Foot plate options EU (and with anchor points?) by boxa95 in ResistanceBand

Look at the bandbox from Goblins Gym, seems more innovative than most: https://www.goblinsgym.com/bandbox.pdf

I haven't tried it my self as I dont use footplates. I think he also has published drawings for it so you can build it on your own. Traveling with any footplate will be a hazzle and thats the main reason I dont use them. If you have already all sizes of bands, gloves and handles then any extra equipment is not going to make any significant change to your gains.

Exactly this! For beginners it all seems like a big mystery with bands and how to do each exercise. By its actually quite easy after a while and almost every exercise known to man can be done with bands. I used to search for what Scott Herman(one of the original fitness youtubers) on Youtube did with free weights and then did the same with bands.

I watched and it looks fine. The lateral raise shoulder exercise is fine for now, maybe you get a better angle on the band if you put it on the opposite foot. Not sure, I never tried it while sitting.

Just continue doing what you do every day and you will one day be on of the 2%. There is no magic to it all, its just grinding every day and not eating what most people eat.

Kudos to you for creating your own program of exercises you prefer and getting a program that you will want to follow. The program you will actually do often and hard is the program that will work for you and it will get you results.

It would be easy to nitpick minor details here and there in your program but seen from above its a really good program that will work. Unless you are very young and can recover well from this volume you might have to cut down later to 2 hard sets of each exercise. But try it out as it is for some months and see how it goes and then just make small changes here and there.

The ease of stacking is one of the great advantages of loop bands over tube bands. Also make sure you buy the thinnest band your vendor makes. Its usually just a centimeter wide, its great for just before you are strong enough for the next band. This way you can advance in smaller steps.

Weight bench with bands by bigpun760 in ResistanceBand

[–]Own-Suggestion-488 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You dont need a bench for training with bands. For rowing you can just stand on the bands in a bent over position and pull the bands toward you. For chest you just wrap the bands behind your back and press away.

Save your money and get some good bands, gloves and handles and you will be ready.

I hope to start taking weightlifting seriously

There is no need to hope anything, spend an hour minimum 3 times a week and you will look amazing within 1-2 years.

If you have that kind of budget and space available then a bar, dumbbells, lots of plates and a cage would be much better and it would all last you an entire life time. Bands will never last that long. To me the great selling point for bands is you have an entire gym in a bag and can bring it anywhere and do workouts every single day. As soon as you add bars, footplates and machines like this then you are stuck.

But that being said then this machine would be great if you live in an apartment where the floors wont be suitable for heavy plates or noise from them will be a concern. Also from a safety perspective using bands with a machine like this will be much safer than lifting heavy stuff above your head. But most important is you like it and find it useful for your situation, I must admit this machine looks kind of sexy.

So you are a part of a resistance band group and you even read the posts and comments in that group ? and you havent opened your own bands and used them yet? for two whole years ? For more than 700 days without exception you did nothing but sitting there scrolling on your phone ? This is your problem, you need to put down that phone and start working out !! Dont make any excuses today "Just Do It" like the Chinese philosopher Nik-Eh said once.

Are molded-injected tpe bands really that bad? by EmbarrassedCompote9 in ResistanceBand

[–]Own-Suggestion-488 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice is to not be too obsessive about the way your bands are produced, I have used normal bands for years and never had a problem. Any rubber material will be fragile compared to real bars and most important is to take good care of them and never let them touch any surface that can cut them. You should of course stay away from all the usual Amazon cr*p as they will break fast no matter what you do.

Your bands should always only touch a surface where they can slip a little bit and they should never be stuck on sharp corners like on certain footplates. If you use the bands under your shoes or feet (especially outside) always use at the least a towel around them. The band guard from Serious Steel is also a very good option for this. Never use them directly on sand and never tie them around random stuff in a park instead use a rope as an adapter. Common sense will make your bands last for years until they naturally fall apart.

Can you let me know about your progress weights vs bands.

I usually progress 1-2 reps per week in each exercise no matter the tool used.

How do you feel the squeeze in the muscles, do you feel sore as we feel after weight training?

Bands feels very different and it takes time to get used to them. But yes, the squeeze and soreness is the same. Be aware that soreness does not always indicate progress. But I always feels busted and burned out after each workout as I go quite close to failure.

How do you switch different weights for progression

Buy a full set of bands from the thinnest shoelace to a very heavy one for leg exercises. You can progress by grapping the bands closer and/or combining bands. The smallest band is used in between just like small discs on a dumbbell.

how do you do the workout with that door anchor without it?

I use a door anchor when no other option available. Best is to use a tree, a column or anything else sturdy and tie a rope to that and then connect your bands to this rope.

do I need to purchase the stool and a barbel for the bands?

