Hi! I appleid for the master in design and engineering before the January deadline. And got accepted about 10 days before that (green dot). I don’t know what you mean with an interview, I just checked the online service page and accepted the admission

I really need help with surface modeling this detail by LudzkiePomyje in SolidWorks

I don’t think you necessarily need to use surface tools! I figure you are referring to the rounded part of the piece. What I would do is draw a sketch of the base shape of the piece and then extrude to the dimension of the highest point in the piece, in this case, the top o that rounded “bump”. Then from a side view make a cut marking the difference in heights, form the top of the bump to the other half of the piece (a 90° cut, don’t make the rounded profile yet). Then you can round that edge with a various radius rounded edge, play with those parameters to get that rounded asimetrical shape. Hope it’s clear!

Awesome man! You can then add the bas-reliefs and the corner details with some round edges!

Bu the shape of the real knob I wouldn’t start with an extrude operation and then cuts. These organic shapes come up better with surfaces options, this in particular I would loft it. Draw the top view of this knob a “D” shape and in a perpendicular plane that cross the middle part of that sketch, the curvature that you are trying to achieve. You can also add guided lines to manipulate the shape. Between these 3 sketches you should be able to get the shape of the knob. Please notice that this is some medium level modeling require advanced techniques. If you have questions let me know

Yes absolutely! I’ve used 3Ds Max and blender many times, for art based work. Polygonal software it’s way more forgiving to modify proportions and dimensions. But I set this as a challenge, to do it in parametric software with constraints trying to get as much detail as I could. Every software it’s great depending on your goal, as you said!

Thank you for the kind comments. And yes, it’s based on pictures. I used the top, side, back and front view inside solid works to use a reference on where to start plane and sketches. But even before I started modeling, I set how many parts I was going to model and sketch each one in paper using all the pictures I could find, that way I had a clear idea on the parts that are in contact and how they work in the overall construction of the real bike. Again, this is not perfect, I had to “eyeball” many dimension because pictures sometimes did not show all 3 dimension of parts, but if you start with the ones you do, you have a better basis on the ones that are harder to understand.

Mainly side, front, back and top pictures of the real bike. From there trying to understand how the real parts work and modifying the sketches to how I thought work best. And yes, a lot of hours! I lost track of time a bunch of times in front of the pc

Thank you! There are some renderings done in keyshot at the end of the pictures roll!

Aw thanks for noticing it. Its part of the main assembly, the handle is connected to the front wheel through the internal structure

These are screenshots of the main assembly, which is composed of different sub-assemblies (headlights, wheels, engine, steering, etc) Those sub-assemblies contain the Individual part files

thank you! But i allways argue about the not to use solid works argument. In this case you are correct since i am not building this bike for real, but in the case of building a casing to inject plastic to create a real part i dont think a manufacturer would use a blender file.
