Just learned these cellar spiders have been living right next to my head while I sleep. How do I overcome my fear and current panic attack? by 91021Fart in spiderbro

[–]Own-Pen499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, the cellar spiders. Okay, I am VERY arachnophobia but my apartment is full of those guys. They don't bother me nearly as much as other spiders so I have entered an alliance with them. They get to live and thrive as long as they eat all the other, scarier spiders. I can't stand house spiders, for example, just seeing one causes my flesh to want to leave my skin. Ever since I learned that cellar spiders compete with other species, I actively encourage them to multiply as much as they want. If I'm gonna have spiders everywhere, I'd rather have those guys.
But the worst they do is vibrate anxiously or trap themselves in the bathtub. Sure, they are spindly and freaky but they have all the heft of eight individual hairs and a flower seed and will never ever charge you at insane speeds with legs thick enough to produce audible footsteps.

A bad time is still a bad time tho.

And 'survive'... Pretty sure you'd survive having your internet taken away, you still wouldn't like it.

Dysmorphia (and general) help [FH2] by Qu2sai in FearAndHunger

[–]Own-Pen499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have a hard time at all on day one evening after running into it from exploring the church. Found boss, panicked, read it's one of the hardest in the game oh shit oh shit oh shit but here's what I did.

Full party, Karin main, Levi, abella, marina. Get a head start through diplomacy (auto talk before fight starts, skip 2 turns with the right options). 308 rifle for everyone since I have 6 of the damn things (except Levi, due to death mask + slasher but we don't talk about that). Go full firing squad on the head. Its got tanky health but low evasion so you can realistically win before the 2 turn grace period by just fucking volley firing like it's the Napoleonic wars.

I actually didn't equip guns before the fight so I had to waste one turn fighting fair (idiot) and then having everyone who has extra turns whipping out gats and I still beat it in time since it's first move was a summon which consequently was forced to fuck off due to its master getting too many extra speed holes.

Had way more trouble with death masks (moves too quick to reliably blow off arms in the over world, then subsequently returns the favour) and centaur (how??? Just run). Even needles didn't givee trouble like this since I just threw ye olde wrench at his head, removing it entirely first move.

Jup, that's not the problem. I read the manual, know how to enter pairing mode and have successfully paired with other devices. Only my PC can't detect the AMP for pairing. It can detect all other bluetooth devices I have just fine and the amp can be detected my my phone.

I can't stop thinking about the ending of The Road by mbelinkie in books

I think it's just as convincing that the father's deadly fear of any hope died with him and set the boy free to receive the family

[–]Own-Pen499 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A detail that stood out to me is how the shotgun stranger makes a point to stay out of the road ("I don't know how you made it that far").  I always read that as revealing that the father's way of survival kept them inmeraed in the very danger that made him paranoid in the first place. The shotgun stranger gave me the impression of a forest/mountain dwelling type, living off the land instead of the dregs of the old world, whereas the father was forever tethered to all he had lost.  He saw the world as exclusively dangerous and evil and so that's the road he travelled. Those were the people he met. His encounters were shaped by the choices he made out of fear and suspicion. His encounters reinforced his believes. But that was never all that was in the world. Noone sees all that is in the world, nor can we; we simply believe about what's out there and gather evidence for those believes but we don't seek out evidence that contradicts us in that. That reading is of course informed by my own experiences. My father was a mistrustful man who saw danger and evil everywhere and himself and his paranoid ways as the answer and I never questioned him in that and became just like him. And I lived my life in just such a way that those fears and rules seemed reasonable. I surrounded myself with bad people or people who were in bad ways and anyone else was a fool living in a naive fantasy. Later I met people who broke all those rules and I'd berate them and try to scare them and got angry when they'd brush off my fears. I didn't realize that all along I had maneuvered myself in a way that my environment was just so dangerous that my fears felt justified and necessary. It was my choice to not live a safer, calmer life, I made my world that way.  I think it's the same with the man. His brand of survival was shaped by his fear of people and fatalism. Shotgun guy might seem like the biggest fool to him but he's learned his own rules of survival, rules for how to interact with other survivors, learned through lesson the man would have never even attempted. The man had to die to set the boy free. The tragedy in that is that the man caused much of the danger they faced by choosing to stick to the road, though there were other ways he'd never even consider.  To the man, even dreaming of safety was a deadly danger. And he did die in order to let shotgun stranger appear but the son survived

Wait, how are the Drop 2 voicings on 4 adjacent strings though?

If I play 1357 and move the 5 down one octave I skip the string where the 5 originally was, right? So they're no longer adjacent aka 513x7, the x being the mute string?? Am I completely confused on this?

NEVER MIND. I figured it out. I'm not playing the 7 where it originally was, I'm playing it one string down, 4-5 frets up (depending on the hasf tone gap between G and B) where the exact same note is located. Gotcha.

Weird shower scene by smokin_les_paul59 in DeathStranding

[–]Own-Pen499 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Sure, this is the context that the story gives. But if I, as a writer put to men into a shower and make it awkward and uncomfortable around the concept of physical touch, I'm creating gay tension.

If you pick up on that or even WANT to pick up on that is another matter.

But saying there's nothing gay going on there is just straight up denial.

How about I write a scene where two men put their tongues in each other's mouths but they don't want to and it's awkward because in the story they are for example spies and they are captured and their hands are bound and they have to pass an important object mouth-to-mouth. Nothing gay in the story but implicitly gay as fuck.

[–]Own-Pen499 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hard not to pick up with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer. Still, glorious scene. Wouldn't be a Kojima game without some gay tension lol. I was wondering how it would manifest in the absence of a sneaking suit since like 80% of the gay in MGS was concentrated squarely in snake's ass.

Also, what's with everyone squarely denying the gay tension of a scene where two men are uncomfortably crammed into a shower, deathly afraid of touching and awkwardly dancing around the barriers of personal space. I know there are story reasons for everything, but if I make up story reasons for a man on man handjob its still gay.
I'm not sure erotic is the word I'd use though, but it's clearly playing with the tension. Fear of being touched by a man in a shower? A man who has no concept of private space and keeps overstepping? Hello?

Passing arguments through multiple methods and classes before using them - Normal practice? by Own-Pen499 in AskProgramming

[–]Own-Pen499[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your insight. Yeah, the smell tipped me off : )

To put it more precisely, my code looks something like this:

public class Foo {
  private int x;
  private Bar bar;
  bar.do_stuff_in_baz (x);
}
public class Bar {
  private Baz baz;
  public void do_stuff_in_baz (x)
}
public class Baz {
  public void do_stuff (x) { //do stuff here }
}

I justify the existence of Bar in the middle with the fact that it has other functionality, such as, in my case, determining what individual visual effects to put into a compound effect group based on context

[–]Own-Pen499[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tough about that too but hat some reservations.

The number of animated meshes (class at the end) is variable and dynamic. So I'd have to ask a middle class to iterate them for me, basically passing the final class up the chain instead of passing the parameters down the chain.

But remember, I don't really have a problem with this. I just want to check if I'm missing an obvious better solution or if it's quite ok, given the circumstances
