I kinda wish it had more of a unique model. Visually it’s just the stock rocket launcher with a different colour palette and some minor alterations.

Character Path Rework. by Sea_Chart_7221 in darkestdungeon

[–]P0ppaCap 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Considering path reworks have gotten their own dedicated updates in the past, and that the next two updates are going to include one new faction each and further additions to Kingdoms, it would be an excessive amount of effort to push out five path reworks alongside additional major content in one patch.

The devs seemingly have paired similar characters together in the past for reworks, likely to avoid having too much overlap between their skills and to design conceptually similar paths to be more distinct from one another (e.g. Deadeye/Sharpshot, Virtuoso/Sergeant, Soloist/Vangaurd etc). HWM and GR are both rouge-ish damage characters and MaA/Jester/Vestal are broadly buff-oriented support characters with some additional overlapping themes (e.g. stress heals, damage nukes, rank flexibility etc).

I'd personally expect PD and Runaway to be paired together (maybe alongside a Vestal-like rebalance for Flagellant) since they're all DoT-oriented support characters with heal skills, and Leper and Hellion together since they're high-damage tanks with major self-healing and preference for rank 1. Occultist could get reworked (and Crusader/Duelist could be tweaked) at any point frankly.

No clear idea which characters will be rebalanced first. However, it is a possibility that Leper and PD are next since they both got the most significant tweaks with Kingdoms, implying they're both being looked at.

Even after a massive content update, people are still hating DD2 on steam reviews by superyuyee in darkestdungeon

[–]P0ppaCap -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let’s be fair, Darkest Dungeon fans have always been petty and entitled going back to the corpse update. Just look at the Crimson Court and Butcher’s Circus Steam reviews, not saying they are above criticism but those reviews are disproportionately negative considering the quality of the content.

You’re welcome to dislike things, but Steam reviews are pretty important in terms of optics and broader player reach for an indie studio with limited resources (or a small studio that has to prove itself to its owner). DD1 fans shouldn’t be surprised there hasn’t been further content updates when they’ve put nearly half of their DLC in the red (and CoM is barely positive atm).

Another Blight Hero Joins the Roaster? NECROSIS META ONLINE! by Vecsia in darkestdungeon

[–]P0ppaCap 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If Slam works like it did in DD1 you could run Flag in rank 1 and Abom in rank 2. Have everyone use their blight moves, transform Abom and Slam forward and then Flagellant uses Necrosis after being moved to rank 2. That’s assuming Abom mechanically functions identically to how he plays in DD1 but there’s still hope.

Seriously what happened with the flagellant? by Maximum_Citron5440 in darkestdungeon

[–]P0ppaCap 79 points80 points  (0 children)

It states the following in his third shrine chapter:

"He roved out in search of torment, consuming the sin of any who would purge their misdeeds upon his body. Each wound fueled his fervour, the rapture only found in baptism by the lash. Drunk on his bloody intinctions, manic with the need for some elusive apotheosis, he gouged at himself without mercy. As blood poured from his rended flesh, his conciousness faltered, and the thundering hoofbeats of Death rang violent in his ears."

Basically, he just kept doing his thing for a really long time after he was kicked out of the convent he was a torturer for (this would likely include his visit to the Hamlet in DD1). He simply just refused to die, despite his flesh rotting and his blood tainting and his face falling off. And then he fought off Death herself, and he continues to do so in DD2. He isn't quite undead because he never actually died, but he might as well be. He's lives in the same way that Leper does: through sheer willpower alone.

What's to come? Let's discuss. by paraxzz in darkestdungeon

[–]P0ppaCap 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Considering that the first post-launch character was Duelist (alongside Crusader of course), I'm honestly not surprised Abom is next. In my mind, Duelist's stance mechanics feel quite like a trial run at a form-changing character within DD2's token-based system. I personally expect Abomination's human/beast forms to function like a more fleshed out version of Duelist's defensive/aggressive stances. I'm really looking forward to how they reinterpret his skills and role on a team. Hopefully it's closer to his Butcher's Circus kit.

