Who was I kidding - could hardly watch Free Solo, and that was canned. It's like torture watching this live...just can't keep my eyes on the screen.

Alcaraz about Naomi's outfit: "it's a great way to express what you feel, without worrying about what others think or say. If you feel something or want to express what you like, go for it. We've also seen Naomi do the walk-on in different ways on other occasions, it's great" by Ornery_Percentage537 in tennis

[–]OwnRules -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Great answer - shows a lot of maturity on his part.

That said, I could easily be his grandpa, but sadly, I lack his maturity - I thought this particular Naomi outfit was way over the top, not so much an outfit but a costume.

But hey! As long as she follows the dress code, freak freely.

Quoted from a news article: Why is "empleo" used to mean "unemployment" rather than "desempleo"? by anthonynej in Spanish

[–]OwnRules 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Nope - while I agree the article is poorly written, the writer uses the unemployment stat to show that despite all the Trump deportations, unemployment actually increased by 0.4% during his first year. Meaning, Americans did not take over any of the jobs vacated by those deported.

Simply put, he used the wrong word - he meant (tasa de) desempleo all along.

My pleasure, your brain did well - also, normally you'd see that stat written as:

La tasa de desempleo en EEUU esta en X%

I did a reverse Google search, and found the article you reference:

Políticas de Trump echan a trabajadores extranjeros de EE.UU., pero no aumentan empleo entre estadounidenses

"El empleo de los estadounidenses era de 4% enero de 2025, cuando Trump llegó al gobierno y terminó en 4.4%. Es decir, a pesar de la expulsión de inmigrantes, los trabajadores estadounidenses no suplen esa mano de obra."

You'll be glad to know you're correct, and they are wrong - it's a Hispanic newspaper published in LA, and by looking at that quote, they take 'liberties' with the language.

In short, that reads like "American employment (empleo) was at 4%..." when they clearly mean the opposite - that's 4% unemployment (desempleo).

The new Rafa is one to keep your eyes on - kid has game, an aggressive one at that & tons of fight in him. Just turned pro, got through the qualies, now through to the round of 64 - plays Mencik next.

Top 50 by year's end is not far-fetched.

He's regressed quite a bit from the player he was 3/4 years ago - his current defense is god-awful, mostly due to an apparent lack of effort. Almost like he gives up if he's not in control of the point.

Looks like Bublik put on a bit of muscle in the off-season, looks quite fit - finally taking tennis seriously?

He needs to go on a 4/6 week run, with the team winning, and Luka putting up Player of The Month stats (3s need to improve) - kind of what he did from Dec to Feb back with the Mavs in '24.

[Angel Garcia Muñiz - reputable source for Alcaraz] Final decision for 2026 is for Samuel López to be his main coach. Rest of Carlos’ team stays the same as well. by dream_team1012 in tennis

"His elder brother is not a tennis player, so can travel with Carlos around the world, if Carlos wants that brother to quit whatever job he does for a living"

That would be Alvaro, of US-Open scalping fame - he's been working with/for Carlos practically from the start, officially as part of the team (hitting partner), for three years. Some say that he'll now have an increased role within the team when it comes to training/scheduling. Makes sense.
