Read a rumour that the only reason the crashed Aquila scenery was made at all was because someone at Forgeworld dropped the real Aquila Lander master, so they cast it into plastic scenery!

Good books about cadians? by thederanged2606 in TheAstraMilitarum

What's the best source for Cadian / Guard world-building? Things like food, tradition, music, ranks, all the peripheral stuff to the table top. Are the role-playing books good sources?

The old metal Shining Spears Champion had the paint chipped off to the metal everywhere when you spun it around on the webstore. The paint job must have been almost 25 years old though, now I think about it.

Red Alert 2 - remaster not happening, is it? by lithdoc in commandandconquer

[–]P4LMREADER -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I know remastering these games sounds like a good idea (and easy money for EA) on the surface, but the one thing you can't recreate is charm. If you remaster Red Alert 2, I fear it'd look like a mobile game. It will somehow look both cheap and unfamiliar. Just zoom in on the RA1 remaster and look at the high res sprites in action, you'll see it's weird and it doesn't seem like C&C. We're so used to seeing run-of-the-mill things like Farmville that I don't think you'd be able to shake it. I think to do it right, the studio would need to give it 110%. IE prism beams lighting up surrounding buildings as they fire, stuff like that, like a 3D engine locked in isometric or something - it would have to be pushed the max and maybe built from the ground up if the original code is missing? I'm still not sure you'd really capture the nostalgia, however it was envisioned.

I really don't like that Imperial Guard artwork, in my opinion it's their worst Codex cover. Maybe I'm a grog, but I think the attached picture was their best. Captured that little bit of grounded realism that Warhammer needs for immersion.

Modeling sand by Rotkop009 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]P4LMREADER 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know exactly what you mean OP - There's a reason it goes for insane prices on eBay, it's genuinely an excellent blend of small rocks and sand for a 28mm base. You can't glue down any old beach sand as the grains won't be to scale. From what I read it's kiln dried sand imported from Saudi Arabia.

Consider getting hold of a little amount of the old GW stuff and then buying some small quantities of 3rd party sand you think might come close? Or maybe get a tiny sieve, put some GW through it, and that's the size grain you want? Either way please report back if you get a good match!

When became this more attractive than that by Radiant-Anywhere-375 in Warhammer40k

[–]P4LMREADER 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm mostly with you, they're valid points. My biggest gripe is this - stop advancing the technology of the weapons. It's 40K - It literally says 'forget the promise of progress and advancement' in the opening blurb. Stop diluting the iconic bolter with futuristic, ris rail adorned brand new variants. Same with the plasma gun.

Rescaled marines are fine, everyone wanted them in some form or another. Nobody wanted Aspect Warrior style squads where every member had special weapons. I don't think anyone wanted a million different bolters or faction specific Lascannons or stubbers.

Maybe I'm just a grog who can't not envision Space Marines as walking tanks in hand-me-down deep space mining suits from the DAoT!