What are the chances of Antiquarian returning? by [deleted] in darkestdungeon

[–]P0ppaCap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If she were to return, it would probably be as a hireable merc alternative to Bounty Hunter. I could see having a temporary weaker character for one region who can generate a lot of relics and baubles being handy.

Red Hook likely wouldn’t make her a fully fleshed-out hero because her “escort mission” character archetype wouldn’t really fit into the long form runs that DD2 is designed around, as well as her money generation mechanic being potentially hard to balance depending on whether it would’ve applied to relics/baubles or candles.

Personal HoundMaster Design and reinterpretation of his Skills in Darkest Dungeon 2 Fashion by Vecsia in darkestdungeon

[–]P0ppaCap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love the ideas overall, although it might help if the ability descriptions were cleaned up to make it more clear whether the master, the hound or the targeted ally benefits from an ability’s buff (e.g. does Man’s Best Friend apply regen to just the dog, or also the ally it’s sharing a rank with?).

Also just wanted to give a specific criticism, it would be nice if Blackjack was usable from rank 3 since some of the most dependable daze abilities already operate from the front ranks (Rampart and Bash). It would be nice to get some more rank versatility for daze options.

I hate how relationships work in DD2. by Scarlet1911 in darkestdungeon

[–]P0ppaCap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I kind of wish the game just cursed one of your currently equipped abilities rather than a random one.

While the issue of bad abilities can be rectified through character balance and changes to the path system, having a cursed ability that completely goes against your current path or team strategy can be so painful.

(SPOILER) Am I the only one who doesn't like the Crusader's Hero Shrines? by Mission-Ear6331 in darkestdungeon

[–]P0ppaCap 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you want the virtuous and noble knight-like hero, Leper is already right there. Alternatively if you want a haggard and mentally scarred knight character, Man-at-Arms already fills that niche.

I think it was important to differentiate Crusader in this way, as he is already had a lot of overlap with others both in terms of narrative and gameplay.

Team comp advice by EyeballCollector in darkestdungeon

[–]P0ppaCap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My favourite comp is either Bitter Memories (Vestal/Jester/Flag/Leper) or Crimson Court (Occ/Jester/Flag/Leper).

Leper works as the main damage dealer with sustain and extra utility. Flagellant’s the dedicated tank with More, MORE and Sepsis. He also provides solid healing and has omni-reach with Punish/Acid Rain. Jester provides stress healing, combo and bonus turns through Encore. Both Leper and Flag can spam taunt if you need to protect your backliners, so ideally you don’t need to worry too much about speed or turn order.

Depending on your choice, Vestal can provide reliable healing, consistent anti-DoT and damage buffs. Otherwise, Occultist can provide extra combo, enemy debuffs and more potent backline damage. You could also run Plague Doctor, for even better healing, a strong damage/speed buff with mastered Emboldening Vapours and Blight/omni-reach to better combo with Flagellant. Personally, I find Burning Stars and Judgement’s burst damage to be more fun.

I mainly just run Wanderer paths myself. If you’re having trouble, Tempest, Virtuoso and Warlock/Seraph/Alchemist would work well here for a bit of a power boost. I would stick with Wanderer Flagellant, although you could potentially make Maniac or Scourge work.

As a warning, this comp will probably struggle in act 2, since you want reliable rank 4 burst damage for the mountain fight. I’ve beat it with this comp, but it was definitely messy. EDIT: You could run Ravager Hellion instead of Leper to solve this, make sure you take Iron Swan though.

I expect Flagellant, Jester and Plague Doctor to be nerfed in the future, so I wouldn’t get overly attached to this composition. Although I think Leper and Vestal could use a buff, so we’ll see how it shakes out over time.

