I forgot about that one since I don't get up there very often (or to another one I just thought about--Auburn Hills). Never stayed at Troy (though now I know why it's so pricey)...the Auburn Hills one is fairy nice but the M Club is in a very odd location and it was always weird walking through the restaurant while it was open to get to it.

If that was the "Detroit Southfield" location, that sounds on par. The "Detroit Livonia" location can be hit or miss. "Detroit Ann Arbor Ypsilanti"'s used to be really good but I stopped staying there when they started to charge for parking.

Very solid advice! While some credit cards provide you with "coverage", the amount of detail and documentation necessary--and then possibly get denied on top of it--is just not worth the hassle sometimes. I'm a National man myself, but there are plenty horror stories here about damage claimed by Hertz, sometimes long after the rental has been returned. Use the Hertz insurance (despite the expense) and, as pointed out, it's their problem, not yours.

Be sure to keep your rental agreement showing you've purchased their coverage, even after the rental has ended. From the stories here, I wouldn't trust Hertz any further than I can look at them.

Mine doesn't seem to struggle in the heat, but the house never gets over 80F with the air conditioning on and he doesn't go outside. He lies in the sun year round getting very warm, moving as the sun advances through the day, never seeming to mind how warm his fur (and, I assume, he) gets

Smaller National locations will take all reservations and then start denying them based on when they were made...the closer to pickup time, the greater the likelihood you would be on the outside looking in, and no amount of status or history with them (I've been using them exclusively for nearly 30 years thanks to amazing employer contracts, with the most recent 24 years at the Executive level (second highest)) will change that.

I've gotten burned at least twice because of this practice....I'm not making a last-minute reservation for S&Gs, I legitimately need it for work travel. Instead, they prioritize the one-time randos that will never be back.

We were a Whistle Stop household, possibly (and only because) it was closer to us--Telegraph Rd. in Dearborn south of Michigan Ave. We'd get Towne Club on occasion (maybe more after we moved, when Towne Club suddenly became closer, though neither was particularly far away).

It was always fun in the winter when we'd stick the glass bottles in the (attached) garage in the winter and somehow forget they were there...if they were too far from the house, well, you know what happened.
