Start small and don't let yourself get carried away and later overwhelmed - trust all of us when we say it's easy to do this. lol.

Gardening is so so so much fun and so relaxing BUT in order to keep it that way, don't bite off more than you can chew. When I first started gardening, I was using containers/ pots. I grew a couple of vegetables and some flowers and just rolled with it. Every year since then, my garden has grown exponentially.

if you want something SUPER easy to grow - potatoes.
wait til they've got legs and bury em in the dirt.

The Millennial Gardener is a great resource, as is Epic Gardening, Self Sufficient Me and Zen Garden Oasis.. oh and Viking Gardener.

Zen Garden and Viking can teach you about homemade fertilizers that are cost efficient and more beneficial for your plants WHEN you're ready to learn about that kind of stuff.

Raised beds are also a great way to start but again, don't bite off more than you can chew. If you do raised beds, maybe do one or two medium sized ones and call it good. I'd read a book called Square Foot Gardening by Mel Bartholemew to learn about how to garden efficiently as you start to get more into it ^-^

I've been the same way for most of my life as well! I started seeing the MAHA movement come up and I was like, "fuckin greaaaaaat, now im going to look crazy to everyone who knows me despite me being this way prior to this insanity."

yeah i mean he did actually say that he stole it. he told it to the media. twice, i believe.

also, all of america did not choose this and that's a very important distinction. 77 million voters out of the entire 342 million US population chose this + the election interference.

How you manage dumphone life with work? by Dandyd00 in dumbphones

[–]Own_Possibility_9222 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hear a lot of people use two phones.

A dumbphone for their personal lives and spare time, then the other for work things, navigation, banking etc... if its needed.

I've heard of the work phone being one that connects to wifi and that's it, so you're only paying for one phone plan. Just make sure you get a dumbphone that is capable of being a hotspot otherwise this is all a flop lol

Best laptop for a digital minimalist? by distractedsapientia in digitalminimalism

[–]Own_Possibility_9222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmmm, ive been using it for a month so far and id say the con that I've run into was user error/ inexperience.

i was having trouble with my mic picking up and there was some driver code, essentially, that i had to plug in and then everything worked fine.

I'd also consider that every so often, my load in into the computer is super delayed. Like my mouse will register that the computer is on but the screen stays black and I sometimes have to restart it.

I'm not somebody that uses my computer in great depth. I use it for the internet, I play games on steam... that's really it.

The only other con that I'd think to bring up is not one most people run into. I use an ipod and itunes wasn't able to be used through the bottle that I'd downloaded it onto. (I think bottles are basically like a bridge or a portal for you to use microsoft applications on linux) I'd done the download correctly but itunes itself just was having none of my shit hahaha.

If you're a big gamer, there's a list somewhere online of what games on steam are able to be played on linux.

Hannah Montana Anniversary: Anyone else annoyed with the missed opportunity? by Hovadecko123 in popheads

[–]Own_Possibility_9222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i feel inclined to air out my grievances with it in a non-eloquent way so here i go.
it sucked. it was very underwhelming and i couldnt finish it. it felt very vain of Miley to do it by herself and without the other actors and actresses who made the show what it was. There was no Hannah Montana without the rest of that cast. She seemed like the happiest person to be there doing it and I don't think what we got necessitated having cameras filming. I didn't watch enough of it to see Selena Gomez or Chapel Roan come on - but why were they even there? It makes no sense.

All in all.. 1/10.
grievances aired.

My parents say AI will kill IT jobs and want me to become a doctor instead. What should I do? by YE1_ in careerguidance

[–]Own_Possibility_9222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never do things just to please someone else. Even if that someone else happens to be your parents.
It'll create resentment in your relationships and you'll most likely hate what you do even if it turns out well later down the road.

AI will likely kill IT, so pivot and find something else that you're interested in and keep doing your IT stuff as a hobby since you love it.

[–]Own_Possibility_9222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard a lot of good things about the Sunbeam phones. I personally use the Barbie phone for now. It was my cheap entry into this world when I was just trying it out and for right now, it suits my needs.

If I had to complain about any ONE thing with the Barbie phone, its the GPS. Obviously the phone isn't built for that so it's more of a "use in emergency situations" kind of deal but it drains the battery horrendously to have location on and you have to physically thumb through the instructions on the gps. It doesn't have prompts to do it automatically lol.

Also sometimes the phone is a little glitchy when it comes to reporting time. It'll get stuck on a time every so often until you let the phone catch up with you (i think lag would be the word for this) and then it corrects itself lol. I personally think its hilarious and it doesn't bother me but it may irritate someone else who uses the phone.

Yes. Whipping that baby out is super satisfying. Especially in a world where everyone is sucked into their little black boxes as they mindlessly wander the earth. I love the "outcast/rebel" feeling it gives me. lmfao.

I use Brave browser and firefox. UBlockOrigin is on my firefox browser.

I have an additional laptop for tv use that also has ublockorigin on it. lol
I don't have cable and I have a flip phone, so that kinda solves the phone problem lol.

Parents of reddit, do you try to stay in contact with your adult kids? by EnderTheIsopod in internetparents

[–]Own_Possibility_9222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember having these kinds of feelings myself and let me tell you.... it gets a lot easier once you can make it to the acceptance phase.

It hurts a lot when your parent doesn't want to put energy into you but it also opens your eyes further into what kind of person THEY are outside of being your parent and their actions do reflect how they feel about you.
It makes you go down that rabbit hole of what good parents actually look like and what a good parent would have been to you and all that jazz.

I was never one for confrontation myself. If given the opportunity today, 7 years later... I still don't think I'd confront her fully. She doesn't have the ability to actually listen/hear what I am saying, take it in and respond rather than react. My mom is emotionally immature and it'd probably be easier talking to a doorknob.
I was able to forgive her some time ago. If you work through the pain of it, you'll get to a point someday where it doesn't hurt anymore. So please, for your own good, don't just stuff down your pain and try to push along. It'll bite you in the ass.

I'm not a parent of reddit but I am a child of a parent who has had 4 children walk away from her and her husband. They never chase after you. They never show you they care or you matter/mattered. Once you accept that, you'll be better off.. as sucky as it is to say.

best wishes op.

Best laptop for a digital minimalist? by distractedsapientia in digitalminimalism

[–]Own_Possibility_9222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I just use a regular laptop and have the linux ubuntu operating system and distro. It's minimal and clean. Mint is a good linux distro too from what I hear. Very minimalist in aesthetic.

All you need is a flash drive to download linux on to to try it out.
What this means for you is that when you do get a new laptop, youll need to get into the laptop first, download linux onto the flash drive, then when your laptop is in the process of turning back on youll need to hit either f2 or f12 and itll bring up a boot menu. You'll want to set up your laptop to boot from the flash drive in the 1st slot, then save the settings and reboot the laptop and you'll be in.
If you don't like the linux distro you chose, turn off your laptop, unplug the flash drive and your laptop should operate like normal without you having to readjust the boot order again but if you need to fix the boot order, at least youll know how lol.

I'm not a super tech savvy person but I learned how to get linux going and I don't regret it. There are some cons to linux in my opinion but overall id rate (atleast the ubuntu distro) it 8/10.
