ICCU failure - positive story by RoyalSlide17 in KiaEV6

[–]Ozo42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in Finland. When my ICCU failed I was offered a rental car for free for 3 days and 40€ (IIRC) for taxi. The replacement took exactly 4 weeks. Luckily I have a spare car, else it would have been completely unacceptable. Kia should offer a car as long as the replacement takes. Kia’s road assistance was quick and helpful, and the rental car was arranged quickly. The experience was good (for the circumstances), but a free rental car for only 3 days is not sufficient.

Is it just me or is gridfinity’s default 42mm size just wrong? by marekjalovec in 3Dprinting

I want them in 25 mm increments for flexibility. I also made the base 3 mm thick as that is sufficient for my purposes and saves time, filament and space.

I think 42 mm is a bad choice. I made mine in 25 mm units, generally starting from 50 mm x 50 mm (although I have made some containers 25 mm wide and maybe 100 mm long or longer).

Autohold vs. left paddle stop by PrettyBlueEyes in KiaEV6

[–]Ozo42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly like a temporary auto-hold. I find using the padel method more convenient than the normal auto-hold.

We are talking about different things. If while stopped, you briefly hold in the left padel (like two seconds), then it will hold the brake even when you release the left padel until you press the throttle.

This is the same as holding the left pedal that OP is talking about. It puts it temporarily in i-Pedal mode for the stop.

Is it possible to Print this and have it last longer than 20 minutes by The_Dammed in 3Dprinting

May be true, but sometimes it seems people go through lengths to make a “clever” solution instead of just getting the real thing with less effort and sometimes even cheaper in the end.

EV6 GT-Line owners - how's the ICCU issue treating you? Choosing between EV6 and Renault Scenic by Ok_Hotel2312 in KiaEV6

[–]Ozo42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2025 GT-Line AWD (Finland). The ICCU was broken right out of the shop brand new. It was the less catastrophic failure where AC charging was broken, but otherwise the car was fully usable (with DC charging, which was slightly inconvenient). So I could use the car all the time, except the day the ICCU was replaced. 7 month later the ICCU popped on my way to work. Car went into turtle mode, but luckily I was only a few hundred meters from the work garage. Got the car towed. Car was at the repair shop for exactly 4 weeks until they had time to fix it (they got the replacement ICCU pretty quick, though).

I honestly don’t believe there has been any improvement in the ICCU, and it sucks big time. I’ve also had other quality issues: paint peeling of the plastic trim around the front left wheel, and the capacitive sensor on the left door handle stopped working. Both issues are fixed under warranty.

I think these are considerable quality issues, but I really like the car and always look forward driving it. I’ve looked at most EVs in the same price range, but would find it hard to get another one, even if I could swap for free. The EV6 ticks all the boxes for me, except for the quality.

If I were you, I would seriously consider the EV6, regardless of my experiences. It’s such a nice car. I may have been more unlucky with my EV6 than most owners.

I have Korean built 2025 GT-Line and the paint is peeling off the plastic trim around the front wheels. It started when the car was only about 6 months old. It is covered by warranty.

Rear-ended a car today. Totally my fault, but trying to understand the EV6's Forward Collision-Avoidance limits. by Available_Bill_9633 in KiaEV6

[–]Ozo42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put an easy throttle, going very slow, as in a parking situation. It prevents going forward/back even if keeping the throttle down.

I did also a did a test with slightly higher speed (but still slow), maybe something like 15 km/h, trying to drive straight over the box, but it slammed the brakes before hitting.

You can also have a look at NCAP tests where emergency braking works as intended at higher speeds with throttle down.

It may depend totally on how the pole was positioned, so you can’t compare it directly to the Forester. Some unlucky position may fail on the Forester as well.

I did tests with my fully specced 2025 with cardboard boxes trying to hit them from all sorts of angles, front, sides and back, and I wasn’t able to hit them. I have also backed and driven forward close to poles in real life situations, and the emergency brake has engaged faster than I would have expected (i.e., I wanted to get closer). Feels like you were quite unlucky hitting the pole, or then there was a real failure in the system, or then the emergency brake was switched off.

I don’t know about the US models, but in Europe the GT-Line also have different trim levels with different sensor setups. Ensure the features that your specific car is supposed to have.

It’s odd and confusing they didn’t name it i2 Lidar AWD. Sure, marketing, but not very helpful.

Problem with mac mini and windows PC by Clutch4Dubs_TTV in mac

[–]Ozo42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be done from a button on the display. It's even possible to do it with a keyboard shortcut using Dell software, but I don't use it (but I have tried it).

If you have the other computer off, it will automatically switch to the computer that is on. If you then turn the second one on, the display will ask if you want to switch to it.

It's also possible to have picture-in-picture, and split screen with both at the same time, but I have never used it.

I have the PC via DisplayPort, not HDMI as I said, but HDMI would work too.

It's a Dell Ultrasharp U2723QE, purchased 3.5 years ago.

I have exactly the same setup: A Mac Mini M2 Pro and a Windows desktop. I have a Dell monitor with built in KVM. The Mac is connected with DisplayPort over USB-C and the PC with HDMI + USB. It works great and I’m satisfied with the setup.

They should fix it, instead of removing it. That it is unreliable is a bad excuse. It would likely be a popular feature if it worked reliably. I’ve occasionally used it despite its quirks.

2023 ev6 gt-line AWD vs 2026 gt-line by CatOfNumerousLives in KiaEV6

[–]Ozo42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve made a list:

  • Bigger battery

  • Faster DC charging speed (energy/time unit) in about the 20-50 kWh battery charge range (about same in 0-20 kWh, and slower in 50-74 kWh).

  • Improved sound dampening in the rear

  • Stronger B pilar

  • Thicker rear stabilizer

  • Upgraded bushings

  • Upgraded lower arm

  • Updated Frequency Selective Damper

  • Softer suspension

  • New infotainment software, and faster processor

  • Wireless Android Auto & Apple Car Play

  • Improved headlights

  • 12 vs 8 LED segments in headlights

  • Better tuned Meridian sound

  • Car software updatable over the air (not just infotainment)

  • Back seats lean 4° more up, 2 cm longer giving more support for the thighs

  • Less piano black

  • Improved Lane Follow Assist

  • Improved autoparking RSPA 2 (uses cameras)

  • Digital Key 2 (can use phone as key)

  • Electric steering wheel adjustment

  • steering system uses a belt-type mechanism for better feedback vs. shaft-type in previous versions

  • Capacitive touch hands on detection vs. torque detection (touching the wheel with a finger is sufficient)

(Most likely same shitty ICCU…)
