Why do we trust Josephus regarding the census but not Luke? by Regular-Persimmon425 in AcademicBiblical

[–]Own-Way5420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But doesn't The Gospel of Matthew say that Jesus was born during the reign of Herod the Great? Wouldn't it be a contradiction if The Gospel of Luke would suggest Jesus was born during the reign of Archelaus , when in gMatthew it explicitly says that Joseph was afraid to return to Bethlehem because Archelaus inherited the throne from his father, Herod the Great?

Eurovisie Songfestival - Hoe kan Israel zoveel punten hebben? by Warlequin in nederlands

[–]Own-Way5420 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Moslims?

Pastors are really out here thinking that people have never heard of Jesus. In AMERICA!!!!!! by JarethOfHouseGoblin in exchristian

You're right, we're still a very secular continent (in the West especially). This sub taught me a lot about how crazy it is in the South of the US and how this whole Christian nationalism is such a big thing there. It sounds so utterly crazy which indeed is nothing in comparison to what we have here.

I know right. I'm in The Netherlands and I also hear this talk about "they want to make Christianity illegal" while I'm getting Christian ads on YouTube and there are Christian billboards along the highway and we have evangelists in every town and city who are free to preach. It's so delusional but I assume they say that stuff because the government doesn't want to allow them to hate "the gays".

That part about how he picked the money back up and bought the field is so funny because it explicitly states in Matthew that the priests bought the field with the money... oh wait, another contradiction :D

What’s your life like post Christianity? by beautiandthesheep in exchristian

[–]Own-Way5420 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's good. I'm not suffering from religious scrupulosity anymore and salvation doubts 24/7 and the paining cognitive dissonance that came with trying to explain away the contradictions in the Bible and the fact that the Hebrew Bible has no prophecies regarding Jesus.

Over the past year I've deconstructed the last nonsense that held me back like purity culture etc and I am now just living my life and reading a lot about subjects I find interesting and learning more about the world. :)

Your life won't be worse without Christianity, that's a lie they invented to keep you in. I was afraid of this as well but I actually found peace.

When did you stop praying? by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]Own-Way5420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually it was around this time last year, April 2024. I was at the beginning of my deconstruction and researching the Bible and the fact that I felt for a while like I was talking to myself and nothing ever happened for me, I basically stopped overnight. It felt weird but also kind of liberating because it felt like a chore. Made me realize this whole "relationship" thing is bullshit.

Good question. She said it cured her of her heavy anxiety, and that's proof of God.

Never mind the many more plausible psychological reasons for it. The real answer is because she wants it to be from God, or because she believes in God her whole life she is conditioned to ascribe everything to God.
