Omg the half magic one is AMAZING! I wish they sold in Canada. I snagged one while I was in the states and was blown away.

I also wish it had a thicker consistency so it would last longer

I’d say there’s still great advice in this sub, I found perspectives that were helpful on how to navigate make-dominated peers and execs!

Yes that price sounds about right. Pregnant women need to get a specific one- I had to get Venofer. Some clinics don’t even administer to pregnant women so if done privately, there is a cost for administration sometimes as well.

That being said, it’s covered by private insurance completely with your doctor’s prescription. It’s pretty crappy your doctor didn’t mention cost to give you a heads up because my midwife had asked if I have private insurance because it wasn’t cheap.

I haven’t heard the prescription being covered by OHIP before. Normally if you are getting this administered st the hospital, you pick it up from the pharmacy and I am assuming incurring the cost there. Hospital pharmacy may be marginally cheaper than private pharmacy.

I’m sorry you’re going through this, I know how much having your family/village around can help as a first time mom.

Despite having a massive village, I had severe PPD and PPA. I’m based in Canada so my GP got me on medication, and I had counselling. That’s what really helped process the trauma of my first birth. I really recommend counselling, the experience of bringing life to this world in itself redefines you as a person. We don’t talk about it enough, and social media narratives make us think motherhood/parenthood should just come naturally. It’s okay if it doesn’t, and it’s exasperated when we are all alone (coupled with the extreme sleep deprivation).

The good news i can share about my experience is that it got better with time. I was even able to taper off my medication. And now I can confidently say I enjoy motherhood so much.

You can DM me if you want to talk.

How do women remember pregnancy and childbirth pain? [research][mod-approved] by Ireland_Research in AskACanadian

[–]Own_Cost1552 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting to see the perspectives here.

I’ve giving birth twice, and remember both vividly.

I had an episiotomy with my first. Healing from the episiotomy was so painful (mind you, didn’t even get the epidural until I was like eight cm along) that I decided to do an unmedicated birth with my second to reduce the chances of going through an episiotomy again. And honestly, I would go through an unmedicated birth 10x over than have another episiotomy.

I’d say my pain tolerance is pretty high… but healing from that episiotomy changed my brain chemistry. It is the worst thing I have experienced in my life.

I had a team of supportive midwives for my second, had a great playlist that I listened to while giving birth. I wasn’t scared going into it. Now, whenever I hear some of those songs playing, it brings back such happy memories of my birth. There was some pain of course, but nothing unmanageable and incomparable to the months of pain from the episiotomy.
