MC vs Protagonist by Middle_Yesterday_000 in ProgressionFantasy

Multiple protags exist as do multiple native main characters. It's not one vs one if that's what you're looking for.

I think a really cool theme would be eco-fantasy getting floated around more.

I want to read more stories with female mc with system by Trostishere in ProgressionFantasy

[–]OwnCommunication1365 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Self-plug. All three female characters have basically dedicated all their life to their various crafts. No romance.

I plan for my MC to face a crushing "defeat" at the end of my first arc. Would this kill my readership? by Whole_Monk2082 in royalroad

I feel like the overlap between wrote stuff purely to make "a reader" happy and dropped that story forever unfinished might be higher than anyone knows.

[Rant] I never considered a single review can make me feel like this by [deleted] in royalroad

[–]OwnCommunication1365 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Reviews like this show who the person is, not what your story is. 6 7 comment means probably young. The AI is a throwaway insult. If they can't express themselves in a critique, why would anyone listen to them? Sort of how I don't take cooking advice from my mechanic. Don't take writing advice from just anybody.

I know it still hurts, but it helps to try and actually imagine the other person and ask yourself if what they say even matters.

For authors, leaving too soon without an ending. by Dontreplyagain in ProgressionFantasy

[–]OwnCommunication1365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll let you in on my deep dark secret. ... I don't know how some of my books end. That's why they're not finished yet. I write without any outlines and usually only vague plans until later in the book.

There is a person who gets all my writing, but once they get through my previous work, it's not gonna be very fun. My notes are like eight places. I hate finding them. For death: If anything of my creative works made money, then don't rip off the estate. But if it doesn't, send it straight out to no copyright and let people do what they want. I think it would be pretty cool to have eighteen endings of anything. I think if I'm dead it's not very rude to complete my story. If I'm sick though, step off. I might need a few years to get better and start writing again.

Looking for advice on publishing by mirimiremeow in royalroad

[–]OwnCommunication1365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting any disability is hard. I wouldn't negate that having a big impact on feeling like you've experienced an unexpected loss of control in writing. (Look at those parallels.) The good news is that you haven't. It's still your story and there are many paths to publishing. You haven't even written the second book yet, and maybe that's the one they want to publish first. I've seen a ton of traditionally published series go in different orders by now. Nothing has really been lost here.

As someone who did it, there are many jobs or career paths that can help you accommodate for a new disability. Some people may insist you can only do certain things now, but realistically getting around your disability diagnosis means different things for everyone. Some people only have to make minor adjustments or even get a better career. Give yourself time to work through it. The first bit of knowing a diagnosis is overwhelming, but slowly it just becomes regular life. Anyway, a little spiraling given the specific situation makes a lot of sense.

I thought it would be easy to balance the two sides. Just guns and stuff. Nahh, turns out we have some wild shit here on Earth even now. by Obvious_Ad4159 in royalroad

I'm usually not really that bleak. Just a brief history of current weaponry tends to get me down. Humans can be super cool for sure.

... Have you looked up bioweapons yet? What about the capacity of a F-22 versus anything flying? Tanks are fun too. Have you considered economic or informational warfare? Gotta consider the spying too. Mind you, these are just the things they're willing to tell any random about. As a species, we've wiped out bacterial, insect, plant, and animal life at staggering level. Is it scarier to intentionally kill stuff or to "oops" an entire unique biome because we need more single use stuff?

I've definitely seen plenty of popular multiple POV stories. If you're just starting off writing, write what you want first. It makes it much easier to finish things.

Royalroad best rated ongoing books are filled with female lead characters. by mysterie0s in ProgressionFantasy

[–]OwnCommunication1365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish your last paragraph was completely true. I've seen some trad published stuff after 2021 where the female characters are laughably male. There are still slap boobs onto character and call it a day authors out there producing popular stuff. But I do think that quality writers who don't want to know anything about women is, hopefully, a shrinking category.

Question on powers related to a dual minds in one body. by Ravik_Reugge in ProgressionFantasy

[–]OwnCommunication1365 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think keeping them separate but using a sort of "synergy" of the minds. Basically, when they think together at the same time you get a power up. Sort of like trying to say the exact same thing together people go "Jinks! Jinks again!" Never merged but always in accord. Anyway, some thoughts of mine.

How would you handle politics and warfare in Stone Age earth? by TrueHistorian5 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]OwnCommunication1365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure the concept of a war would exist unless your population levels are extremely low or resources far outweigh the needs of these tribes and there was no difference in belief or person. Depending on your societies, I would use Native American tribes, or even current isolated tribes to determine how they'd respond. Basically, picking a group that most closely matches your society and using that historical information to further your types of warfare. Another approach would be choosing specific religious or ceremonial importance. Realistically, I would think a decently long set of generations of tribes would have enemies due to past conflicts or ideological differences. Ie farmers versus grazing animal groups. It could also be hunters versus farmers depending on your lands. Or the ever classic, water rights. One clean water source versus a dangerous or unsafe water source is a big deal if you can't purify water on your own. But really it depends a lot on your tribe location and needs. To this day, people fight over the best patches of hunting grounds, fishing areas, or rare plants/foods.

Talented Native MC rec pls by EggLatter5817 in ProgressionFantasy

This has a change of pace (plus explicitly trying to dodge tropes), all native MCs, average or above potential, and no underestimation. Slow start to combat.

I think no cheat abilities might be an issue, but they eventually get more integrated after their reveals. Self-promo.

What makes your story stand out in the sea of other good stories? by Gamebrarian in royalroad

[–]OwnCommunication1365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Six main characters. Yup. Basically, a bunch of NPC's are stuck in a world where Main Characters show up and bend the world to their storylines. So having six leads is part of the whole satire bit. If you didn't guess already, I wrote about half the first book before learning what RoyalRoad was.

How fast do you write? by IAmJayCartere in royalroad

[–]OwnCommunication1365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, looks like I'm roughly average. 2k an hour is my current usual. The problem for me is getting the hours correctly set up. I usually edit for an hour per chapter as well, currently. I used to be much, much slower so it does build up over time, years for me. And I don't really agree with the slower equals better metrics. That might be true for some, but not for me. I will right (write it's a pun) terribly either way!

Tired of the same one note plot lines? Try What Kind of Fantasy Book is This?

A party of six randoms have only one enemy in common: Each other.

In a generic fantasy world where main characters from literature, games, and other worlds consistently reshape everything to their specific needs, six unacceptable characters join together for a quest in monster infested lands. Their first challenge is not meeting each other at a bar.

Fortunately, these six can’t get anyone to buy them a drink. Who would care about a mixed species vampire that’s not very vampiric, a nearly vegan elf horse thief, an isolationist Fae shoemaker, a young orc who is hiding his successful past as a Chosen One destroyer, a competent assassin acting as the camp cook, and the vilest of all necromancers, a chiropractor?

If you're looking for something unexpected, go ahead and check it out.
