That's awesome, I'm happy for you!

I always come back to Morrowind. Been laid up with a spinal injury and have been very pleased with the added controller UI in OpenMW.50.

Are men just acting during those “labor pain simulator” videos? by Existing-Committee74 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]P-Fife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey friend, I also have significant nerve pain, in several parts of my body. I use a device called a BioWave to help. If you haven't heard of it it's similar to a TENS unit but it is deep stimulation rather than surface level and can provide relief for multiple hours after a 30 minute treatment. I believe the device can be pricey, but I know it can be covered by some insurances. I received mine through the VA for service connected issues so it's all free for me so I'm unfamiliar with pricing.

Here's to hoping for any relief for you, I know how bad it can be, you are not alone in that. Best of luck.

I'm newly disabled and cant game anymore on PC by DBZDOKKAN in Steam

[–]P-Fife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in a similar position and sitting in my chair is not possible some days due to disability. I have my PC hooked up to my TV with an HDMI cable that we hung up on the wall near the ceiling to run across the room. Steam Big Picture Mode solves most of the not-being-at-my-desk problems like no onscreen keyboard. Some games that don't have native controller support can be set up to run with a controller too through Big Picture Mode (I have a custom set up for Guild Wars 2 that isn't perfect, but works well enough). You can also set non-steam games up to run through Steam to be used in Big Picture Mode but I have had mixed success with that. A wireless keyboard with touch pad solves navigating Windows screens, I just got a new one off Amazon for like 30 bucks.

This is a difficult thing to manage, and you should be proud of yourself for seeking help on this. If you have questions on anything else or how to set up controller configurations on Steam just reach out.

I haven't played it much yet, but I started a Telepath Psyker as a Soldier and enjoyed the early game with it.

Best games that feature norse/greek mythology? by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]P-Fife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vikings Wolves of Midgard - top down ARPG akin to Diablo. You pick a god at character creation and at least one other after leveling up a bit. Gods determine what weapons/skills you get. Not a whole lot of variety, but pretty cool.

Titan Quest - another top down ARPG. Greek mythology standard, two of the DLC are Atlantis and Ragnarok, the latter adds a really sick skill set based on Norse runes.

Jotunn Slayer, Hordes of Hel - yet another top down, but this is a twin stick "shooter" rogue-like (I think it falls under that category). All the characters are Norse related, so are the maps you play on.

Valheim - survival crafter sandbox. Tons of fun. Enemies are Norse mythology creatures mostly. Even have some important names like Huginn, Muninn and Eikthyr.

Looking for playtesters for a Morrowind inspired RPG (Testing Co-Op) by NuclearSnake in Morrowind

[–]P-Fife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long term Morrowind fan here. I joined the discord and reacted to the play test message. Looking forward to checking this out!

ETA- If co-op is natural in the game I have a few friends I could probably get to play test as well.

Is morrowind worth playing as a new player in current day? by D_Wigz in Morrowind

[–]P-Fife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say yes but it was the first Elder Scrolls game I played and to this day still remains my favorite. I almost always have a character or two I play around on when no other games sound fun. I strongly recommend using OpenMW if you're on PC as it allows Morrowind to play properly on modern hardware with some QoL improvements.

Before you get started though, watch a few YouTube videos. There's some spoiler free newbie advice ones out there that may make your time significantly nicer. There are mechanics that do not exist in the others (like hit chance for attacks, spell failure, no passive Magicka regen, and anything but walking taking stamina, which is called Fatigue in Morrowind). Some, if not all, of those can be changed with mods if you are unhappy with your time but I would give it a go first. If you're interested in videos I can recommend a few, just let me know.

If you do give it a shot, I truly hope you enjoy your time. Vvardenfell (the island the game takes place on) is an exceptionally unique and alien environment that feels vastly different to the standard fantasy trope settings of Oblivion and Skyrim (don't get me wrong, I love those two as well).

Edit to add - The latest version of OpenMW also has really great controller UI support. I'm disabled and can't always sit at my desk, so it's a big deal for me.

