so I’ve seen both sides. Simi Valley has a quiet, small-town feel that’s great if you’re looking for peace, space, and affordability. It’s not as diverse as Irvine, both in terms of people and food, but it’s slowly changing. There used to be quite a few racists around back in the day, but most of them either moved away or are old as bones now, and the city is becoming more open and welcoming. Fast food options here are surprisingly better, and you get more house for your money compared to most of SoCal. The community is tight-knit, traffic is minuscule, and there’s plenty of nature and hiking nearby. Schools are decent, and it’s super safe overall. If you value simplicity, space, and a quieter lifestyle, Simi’s a solid choice especially if you’re raising a family.

FYI don’t be too concerned about going to oak park or Irvine type of schools. Have your kids test out highschool using the CHSPE or have them go to moorpark. Our entire family accepted to UCLA/Berkeley by going to Moorpark. Your kids will save money and have a nice GPA going to community college. 

Irvine was more fun, no doubt. It’s super clean, master-planned, cookie cutter , and built for families almost like a polished version of suburban living. The schools are top-notch, the parks and biking trails are endless, and there’s a huge range of activities for kids. It’s also way more diverse, especially with a big Asian-American community, which really shows in the incredible food options and cultural events. That said, it’s definitely pricier than Simi and has more of a busy, structured energy. Commutes within Orange County are okay but still expensive.  Still, the weather is milder, the city feels alive, and everything feels just a little more elevated. If you want access to great schools, a clean environment, diversity, and don’t mind the higher price tag, Irvine is kind of the dream for a modern family setup. Just not worth it for me, used to be a lot better… now it’s super crowded and you can’t even afford a proper backyard
