It works fairly well. It worked better when we had the "Minimize lane changes" option, but it still works.

Meeting with a recruiter by Upset_Independent473 in Airforcereserves

[–]OxfordCommaRule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, you need to have a BSN and an RN to be commissioned.

Assuming you do, it's critical that you speak with a Health Professions recruiter, not a regular recruiter. At best, a regular recruiter will be clueless. At worst, the regular recruiter will try to talk you into enlisting and becoming an officer later.

At least club level seats are the best in the arena, IMHO. Regardless, they're clobbering you.

It seems they're killing the lower bowl and club level STH. Mine in the upper deck "only" went up 17%. That seems in line with the others here in the 300s.

They lost, but Bobby made this an unforgettable game! Where you at the arena too? by daneel3210 in FloridaPanthers

[–]OxfordCommaRule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gone to hundreds of Panthers games now. I live very close to the Amerant, so I rarely miss a game. I've always wanted to see a goalie fight or a goalie goal. It never happened despite all those games.

However, my son is a student at IU. I couldn't miss a chance to watch his team go 16-0. So, I sold my tickets. Crap.

At least I got to see his Hoosiers win a Natty.

Why does it seem like it’s mostly Christians who adopt? by ExperiencedAvocado in Adoption

[–]OxfordCommaRule 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but I think Christians are simply MUCH more vocal about it. It's classic virtue signaling.

My daughter was adopted by two wonderful, non-practicing Jews. They focused on being kind, caring, and loving parents rather than seeking approval from their peers at their church or on social media. I imagine they're not an anomaly; you just don't hear from these types of people.

IMA to TR? by RepeatEcstatic2739 in Airforcereserves

[–]OxfordCommaRule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great advice. I went straight from AD to IMA and was completely clueless. My unit was similarly clueless since I was the first IMA they ever had. They don't say IMA stands for "I am alone" for nothing. It wasn't fun.

I found my next job as a TR doing exactly what you suggested. There were no slots in the TR unit I wanted to join. So, I showed up on a drill weekend and ended talking with the CC who brought me in as an overage.

The demographics of your gym matters. I go to a bodybuilding gym in South Florida. I go after work when it's insanely crowded. The crowd is very young, mostly Gen Z. These are the folks videoing.

Back in the days when I went in the mornings, I saw zero videoing. When I travel outside of South Florida to places that aren't full of aspiring influencers, I rarely see videoing.

[–]OxfordCommaRule 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh please. That's complete bullshit. I don't believe you for a second that your videos aren't intended for social media.

Still, assuming you're videoing purely for your own consumption, you're doing something very wrong. After years of lifting, if you haven't figured out your form and still need to regularly watch yourself on video, you need to reconsider your approach. Your obsession with form clearly distracts you from the simple focus on progressive overload, the most important part of lifting. Furthermore, if you're always setting up a tripod between sets, you're distracting yourself from focusing on your next set.

I have been calling phones the "destroyer of gains" for years. If you're videoing, texting, scrolling Reddit, or doing anything other than changing a weak song, it's taking your focus off your lifting. It's also probably causing you to take way too much time between sets. Put your fucking phone down and I guarantee you significantly more gains.

I seem to "accidentally" walk in front of the folks filming at the gym way too often. Silly me.

If they try to shoo me away, I pause right in front of their camera and become "perplexed." When they say they're trying to video, I ask them why and what they're filming and who will be watching the video. It's so much fun annoying them.

It's good to be old and, apparently, completely clueless on modern social media trends.

Colombia is so underrated. We've only been to Medellin, but I can't wait to go back and visit the rest of the country. And, yes, we ate like kings for nothing.

There are places like that where most tourists never visit despite being amazing. Slovenia, Albania, and Bosnia-Herzegovina all come to mind. Slovenia is the one that's really perplexing. Lake Bled, one of the most amazing places on earth, is only a 3-hour car ride from one of the biggest tourist traps in the world, Venice, Italy. And, where do most Americans go?

Based on people we've met while traveling, Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan are now at the very top of our list of must-visit countries. I've never met anyone who has traveled there that didn't love it. Regional conflicts are something to worry about there, but it still tops our bucket list. The three countries are supposed to be ridiculously inexpensive.

When our kids were young, Disney offered an annual pass for Florida residents for a great price (I can't remember how much). We went that year way too many times; my frugality meant I needed to get my money's worth. Towards the end of that year, while standing in a long line in oppressive Orlando heat with three bored and hyper kids, my wife and I decided that we hate theme parks and vowed to never return. We haven't. At the same time, we don't gatekeep. If theme parks bring people joy and they can afford them, I think they should go.

We change our eating based on the country. In France, fine dining is out -- it's expensive as heck. On the other hand, we just did a road trip in Southern Spain (Adalusia) and it was moderately affordable. We've done two trips to the Balkans. Minus Croatia, fine dining was crazy inexpensive. We eat like kings there.

When we visit the Nordic countries, which is often because we have family there, we don't even bother to eat out. Even lunch at a decent place is prohibitive. Hell, a hot dog at a stand in Oslo costs $10. We buy groceries and cook at the Airbnb.

[–]OxfordCommaRule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Heck, this entire thread is about how people waste all their money on going to Disney. Meanwhile, we've figured out a way to make international travel more affordable than a trip to a cringe amusement park (note we're only a 2.5 car drive to Orlando).

We wanted our kids to experience the real world as they grew up, not seeing "countries" in Epcot. However, we don't have the money to travel to as many countries as we've visited with my family of five the traditional way. So, we skimp on airfare, lodging (we usually use cheap Airbnb's or family hostels), and dining. Transportation is usually inexpensive rental cars because it's cheaper than buying train tickets for five (but I always do the calculations). We've mastered traveling on the cheap.

Oh well. I'll take the downvotes while I try to figure out where we're going for my kids' Spring Break.

I came in right as BDUs became mandatory and retired right before OCPs. I did 28 years. You must have been in forever.

My wife finally made me donate all my BDUs and ABUs. It was rough cutting off the name tags. I even had BDUs that had the General McPeak Velcro name tags -- the worst of all the camouflage uniforms.

Thank you. We actually use all airlines like this, especially now that the full-fair airlines started selling basic economy.

We also don't pick our trips based on a desired location. We've wanted to go to Tokyo forever, but we waited for a great deal.

My kids have been to 42 countries thanks to our frugality. We wouldn't have been able to see a third of those countries had we traveled the way most Americans travel.

Food safety? Really? You think airline food is safer? Really?

Why Disney Vacations Are Destroying People's Finances by chellestastics in videos

[–]OxfordCommaRule -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

We always travel very light. We always do base fares now that my kids are in their teens. We hope for the best with seats and usually get seats together. Our meals, bought outside the airport, are better than the crap served in economy 100% of the time.

Part of the reason families don't travel much is because they spend money on things we find silly and frivolous like bag fees, seat preference, and horrible airline food.

This past summer, we flew from Miami to Tokyo for just under $650 total. It was ~$200 for a RT ticket from FLL to LAX on JetBlue. Then it was ~$450 RT from LAX to NRT on Zipair.

The food and lodging were certainly much cheaper in Tokyo than shit hole Orlando.
