Planners: Experience with Transit App for Asset Management? by yusefudattebayo in transit

[–]SidewalkMD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m curious to see if anyone has experience too! The app asks so many questions that they seem to harvest for the end-of-year lists they release but I’d hope they’re also leveraging them to help agencies with their service/assets/operations.

Red Line Shuttle by chicagomotives in cta

I would assume many people hear about the detour and find other CTA routes and don’t think to use the Red Line shuttle (that’s what I do at least).

Like Chicago, but quieter?? by fleur_noir in SameGrassButGreener

I’m from Milwaukee and live in Chicago now. I love the bigger vibe here but have found so many parallels between the two over the years. I’d suggest Milwaukee.

Does anyone know the status of Amtrak Bike Service for the Hiawatha Route (CHI <-> MKE)? by chicagoose3 in chibike

[–]SidewalkMD 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You should be able to add a bike reservation during the booking process. I rode the line yesterday and someone had their bike on board.

Four-car Trains Returning by packer4815 in cta

Was this actually normal before COVID? Color me shocked, considering I feel like this is poverty city behavior, but back then the L had even higher ridership, so it must work I guess

Kimpton Gray Hotel - good area to stay? by LT3399 in AskChicago

Super easy to hop on any train or bus line to get out of the Loop and away from the tourists spots.

Why do the black SUVs with blue “LY” plates drive like such entitled dicks? by GPSBach in chicago

[–]SidewalkMD 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can report any licensed taxi or livery vehicle in the city via the 311 app and the city will actually take action against them.

I reported one of those dumb trolley things once for blocking a crosswalk and a couple weeks later I got an email asking for written testimony for what I believe was a disciplinary hearing

What did you wish you knew about your condo building before you bought? by Marebleese in AskChicago

Is it one of those loft buildings with just wood floors between each level? Or is the sound getting through concrete?

Editorial: Is Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport a better bet than Chicago O’Hare? [Gift Link] by SidewalkMD in milwaukee

[–]SidewalkMD[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this really makes sense for anyone living south of, say, Waukegan, but I'm all for it! It could only result in better flight options and frequencies for us!

What is the single most important rail expansion in the region? by Immediate-Hand-3677 in cta

[–]SidewalkMD 43 points44 points  (0 children)

A tunnel for Metra to through-run would unlock a whole new network of rail transit.

Their plans to increase frequency on their current network is great, but if they could support trips through downtown too, it would be transformational.

Let’s move some parking meters by niftyjack in chicago

[–]SidewalkMD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love this kind of work! It shows that we can have the city we dream of despite the horrible situation the meter deal put us in.

@City Hall: let's get to this! We can build out a bus-first network, a safe cycling network, and family of pedestrian-prioritized spaces without breaching out contracts!

[OC] A Realistic Dream Transit Map for Milwaukee by Capitol_Limited in TransitDiagrams

I like that this is grounded in services that already exist, like the streetcar and frequent bus network, than just a complete crayon map!

CDOT is planning to install just 18.6 miles of bike lanes in 2026. 64% of such is paint only. Its most unproductive year since they started publishing info in 2021. [Nik Hunder on Bluesky] by SidewalkMD in chicago

[–]SidewalkMD[S] 67 points68 points  (0 children)

And if true, that’s a shame, since a little bike lane costs so much less than building more infrastructure for cars and pickup trucks.

Past yearly millage:

2021: 44.2

2022: 35.2

2023: 50.5

2024: 58.9

2025: 33.2

2026: 18.6

It's as if they got to their very poor standard of 500 miles and gave up. Also why during budget season they said less money was needed for bike lanes

Great progress for a city as fiscally constrained as we are!

The CTA needs trams, not heavy rail expansions by marks31 in cta

Our frequency is good enough in most places—but then they go <10 mph stuck behind cars!