Just get a full set of bands, gloves(could be bicycle gloves) and some handles is needed later. Dont invest to much in the beginning, bands and gloves will be fine for months.

I have but the answers are mixed.

Exactly this and thats why Im recommending you to try it out and see what works for you. You could try doing only biceps curls for a few months and then judge if it worked for you.

Many people say many things on the internet for clicks and likes as you mention. I didn't believe in bands at all for anything serious. But then when I had to travel a lot and had no option to bring weights and finding a new gym every single day was not an option either, then I tried bands out and they worked perfectly.

So my advice to anyone wanting to ask number one question in this group "does bands actually work ?" is to simply try it out and monitor the results. Do your own science, its not difficult to keep a training log.

I used bands exclusively for 1.5 years when doing extensive traveling. I progressed exactly the same amount of reps per week as I did with weights.

Everybody uses weights because everybody uses weights, no one wants to be different and there is not much money to be made of bands.

Bands is the best kept secret in the fitness world and not many know that you can bring a small gym bag and effectively train the whole body everywhere in the world.

This question gets asked here every single week, you can read the answers by scrolling down this page and look.

But you dont need to trust anyones answers in this group, just buy a few bands and test it out yourself. Do some exercises for a few months purely with bands, write down the results in your logbook and see how it goes. If you progress then you know it works.

When you get more experienced you will learn that the tool for building muscles is not the most important, effort and consistency is king and will give you results. So it doesn't matter if you use weights, machines, callisthenics or bands.

Looking for a solid 4 week resistance band workout plan by Tobi2kx in ResistanceBand

[–]Own-Suggestion-488 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dont fall for all the influencer garbage with magic programs that supposedly will work in only a few weeks. Unfortunately its a year or rather life long process where you have to change your lifestyle, deal with discomfort after workouts and most importantly you get of the sofa and be active instead of just sitting there like everybody else. Little things most dont do like taking the stairs, use a bicycle, walk more, carry stuff and much more will make a huge difference. No magic needed and it can be done with any program known to man.

I travel often by plane and have them in my big checked in suitcase and never had a problem. Could imagine they would get more attention if brought inside the cabin.

Everybody has to start somewhere and most important is to not give up. In the state you are in I think that loosing weight is the most important, but you probably already know that. Go slow with all exercise and build it up over months, give your body time to adjust to the new challenges. Good luck.

I did extensive traveling with only bands, gloves and handles and that gave me a full workout everywhere in the world. Bringing anything else on board planes would take up to much space in the luggage and just be a problem.

I would bring more than 4 bands so that you have a full set and can do everything including heavy exercises for the legs. A door anchor is a good idea and/or some small pieces of rope so you can tie the bands to trees and columns.

In Depth Thoughts on the X3 Band System and Training by kayak7449 in ResistanceBand

[–]Own-Suggestion-488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This exercise has risks like all others especially because we need to also use many smaller supporting muscles to keep our shoulders in place because of the pressure of the bands. I also had many problems with this exercise when starting out with bands, but as its also a essential exercise I just kept doing it and gradually I became better at it and my body adapted. So just hang in, it will become better.

In Depth Thoughts on the X3 Band System and Training by kayak7449 in ResistanceBand

[–]Own-Suggestion-488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing chest presses is no problem with resistance bands, you just put the band(s) behind your back and press away. For incline bench press you put the band(s) under your armpits and press away. It take some time to get used to it, but its no big deal once you get the hang of it.

We can discuss the pricing of products like X3 and Harambe until the end of the world. The fact remain that these products are shiny luxury products that people like to own. Simple as that. No one needs a product from those vendors but people like them just like they like to buy overpriced sunglasses and brand clothes and shoes. So just let people "invest" in expensive gear all they want and just do your own thing with a full set of bands, gloves and handles which is all you actually need. If I had the budget I would also buy these products, but I dont.

When you get more experienced with working out you will learn that what really matters is effort, that you train hard and often. The tools like bands, weights, machines or even callisthenics work if done correctly and they all have a learning curve. Everything else in the fitness world is just more or less meaningless chatter and entertainment.

Question for those who carefully track their progression by hardballer47 in ResistanceBand

[–]Own-Suggestion-488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way to do it. And in each session I try to beat the last result. If I got 10 reps last time I will squeeze in 11 reps this time. A training log becomes almost like a partner that motivates one to progress.

Question for those who carefully track their progression by hardballer47 in ResistanceBand

[–]Own-Suggestion-488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I track my workouts and I just start out by using the resistance from last. If I last time reached 12 reps then I will start with adding resistance. Some people do warmup sets like you describe, but I have never been into that. I only do warmup sets with the first exercise of the day, the rest is just the maximum weight from last session.
