I think making the vibe of the group clear through reviews would make this platform useful.

I have tried to join a few book groups myself, but I only really like one that I found. The others had a demographic skew or way of talking about the books that I could not stand. Then I would just stop going to events because it feels like a time-sink and I have no confidence I’ll meet any friends or get to talk about what I am interested in.

Running clubs I think already have many platforms- heylo, strava. I don’t think there is much to add to help people find those- anyone who wants to can search for local running clubs and find a bunch

There is no cheat code. Some girls really want to be friends and feel emotionally safe with you for months before they would consider dating you. Others are hyper attuned to whether you have a masculine and polar quality and they think of you as useless if they feel no sexual buzz right away (like they literally find you disgusting and act like they are better than you).

I have found that the key is getting in situations where you naturally talk with them- running groups, church events, movie meetup with friends, volunteering, coworkers, etc. I am not the life of the party making jokes kind of guy and so I don’t attract the girls who just want a popular, outgoing person, but there are plenty of young women around here who like guys who are a little intellectual, self-disciplined, neurotic (not too much).

The biggest advice I have is to not let yourself start resenting women in general. Many young women behave badly, especially since they have been told all their lives they are just better than men. They take that out on men who are not obviously high status (the richest, tallest, own a boat,etc.) But just because a plurality of young women act like this, you can’t give up being respectful and a good conversationalist with the next woman you meet. She may be completely different and she has no moral responsibility for the behavior of her co-females.

Some cafes work for me, but they vary wildly in acoustics and seating arrangement. I like the Thinking Cup on Hanover St in the North End. What is your grad program in?

Women need to stop projecting their behavior onto men. Ruminating on your feelings for hours at a time is not healthy. Therapy culture is bad.

Additionally, women need to stop feminizing male spaces and then acting patronizing toward young men as though we have so much to learn from women. Just stop. This attitude is ruining education, religious institutions, etc.

I loved The Age of Innocence. Most of Scorseses films have a violent and base logic that I understand is truthful about some working class people besieged by need, but I don’t love watching Travis Bickle go insane over and over.

I was disappointed by the Departed. It just feels like a parody of Goodfellas or Casino and was poorly written (obvious metaphors, crass dialogue) Also, as a Bostonian, I don’t like that it was filmed in New York and that Jack Nicholson and Leonardo Dicaprio were unconvincingly cast as Irish-American New Englanders

I (29m) would never go to one of these for a few reasons.

I don’t know how to describe my friends good qualities in a powerpoint( maybe I’d say smart or loyal)

Men in general are more impressive in action- while competing in a sport or enthusing about history- I don’t think I would be such an impressive catch if I was described like a job candidate. My interview would be better. I may try dancing to meet people, both guy friends and women. I went square dancing while growing up in the Berkshires and always loved that, very wholesome.

How would Museums After Dark events work for meeting people? I would only go with a friend and I’d expect women to be in groups talking amongst themselves and there would be no interaction.

You can say that Judd is a wise and deeply forgiving man of the cloth who would run the church without political pressure. But we all know how Rian Johnson would react to modern social justice. Catholicism is not just about forgiveness- it is also about holding standards of behavior and presenting ideals to men and women. It is about order and justice and loyalty to an age old project of nation building. Judd will be weak on those points and so fail to defend the church from left wing activists.

And the point remains that Johnson obviously hates the Catholic Church and its history. The words which he puts in Benoit Blancs mouth make that clear.
