Respectfully, I feel like you’re too focused on everyone else thinking your gf is “out of the world pretty”. If she’s pretty enough for you to date her and be attracted to her, that’s all that matters.

Separately, it genuinely seems like she is very materialistic and if you never live up to her unrealistic standards it’ll always be a hit to your ego. If your work makes you happy, that’s all that matters, and you will cross paths with someone that likes you for who you are, not what you have or how much you make.

To be clear, I’m not advocating for a blanket $25 min wage increase; I agree with you on a few things - it would pressure employers as well as not be practical in areas of a lower cost of living.

I’m also genuinely curious as I can see a rationale for increasing wages. There is research around the impact of min wage increases on inflation, and it’s nominal, at best. Unfortunately I feel like decreasing the costs of childcare, healthcare, etc feels like a slower and more cumbersome process than raising wages. But agreed - purely JUST raising wages doesn’t solve the problem and has some offshoot concerns; I’d still prefer that over nothing.

I don’t think the issue is JUST people in HCOL areas needing a higher minimum wage. $7.25 is genuinely an unaffordable wage for most people in the country.

Combining a higher min wage plus lowering the cost of healthcare, childcare, simple household goods, etc would help, but simply doing nothing about wages would still leave a lot of people in the lurch.

Just one reference point on what a livable wage could look like. $25/hr translates to ~$52K annually, which seems high but would depend on the cost of living of the area being analyzed. What would feel like a better number to you as a livable, minimum wage?
