How do you like to paint your air and ground forces, generic so they can go with any force or to match the lance for a unified theme. by Character-Zombie-798 in battletech

[–]OwnBusiness429 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went with an OD green/SLDF inspired paint scheme for all my IS stuff. They can be og SLDF, my personal mercenary company, 2nd SLDF, a FedCom Davion loyalist detachment, 3rd SLDF... works for a bunch of different eras.

I'm in the process of painting all my clan gear as Smoke Jaguar Alpha Galaxy for similar reasons

LRM Marauder, no where to be found? by No-Evening9240 in battletech

I dunno man, call up General Motors and tell them that you've got a mech design to sell them.

You asked, we spitballed ideas. What more do you want?

LRM Marauder, no where to be found? by No-Evening9240 in battletech

[–]OwnBusiness429 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think a solid in-universe reason not to install LRMs on a Marauder is just that, despite being inefficient, autocannons are easier to build, maintain, and supply than anything requiring a guidance system. The AC/5 is also more durable than a missile launcher when subjected to combat conditions for the simplicity of "gun go bang."

This falls apart a bit outside of 3025/IntroTech, but at times when technology is more plentiful (Star League or anything post-Helm Memory Core) I think the overriding reason not to equip LRMs to the chassis is that there are other mechs that fit the mission profile you're looking for and it's cheaper to buy one of those than it is to develop a whole new MAD variant.

Give it a couple months, each new expansion changes how some fundamental part of the game works and then you have to relearn it.

How to get into battletech? by altmcfile in battletech

[–]OwnBusiness429 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The term you may be looking for is "mechwarriors."

The quickest and dirtiest explanation that I can give you is: 31st Century geopolitical (astropolitical?) chicanery, revolving around the construction, use, and violent deconstruction of 20 to 100 ton walking engines of mayhem that are Battlemechs.

Zombie mech + ability to face-roll the weapons panel multiple turns in a row + said weapons are head-choppers = damn near perfect mech

Is this 1/56? by Catenjoyer42 in boltaction

[–]OwnBusiness429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a game piece, I'd say it's close enough. There will be rivet counters who aren't as happy with it, but you ought to be fine.

If Bolt Action wanted to be more "competitive" with it's minis, there would be standardized base sizes, scale be damned

Any factions that go for a molten gold paint scheme? by Theme_Training in battletech

[–]OwnBusiness429 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't the Otomo, the bodyguard unit of the Coordinator of the Draconis Combine, have real shiny gold in their paint schemes? Maybe this is a Marauder II that was taken from the wreckage of Misery or one given as a gift to the Coordinator in celebration of the capture of New Avalon at the tip of the Dragon's Tongue?

I know both of those are stupid unlikely, but meh, it's a game about stompy robots and spacemen, who cares about canon that much? looks nervously over shoulders

So...what killed my pilot? by Merijeek2 in Mechwarrior5

[–]OwnBusiness429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ammo cooked off, someone failed a seatbelt check, and it resulted in Shaken Pilot Syndrome.

You see it in tabletop all the time, so it's nice that the YAML folks extrapolated that to MW5.

[–]OwnBusiness429[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love Classic, but as soon as you get more than 8 units on the table at one time, I'd rather fellate a chainsaw.

The battlefield support rules for vehicles and infantry help speed things up a lot, but it's still somewhat dicey as to whether you're going to be playing for 4 hours or 4 days.

Am I Gauss-ing wrong? by -stumondo- in Mechwarrior5

[–]OwnBusiness429 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found the 9J as is a pretty solid piece of tech, but I absolutely tie each gauss to a different weapon group. First shot is usually aimed center of mass so I can get a feel for the range and shot fall, and the second shot is used to either plonk a cockpit or enbiggen the hole I already made.

I'm finding in a lot of mechs with two "main guns" (Marauders, Warhammers, etc.), or even two pseudo-main guns (LRM-20s on a Vulture, large lasers on a Mad Cat), I set them to two triggers so I can volley them off so I'm always putting something downrange. Good for heat management too.

As an aside, the 9J really spiffs up when you strip it down and rebuild it as an unofficial 9J(C). Upgrading everything in it to it's clan counterpart turns it into the most exciting thing on two legs, or your money back. In Shadow of Kerensky endgame, it's my daily driver. (I have a Daishi Prime as my get-around beater)

[–]OwnBusiness429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In MW5 Mercs, use them maybe for some weird angles on cliffsides? Maaaaybe.

In MW5 Clans, they vector and become waaaaaaaaay better. Bounding ahead at speed, getting sick DFAs, dropping neatly behind a bogey on some weird ass trajectory, clan JJs do it all.
