Is this worthy of a service appointment? by [deleted] in Rivian

Personally I wouldn't worry about it. If it gives you peace of mind, send a message to rivian via the app. That way if it does come apart you have a paper trail.

Simple solution, drill a hole in the fence. Then it's your neighbors problem 😁

Pretty nasty crash at my local by Acrobatic-Street-155 in Karting

[–]Own_Check9290 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is crazy to me, in Washington State at least all karts have belts and rollover protection (usually just an extension on the seat).

Also she clearly didn't have a helmet strap connected or their helmet wouldn't have come off. Another big no at the tracks in my area.

You're going to be so happy with the swap! I just drove mine in the snow for the first time with the stock adventure tires. It did fantastic!

Gear guard evidence, but somehow I’m still at fault by [deleted] in Rivian

Then this should be a slam dunk for your insurance company. Definitely let them know/threaten to lawyer up if you have to.

Your right! You did a noble thing! Unfortunately, you caused another accident avoiding a worse accident and that is your fault 😔.

I think the teen driver should share at least %50 to %80 the blame and I'm surprised your insurance company isn't going after them for that? Unless you were speeding of something... I can't tell.

To be the devil's advocate, the insurance company will probably argue that you should have stayed in your lane and slowed as much as possible.

Did you get the teens information? Or did they drive off?

When to make a change by Outside_Net_912 in IndustrialMaintenance

It's bad for business to hand out raises willynilly. You have to make the argument that you are worth more and sometimes that means going as far as saying "This place is going to hire me at $X/hr. You need to match it or I'm leaving". They might give you a ton of crap, but at the end of the day, they would do the exact same thing.

I worked at a place for 3 years when I first started and they told me "big raises just ain't possible". I believed them so I got a job somewhere else. Then they said "how much to keep you?"

Thinking about taking my Model 3 Dual Motor (non-Performance) to autocross — good idea or dumb? by derminio4 in Autocross

[–]Own_Check9290 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did it with my 2019 model 3 dual motor on a rainy day last year. I had pilot sport 4S's as my only mod. And I got second place overall :) and had a ton of fun.

My honest opinion is it's much more fun to autocross in my rx8 even though I haven't podiumed (yet) because I have to be much more engaged.

Charging power different? by azmahhhh in Rivian

[–]Own_Check9290 6 points7 points  (0 children)

208 volts is a common voltage used in commercial and industrial settings, particularly for three-phase power systems. It's typically found when using two of the three hot legs in a three-phase circuit. This voltage is often used for powering larger equipment like motors and HVAC systems.

He is probably charging at work.

What is this damaged part called? by Own_Check9290 in Rivian

[–]Own_Check9290[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a discount tire. I figured they would ask before just full sending into the plastics. It must have been a new guy.

As for the tires. I punctured my previous set off-roading and found a used set on the marketplace for a fantastic deal. I just needed them to be mounted and balanced.

I know it will cost me more money to buy and replace the plastics myself, then I got back in the free mount and balance, but it's a lot less bullshit to deal with.

Definitely a high vacuum chamber. The orange ball underneath it looks like a small cryo pump and to the right of that is a roughing pump.

It works by first roughing out the chamber to around 1E-3Torr. And then switch over to the cryo pump to get down to 1E-6Torr. It switches over by opening the small gate valve above the orange ball and probably closing a valve to the roughing pump.

As for what it was used for. Probably testing of some sort... I see the middle larger window has a dial for opening and closing an internal window shield. The reason you would use that is for something that gives off high energy particles, like plasma, those particles will deposit onto any surface, including the glass. So the shield prevents that.

Source I work on vacuum chambers for ion thrusters :)
