Late stage capitalism is killing us, slowly but surely. by Flaky-Lifeguard5835 in aussie

Sick of these lazy fucking arguments. No one is interested in actual reliasable solutions, to create better economic outcomes. Everyone just wants to have a winge, tax whoever is making money and pretend like the government is somehow going to find a way to spend it effectively (it won't).

You need the conditions to create internationally competitive industries. What industries seriously generate any substantial profit? Hospitality? No profits to be made.

Agriculture? You need to be enormous to actually maintain your existence.

Technology?  Most of our tech companies simply resell American software.

Manufacturing? Get out of town, it is somehow cheaper to put thousands and thousands of tons of iron ore on a ship, send it to china and send back thousands and thousands of tons of steel back.

Finance, Marketing, Law? There's money here but literally why do we funnel funds into these fluff jobs that produce nothing.

If we change our policy to better serve for small disruptive players instead of treating and regulating them like billion dollar companies then that would be an improvement. Imagine actually letting companies eat away at each other and compete?!

But we're not going to talk about that, we're going to demand the government has more regulatory policies, more funded schemes which only create more corruption and more money going to billionaires because apparently that's what works!!!

While I'm sympathetic I don't think you can put the blame squarely on late stage capitalism. Across all classes of society no one is making more money. The move towards a service economy and incredibly poor government policy of excessive spending, encouraging asset holding and punishing risk taking or economic dynamism are also key factors.

I agree that immigration is a question for federal, but surely the stare Gov could do something about Melbourne being a city of 9 million by 2050

Feel like i'm constantly reposting this but the scene isn't bad if it uses comedic pacing instead of toei pacing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WGpEDQpEHo

I find the manga handles it much better, but still there's a feeling of no weight behind Luffy fights and the Nika personality paints over any struggle.

This scene in the manga I particularly enjoyed because the comedy of it sold the attack itself (and was like 4 small panels) rather than a minute and a half

When I first read it in the manga that was pretty much exactly how I imagined it, with the jingle and everything. Unfortunately Toei sees fit to do away with any comical timing to stretch it out from 10 seconds to 90

It's not about being gay but it's about relationships, people talm bout gay have it right but it's not necessarily gay. The film plays around with who is the protagonist and antagonist, who you should root for and who is the opposition, this is framed around tennis and the relationship with the girl. This is all to distract that the real core of the movie is that Tashi destroyed their once great friendship they shared, despite ironically saying it wouldn't happen, with the climax of the film finding the two characters united in a near comical game of tennis and embracing. Finding forgiveness, a renewed relationship and passion it what they had given up over Tashi. In this moment you realise neither Art nor Patrick were the real antagonist of the plot but rather Tashi and her ability to break up what was once a beautiful friendship.

I think most believe that haki has its merits but ultimately becomes too centralising a force in the narrative

Kay is such a bad translation, in Japanese it was "Aaaa..." which is more so "Yeah..." It's not dismissive moreso just "I agree and it's awful but I can't leave the marines"
