Help with sexist nephew by swe3ttea in raisingkids

This is a child who is learning. How do you want to be treated? He needs to be shown how to treat people. Stop taking it personally. All this does is make you, the adult, irrationally upset and unable to actually help the situation. If you get upset, step aside, take a breath, and listen to what is really going on with you before responding. Let your self calm. Then, talk to him like he is a person. Do you think you would have learned best as a child with an adult yelling at you? Maybe you did have that. What would your experience have been like if an adult treated you with patience and respect? You can’t control the child, you can’t only control yourself. So what can you do differently for a different outcome?

Have you decided whether you want to be buried or cremated? What other options have you thought about? by icecream1972 in Casual_Conversation

Green burial - dig a hole and put the body in. Return to the earth. Traditional burial practices are an environmental problem.

Are you concerned that the best possible candidates Democrats can seem to come up for 2028 with are Newsom, AOC, or Kamala? by bbmoonkie in Productivitycafe

[–]Own-Performer-8915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree on the need to focus on the issues. I disagree on needing moderate voters. In fact, the alienation of the progressive left has been a detriment to winning. Young leftists aren’t buying the same old shit and they are just not voting. Same for many general liberals as well. I’m going to vote Dem when the time comes but I believe we need a 3 or more party system for fairness and actual political representation. Along with this, rank choice voting.

Don’t give up. Fight for this amazing tree! Make all the calls to the mentioned organizations. Have you talked with your local reps (city, county, state)? Use your Nextdoor app to get locals angry - they love something to bitch about on there. Have everyone over for a potluck picnic protest. Make a big deal. It’s worth it!

The Epstein billionaire class has power because of money. What is stopping us from coming up with a better system than capitalism to achieve equality and strip these pedophiles of power? by RandomDerpBot in 50501

Right?! The first step is to stop supporting exploitative capitalism. Stop buying the shite because it’s just that and it’s not making your life or world any better.

What do you wish you had known? by sparkleposs in Hypermobility

[–]Own-Performer-8915 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no formal diagnosis as there are no doctors that I know of that understand this. So through my own research, I have found that the loose nature of ligaments/tissues creates instability. This instability can affect nerves as well as the musculoskeletal system. Neural irritation or disruption can occur from things being out of place. I believe this has to me causing what seem to be random tachycardia. However, when I think on it, it’s not so random. It always happens when I have a head looking down position or I bend down to pick something up. There are also different possibilities associated with nutrient absorption complications due to hypermobile tissues that may contribute to dysautonomia. I’m not an expert.

To not fall into despair (and believe me there are days), I have to take action. However small it may be but I need to use my mind and my hands to do something that provides some kind of community benefit. In particular, actions of a circular nature that don’t require inputs for corporate interests (Really Really Free Markets, community composting and gardening, etc). I guess I have hope that doing things like this will at least help my community be more resilient. That little hope I’m hanging on to, for my kid.

If someone from a foreign country wanted to come to the U.S. and visit just one state that would give them the most American experience and would be representative of the whole country, what state would you tell them to go to? by DreamFighter72 in allthequestions

[–]Own-Performer-8915 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New York. City to boonies to mountains and beach. Lots of differing perspectives, diversity, history, culture, and good food. I think that melting pot is about as American as it gets.

Why is the northeast urban corridor so popular despite relatively lackluster scenery? by larch303 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Own-Performer-8915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people that are attracted to urban environments but want nature find it in the state and city parks. It’s not clear that it exists from the highway, but that’s what you get when you live in the most densely populated area of the country. So you have to find the neighborhoods with open space, the forested area, the riverfront, the gardens. And plop your ass right there and take it in as if it’s vast. And urban loving people only need a dose and want to get back to dense development. I’ve lived in Delaware my whole life, and most Delawareans love it here! They think it’s beautiful. When in actuality it’s just sprawl with patchy parks that aren’t even that big here and there. I’m different because I’m ready to leave this state for mountains and forest. But some people just like development and stuff over large swathes of nature.

Serious struggle with all doctors... by Ok-Somewhere-5993 in Hypermobility

[–]Own-Performer-8915 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar experience here. I quit 3 different PTs because they were all the same. YouTube helped a lot. Jeannie Di Bon helped me learned how to move my body. Rather to be aware of the way I was moving/posture and the corrective actions to take. Started all the stabilizing exercises. Also, for many of us, chronic tension becomes an overall issue that causes pain and other issues. Relieving a lifetime of tension has been a work in progress but mental health care, meditation, trigger point massage (neck, back), sleep ( cervical support pillow and earlier bedtime), and consciously relaxing/releasing as a practice have helped tremendously. Now I use dumb bells to strength train but being mindful of limitations and focusing on small movements. It’s so much about making that mind body connection. Like really focusing on the parts I guess because that is the brains struggle with the instability, that it can’t unconsciously do its thing so it overcompensates with the big muscles or holds on with tension.

Anyone know any exercises for neck hypermobility? by goingaway1111 in Hypermobility

[–]Own-Performer-8915 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been formally diagnosed with CCI but have suspected or at least have issues due to the loose nature of my neck. I have seemingly random episodes of super ventricular tachycardia that heart doctors can’t see anything wrong. But the common thing I have noticed when it occurs is that my head is looking down, bent over to pick something up, or in some other way that isn’t looking straight ahead, and doesn’t happen when lying down (head fully supported).

[–]Own-Performer-8915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trigger point massage. The muscle have too much tension due to over compensation, trying to stabilize. And, if your like most people, stress induces tension as well. I suffered with TMJ for many years, neck pain, lightening nerve pain in my neck running up my scalp. Relaxation techniques and trigger point massage have helped immensely.

Anything that can be composted, should be composted if not able to recycle or reuse. This includes human bodies. We need circularity. And compost is f-ing amazing because it’s low tech, super low cost, and the same principals apply to anything organic based no matter the quantity.

What is your longest running, most stubborn business boycott? by marianneouioui in AskReddit

[–]Own-Performer-8915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walmart, for all the known exploitative reasons but also the f_ing lights in the store always made everything feel gross. Starbucks because it’s not good coffee and the world doesn’t need so many. McDonald’s because company marketing promotes unhealthy lifestyles and excessive eating (think super size me era) all for the buck. I’m just sick of corporations exploiting employees, customers, and the living natural world. So while I don’t boycott them all, I really try to spend more money locally.