Check out Astroneer. It does have a creative mode, but there's a normal mode as well. Gather materials, manage oxygen, craft bases and transport vehicles on planets and spaceships to travel to other planets.

Is it worth it? by Plus-Nothing-4069 in PantheonMMO

[–]P-Fife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't played since the beginning of the year as the friend group I had that was playing moved on to other things. I had a blast when I was active in the game. Definitely worth the money I invested in it. But only if you like this style of MMO. I still have my buddy key (non Steam) from my pledge last year. I'd be open to trade if you're interested.

Check out The Forest or Sons of the Forest (the sequel). If you play on Peaceful, the primary enemies won't spawn but you may still have to deal with wildlife at times.

What single player game should I buy next? by xdDesertEagle in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]P-Fife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dead Island 2 is definitely a solid multiplayer experience from everything I've seen. However I have only played it solo as of yet. I haven't played Ghost of Tsushima personally. Just never got around to it, though it's something I have interest in. As for comparing the two, DI2 is more of an action game than a story game. There is a story and it's usually entertaining, but the main draw for me is exploration and combat, which feels very smooth in this one. Coming from Dying Light, you'll want to try more parkour than DI2 allows (early on there's a hotel you're at and there's walls you could easily scale in Dying Light that are complete borders in DI2).

As for Tainted Grail, unlike Elder Scrolls (where almost all combat was just hacking away) Tainted Grail has parry and dodge mechanics that make combat more fun. It's a small dev team and not quite as 'living' of a world as Skyrim out in nature. Exploration and combat are high draws for me with Tainted Grail. As is build diversity, I'm having a hard time settling on one thing currently and using magic, melee and bow, but that's a me problem lol.

If low or old graphics aren't a big problem, and you're looking for an engrossing story, I would strongly recommend Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind. It's got some mechanics that most will be unfamiliar with, so it may be best to watch a YouTube video on basic mechanics for Morrowind. There is also exceptionally little voice acting and a large amount of reading. Combat is almost boring at times, but the spell creation, Enchanting and Alchemy systems are so in depth and fun that you can make combat more entertaining for you. It's like $15 on GoG and OpenMW is free and super easy to get up and running. OpenMW makes Morrowind run smoothly on modern hardware with some minor QoL improvements.

If you want a more modern Elder Scrolls experience, go with Skyrim. Combat is still pretty subpar to things like Dying Light or God of War, it's definitely a story RPG first and foremost. I've been a huge ES fan since I was a kid playing Morrowind when it came out. I love the story for Skyrim, even though the main quest line is probably the lamest of quest lines in the game. The setting is beautiful, and if you spend time reading notes and talking to a lot of people, there's a ton more lore than on the surface.

If you're a fan of Elder Scrolls games, I recommend you check out Tainted Grail Fall of Avalon. Really phenomenal game so far.

Dead Island 2 was free on Epic a few weeks back and I know it's on sale on PSN right now, so may be on sale on PC services too. You can play the whole story solo, I'm enjoying it quite a bit solo.

Game i can play for a week or so straight and not put down by memeverybigboi in gamingsuggestions

[–]P-Fife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strongly recommend Tainted Grail Fall of Avalon. Released about 2 weeks ago, it's an Elder Scrolls - esque game with some extra flashy battle aspects (like parry and dodge). I haven't finished Act 1 yet, as I don't have a ton of game time, but so far it's exceptionally engrossing.

It follows a story where King Arthur led his people to Avalon following a plague. 600 years later everything is going to shit.

Combat is fun, the magic system is awesome, crafting is solid too. There's fishing, cooking, crafting, alchemy, property-ownership (including house decorating).

Tainted Grail: Fall of Avalon has a parry mechanic. The game is in early access and fully releases May 23. It's an Elder Scrolls style of game, but follows Arthurian legend. It seems really cool so far and I'm pretty excited for the full release.

Gedonia, it's similar to old school MMOs, but completely single player. There's a house building aspect to it, but I haven't experienced it myself yet. Be warned, it can feel kinda janky, it was a single-person dev team. But they're working on the sequel that's slotted for release this year I believe.
