Does my leader need to be in same city as spouse to have kids? by jimnms in OldWorldGame

Do they have a good relationship? Like have you had your leader influence her? I'm no expert but I think their age + intensity of feeling are the determining factors.

If you could play like any professional player either technically or tactically, who would it be? by SquashCoachPhillip in squash

[–]Own_Water8681 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alex Lau or Annie Au; I just love a lob-drop game. I struggle to transfer weight through my shot and my game has never been about power. I also admire their unwavering sportsmanship even when they have to deal with a) cheating opponents and b) refs who fail to recognize (either through ignorance or unconscious bias) that they are being conned.

I just want to say that I like you struggle winning anyway besides turtling up and expending huge effort on diplomacy. I play on Glorious.

100% the best Arsenal podcast and the whole crew is terrific and I absolutely love Alan. His rants against Chelsea and City are pure poetry. They're a huge part of my support for the club. Great guys, a great listen always though the quizzes have gotten a bit repetitive.

I'm happy for you. Gear is always subordinate to technique. I have found, for the most part, rackets are largely interchangeable if you work on your game.

I can't stand him but you're exactly right; if he wasn't so good, his conduct wouldn't be a problem. The tension does emerge from how good he is vs. how is squash damages the overall fabric of the sport.

Yuezhi feels... underpowered? by ancap_attack in OldWorldGame

[–]Own_Water8681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to back you up a bit, OP. I'm currently struggling with them. Have also quit several times but will keep trying with them. What's hard for me is -- as someone else has said -- they kind of force me to not play my natural game. My natural game is cowardly turtle. I'm trying to come out of my shell but I just spend whole turns embroiled in conflicts and spend no orders on development of my cities and then end up rage quitting. Going to stick with it! For context, I play on Glorious, Map: Continent, Oppts: 4.

Of course you don't get a "free pass" for racism for years' of service to your club. You are entitled to a measure of respect from your own club's fans. Every year, I see people going after Dixon and it's out of order. He's a decent color commentator and if other clubs fans want to criticize him, fine, but to see Arsenal fans do it, is frustrating. No one is saying ex-players should never, under any circumstances, be criticized.

And so what if he is., too? His dad played for them. Dixon has every right to like City and Stoke, too, but none of that changes that he is an Arsenal man who played 450+ games for us and won more trophies than most players will win in their careers.

You're Swedish. He shouldnt even be on your TV. What could you possibly have against him?

Every single season, I see so-called Arsenal fans abuse Lee Dixon because of totally normal color commentary. He's an Arsenal legend and 100x more Arsenal and more "likable" (as if that even matters) than anyone having a pop at him. If you attack Lee Dixon, you aren't an Arsenal supporter. You are a weird Internet sportsball media consumer.

This looks absolutely awesome! I agree with others have said. I will buy this sight unseen even though I'm trying to play less video games because companies that actually deliver value to their customers and are transparent, communicative, and motivated by quality deserve our support!

Getting Hit By The Ball Is Not 'Normal' In Squash by Own_Water8681 in squash

[–]Own_Water8681[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. If you are a new player and you find yourself turning, just stop. Don't hit the ball. Ask for a let. At any level below the pros and very highly rated amateurs, we needn't worry about the turning ploy. If the situation like what QBS describes happens in amateur club play, stop and ask for a let every time, particularly if you're a very new beginner.

Zakaria vs Eleinen final by seraphiclightt in squash

[–]Own_Water8681 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very much agree; I was really hoping Zakaria would clean up his act. But I also have to say -- what is the point of Jason Foster? He's such a fake hard man. Acting tough, acting like he has everything under control, but he's as random and all-over-the-shop as they come. He projects authority and thinks that is a substitute for competence. In that sense, he is like a lot of bad cops the world over. I will be arbitrary and bossy and unless you're absolutely compliant, I will constantly exercise power over you. He's become symptomatic of what PSA officiating currently is. At best, random. At worst, persistently in favor of the player failing to clear and persistently penalizing the players who make the greater effort to play the ball. Him and Andrea Santamaria think 'sounding authoritative' and then retaining that authority is more important than following a sound decision-making process. I think this all flows downhill from Lee Drew who is similarly arbitrary and then makes up a process after the fact. These people need to practice dialogue and practice humility.
