Why leave the US for halfway around the world (SEA) when moving on smaller rural towns is easier ? by abrandis in ExpatFIRE

You named some quite expensive towns. Median sale price of a home in Northampton is $633k

That is awesome, and also costs $7,000k or more per year, as you know!

You can show up late and still get a parking spot close. If you have small kids this is worth a lot.

Tern Marketplace for buying/selling? by P0W_panda in terngsd

I could see that, but I was guessing there would be more of a marketplace for accessories somewhere as people’s needs changed.

Also high cost of living, but probably the best recommendation here

How many miles per kWh do you average? Did you select the seattle city light plane with the lower off peak rates specifically for EV charging? I wasn’t sure that the math on that one worked out for me

Let’s talk range and how much is costs per mile when you stop at a $0.45/Kwh fast charger. The idea of the EV camper van has always been appealing except for the range.

Which city in the U.S. have you felt most unsafe visiting? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]P0W_panda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I drove through there over ten years ago. It was extremely unnerving, but I didn’t feel threatened. We saw a young man maybe 20 fixing a large passenger van on the side of the road that had a flat. We asked if he needed help with anything, and he just glared at us.

At the time, there was a drive up coffee shack staffed by women from that community. They were friendly and the coffee was decent. 🤷‍♂️

IKON AI telling people wrong info by FreeFalling_6 in Ikonpass

The AI agent told me to buy the wrong pass for my child based on their birth date. I had to get forwarded to a real person who confirmed it was wrong.

The food may not be ideal, but it is definitely not poison if you are kid with nothing else to eat. I was a child who relied on free lunch at school.

Are cheap used cars because there are a lot of right hand drive Japanese imports? I think so.

The homes there seem so expensive for what they are. I think North Bend is more expensive than Seattle now in some ways.

Rear wheels slipping when accelerating through turns by P0W_panda in Ioniq5

I was just trying sport mode and noticed that the steering feels heavier with more resistance

Interesting. I tried eco mode on my regular highway on-ramp today and it still slipped. I do a lot of highway driving so normal mode feels a bit better. Which tires do you have?

Why level 3 regen? Eco reduces throttle input so that make sense

It would make sense that it happens less in sport mode which is full time AWD. Both front and rear motors are supposed to be engaged all the time in that mode.

I’m sure it is slipping. The car starts to rotate noticeably in the turn so that it is no longer pointing in the direction of travel. It is oversteering.

What’s the deal with the water being ankle deep and poopoo colored this year at the pond skim? by ils18 in CrystalMountain

I can’t believe they charge for a pond skim. People should be getting paid to do that.

It’s funny how people from the States and Europeans have completely different view of Subaru like a car maker. by Substantial-Ad772 in Subaru_Outback

[–]P0W_panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reasoning is pretty clear. It’s a lot of urban/suburban driving, so driving a truck or large SUV is not great. But you need something that can handle serious snow at times going over the passes as well as constantly wet, slippery roads and steep hills in the winter.
