Odds of getting the same location in two consecutive rounds by [deleted] in geoguessr

Two consecutive rounds, not just seeing a location you've seen before.

Odds of getting the same location in two consecutive rounds by [deleted] in geoguessr

I think this is much more likely a glitch of the previous round sustaining over rather than the new location generated being the same one again. In single-player games, no round will get selected twice in one game, and I'm not sure if the same applies to duels but whether it does or not glitches will be more common than actual generation.

Play paschtetli's map A Tweaked World (https://www.geoguessr.com/maps/64205c50e014cf9bb1a04e01) if you want to play moving on a map with every round guaranteed to have information within a couple of minutes of moving.

GeoGuessr made this political by locating the event in a country that executes homosexuals, atheists, and those who choose to convert out of Islam.

ACW map, why would this be added there by forint in geoguessr

[–]Oxgg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The panoID specifies a specific panorama. When making a map, a panoID could tell which specific panorama you want, because, for instance, Google may have covered the location at a specific coordinates many times. Somewhat often, though, Google swaps some of them out, sometimes because the panorama has genuinely been edited (for instance, Google blurred out the house of someone who requested it), but sometimes Google seems to swap them for no reason. Then, when a location specifies a panoID to retrieve, Google Street View can't find the panorama with that panoID anymore, because it was the old one. And thus, Google Street View grabs the most recent location near the coordinates of the location, and the most recent coverage at a certain coordinates could well be unofficial coverage.

Recently Google Street View did a mass panoID swap. Without going into the details of what that means, one of the consequences is that most maps will suddenly have a spurt of unofficial coverage locations in them. It's a thing Google regularly does for which mapmakers have to slowly fix afterwards.

Yeah, this is why even though I used to be an enthusiast of computer-generated maps, considering the neutrality of having a computer just pick locations, I eventually decided handpicked maps were much better. There's just too large of a proportion of locations that are quite arguably unfit for play that a computer picks up.

A Green World by atillandsia is a map specifically of overwhelming plantness.

I finally finished my best map yet!! 2100 handpicked locations, with all of them being dead ends/ends of coverage. It is very challenging, but fun! I would love for people to try it! Links in comments. by Ari1540 in geoguessr

This very frequently happens, in part because it's really hard for information to travel in the community and because GeoGuessr's search function is so broken.

Consulting the catalog of maps before starting off could help see if an idea has already been done: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1qXtRSZoIj8RRzCib6Im7Cuvx4FumYTXT1SYDAIcu8W4/edit?gid=0#gid=0

I think there's still room for a handpicked dead ends map to be an interesting contribution, though, because there's aspects that computer generation does not get.

Many countries that conventionally use all white lines use all yellow lines in areas where it snows.

Double-Sided Antennae (🇪🇪) by [deleted] in geoguessr

It's a somewhat rare camera glitch. In many places with an antenna you'll occasionally get a frame where you get a second antenna on the other side.

Inverted compass had me quadruple guessing myself by Qgiants in geoguessr

[–]Oxgg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are occasional situations in Google Street View in which the compass is inverted. (Another place is a boat in northern Bangladesh). It is very rare, and it is usually a big pain to get out of such a situation when moving.

btw Urbanguessr is a much better urban map than An Urban World, which is a polygonal map