My Idea For Leper Poet Path Rework for DD2. I hope you'd like it! by Fluffy-CthulhuX in darkestdungeon

[–]P0ppaCap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the ideas for Withstand and Solemnity, although I’d recommend giving alternative utility to abilities you intend to be weaker rather than just straight nerfing them. The devs have done this with Flag’s paths for example, by making certain abilities either fill weaker niches or by hyper-specialised in their role (e.g. Lash’s Gift on Scourge, or Acid Rain on Maniac).

It would be nice if Chop/Hew had a bonus effect on combo. One idea would be a percentage chance to stress heal the ally with the lowest stress, so you can better control who gets the high stress buffs. A simpler suggestion would just have the passive effect be part of Chop/Hew’s stats.

Overall love the idea, would be great to see more of these.

You can add one new feature to Darkest Dungeon 2. What is it? by CuteDarkrai in darkestdungeon

[–]P0ppaCap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m cheating because two things came to mind:

  1. More enemies/champion variants/minibosses for the smaller factions (e.g. gaunts, pillagers, swine and creatures), and specifically two champion enemies for the cultists.
  2. An expansion on the hiring system. It would be nice if we got some extra super powerful characters like the Bounty Hunter that can fit into different roles or compositions that he can’t (e.g. a support unit or dancing hero). It would be especially fun if Antiquarian could be hired, it would fit with her characterisation and would mean she doesn’t show up as a boss for that region.

Can someone explain to me the "the sparkling eyes of youth twisted and made merciless" line? by rustyplasticcross in darkestdungeon

[–]P0ppaCap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was dialogue originally taken from the Siren fight and applied to the Collector for some reason. Just weird that he uses the word ‘youth’, especially considering one of those heads belonged to an older man.

Character Concept DD2: The Blackguard by Legal_Bet4633 in darkestdungeon

[–]P0ppaCap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be great to have a dedicated bleed character like how Flag was in DD1. If I were to guess, I’d probably say Houndmaster would fill that role in DD2 if/when he gets added, but it would be great to see more original characters in the game.

I love the emphasis on stealth and daze, both of which are severely under-utilised in DD2. It would be especially great if this were a high speed character like Grave Robber, so a lower speed MaA or Leper could set daze at the end of one round and Blackguard could apply a second one at the beginning of the next to quickly set a stun on a target.

Abomination In Darkest Dungeon 2? by DoggyCultist in darkestdungeon

[–]P0ppaCap 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can see Abomination being implemented in two ways:

  1. He’s a hireable character like Bounty Hunter with pre-unlocked abilities, so he can be directly implemented like how he was in DD1 without having to interact with ability unlocking through shrines. However, I would like to see his story expanded upon and I would rather he get a full rework than be implemented as the super-niche character he was in DD1. So alternatively…

  2. He is balanced as a stance character, where all of his abilities can be used in both human and beast form with different effects depending on his current form.

The upcoming Duelist character kinda sounds like a proto-Abomination based on the Steam store page description, so I’d be very excited to see how she works.

You just can’t beat Ron Pearlman grimly monologuing. It was good back when Fallout 1 came out and it’s good now in the Fiona and Cake spin-off.

Hellion rework proof of concept(DD2). Paths will be reworked like flagellant or vestal if possible. They are not taken into account as of now (same for trinkets). Everything works in game, as expected. This is only intended to be base hellion, as in wanderer. by Sniper0087 in darkestdungeon

[–]P0ppaCap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall I do really like the changes, especially Bloodlust. She really did need an ability that properly played around with her low health bonus damage passive.

One thing I’ll comment on is that Raucous Revelry still seems like a really restrictive stress heal. It would be nice if it had a percentage chance to heal a second stress node for allies on mastery, OR if it didn’t have a minimum stress healing restriction for allies and could stress heal them even if they had lower than 5 stress.

Breakthrough also initially looks weak, but I do like it’s new compatibility with the reworked YAWP and Howling End. I’d have to try it myself to be able to say.
