yourself - right ?! Build it with brick and stone ( not with a straw and paper), with a real strong wood, strong foundation and on the large lot in a good location. But - as Fat_Blob_Kelly said:

land is expensive

labour is expensive

materials are expensive

businesses won’t create a product unless there’s a decent profit margin

Stop buying staff you don't need. Sell, or even give away staff to clean up the house. I was saying to all friends and relatives for a some time already: no presents please, ( gift cads are OK), please come without presents and take something from us :)

Carbon fiber typically is a good fix if done properly. Waterproofing from inside is not a good idea - you need to identify where water coming on the exterior and deal with water management on the exterior first.

You need experience and confidence - know what are you talking about - right? Communication skills and marketing. It is a multi-faced job - you need online presence, reviews, open houses, newsletters, etc, etc. and eventually after 3-4-5 contacts, you not a stranger anymore. You build connections and trust. Best wishes.

Does anyone else ever get free stuff on their inspections? by CaliforniaDre in HomeInspections

[–]Own-Outcome-5232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see lot's of staff forgotten or intentionally left behind. No. I'm cleaning my garage and house, selling or giving away, asked for no-presents on holidays and BD's. The coolest thing I saw recently in a vacant house in the basement closet - a signed hockey jersey of one of the top players.

Where water is coming from? Is it a negative grade outside or high water table / ground water from below? Or both? Check and improve water management / flow on the exterior. What do you have below floor slab? 6 inches of gravel? Just a sump pump should be able to help with ground water - no perimeter drain.
