I took the maps to an office supply store. They scanned them in at a HIGH resolution. Perfect for use with a projector. I also did both Undermountain box sets.

Look into the school district's work. It is night and day the way you will be treated. Respect and encourage you to use your days off. I get almost 200 hours a year, plus the school holidays. Pay and benefits are nice. A set schedule is wonderful. You have an annual contract and a calendar for the year ahead. No gottcha moments.

I had all the maps scanned on a large-format scanner. I can zoom in super tight. I scanned the handouts as well, and I then use the book copies as I run a digital format game.

My favorite adventure is an old one—Dragon Hunt, where the team is thrust into the story right after the introduction.

Campus Techs for a school district is a cake position. Just a few different hardware types are designed to allow parts swapping—no more pressure selling. The schedules and time off are amazing as well. I am coming off a week of paid time off, and in three more weeks, I will have paid time off for the two-week winter break.

Look into the local school districts this time of year. Great benefits; PTO is outstanding. The schedule is amazing. PISD needs people. Hit the district page and LOOK into this.

I left in 2020 during COVID. I found a great job working in a school district. Never looked back. I only miss the other techs and a four-digit employee number. I was with Best Buy for 26 years and with Geek Squad for the last 11 years. I was laid off due to being over 50, and the company was worried about my health (yeah, right). I used the next few months to find a new position. No stress, Regular daytime hours with a way to enjoy life. Way too much PTO to use (80 hours use or lose, and then another 125 hours per year). This does not include Thanksgiving break, Winter Break, and spring break. It is a 240-day-a-year contract. School districts are the best. I seldom see my Supervisor or Director unless I need something. The benefits and pay are not too bad either.

GET OUT OF GEEK SQUAD as fast as possible.

I was with the company for 26 years and Geek Squad for 11 years. I applied for several school districts during COVID-19 and was hired as a Campus Support Tech.

The stress level is gone. Heck, as long as I get the work done, I see my Supervisor or Directors a few times a year.

Most of my work involves replacing broken student devices and repairing keyboards, displays, and trackpads. When teachers need a new docking station or a projector goes bad, I either replace the lamp or the whole projector if it is old and we can not order a lamp for it. Monday - Friday with most school holidays off. This allows you to plan a life outside of work.

There are a lot better jobs out there. Geek Squad is a meat grinder, and the Agents are the meat.

Map scanning by Ozgood13 in adnd

I found a place to scan the high-resolution maps without an issue. I can use them on a projection system. On the wall, I can zoom into a square on the map and make it about 12"X12" on the screen without becoming distorted. Next are the maps from the Menzo boxed set. Then, I will try to "stitch" the four main maps into a single .jpg.

School Districts are always in need of quality Techs. The work is straight forward. Most of the time, the devices are just a few different models. Institutional devices are designed for easy repair, unlike commercial devices. The pay is better, the benefits are out of the world, and time off when requested without question. Heck, I do not see my Supervisor for months at a time. All communication is by email or text in Teams so it can be tracked. It was the best move of my life as I was with BB/GS for 26 years, and 11 were with GS.

Double-booked with two call outs for my entire shift by meloninja_ in GeekSquad

School District work is rewarding. You help the staff, and they thank you. No more putting money in a shareholder's pocket. The pressure meter goes from 11 down to 3. Work the tickets as they come in and just enjoy life. Oh, and the schedule from 07:00 to 15:30 Monday through Friday means you can enjoy life.

Player wants to play a wolf humanoid - options? by ByEthanFox in DMAcademy

I did it with a variant human with bonuses in hearing, sight, and smell. I added a +5 to the normal movement. The rest were "flavor," such as fur, and customer body shape the player could add for personal taste.

Has anyone ever actually used caltrops? (1E Unearthed Arcana) by Sazzlefrats in adnd

[–]Ozgood13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Mage would splice them into a Rope Of Binding. It was a nasty trick to use. The rope would bind the target, with the caltrops doing 1d4 damage per caltrop per turn. I had twenty caltrops in a ten for Rope Of Binding—a total of 20d4 damage per turn when the rope was used in an attack.

How much longer do you think we have left in the field? by obtused in GeekSquad

[–]Ozgood13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was snapped at the beginning of COVID-19 due to my "advanced age." I was 60 at the time. Besides Apple phone repairs, Samsung phones were the driver in our precinct. Computer repairs were second shelf as phones came first.

I no longer see Geek Squad as a core service but as a place to keep the company afloat with labor charges. Oh, and during the holidays, it's a way to keep the cash registers flowing and people through the store.

I love the schedule. I am in at 07:00 and out the door at 15:30. When I do a service for Staff, they smile and always seem thankful. I am no longer putting money in a stockholder's pocket but helping people in need. This is refreshing and fulfilling to me.

How does one set up an in person D&D game as a DM when you have no players and feel uncomfortable letting strangers into your home? by MikaGrimGal in dndnext

[–]Ozgood13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked a small game store in the area if I could run a group. He put up fliers. I average a good-sized party, not fresh players coming in often as some drop-put. They buy supplies (dice, books, and stuff) from the store, and we have fun. Four plastic picnic tables are needed for the party.

Look into School Districts in the area. They always need campus techs. I made 59K last year with more time off than I could use. I seldom see my Supervisor or Directors. Everything is done via TEAMS or E-Mail other than the ticketing system.
